Mortal Kombat - Trailer (In-Game Footage) {bring clean napkins}

Finally back to where it should be gameplay wise. I thought the 3d fighting and stupid weapons in the last gen games were uninspiring and dull. This looks like fun, my only complaint is not using photorealistic characters :P but I guess that wouldn't sell these days.
Looks amazing :D.

Fuck yes. That looks really awesome. That god they are going back to the full gore. It's also 2d? Wow, fucking nice.

Amazing the haters aren't around yet. They normally buzz around MK threads like Vultures. The trailer is just THAT good!

This looks amazing. I actually smiled while watching this. Looks like its going back to 2/3 style play, which is where they should have stayed at and expanded upon. Wondering if they're just going to act like the other games didn't happen (I want Liu Kang back).

Joystiq's viddler link for those who have Kotaku blocked at work (or just don't like Kotaku... like me.)

Just wish they dropped the stupid ass clunky animation because they think its some sort of thing that identifies Mortal Kombat.

Fuck sakes

More I watch it, more I like it.

So many classic characters and stages.

I am so READY to dial some fucking combos.

Looks cool. A little disappointed with the visual look of the game though. Not that the graphics are bad, just kind of...plain? Was hoping they'd use some sort of cool shaders to try and recapture the digitized look in 3D.

From the trailer, it definitely looks like a remake of MK2 with a tag feature...any chance this is DLC?

:lol Look at the guy in the background when the trailer hits 33 seconds left. Or for the youtube version it's the scene when subzero freezes the guy.

oh man, no crappy 3d, no crappy "vs" no crappy 3 styles + weapons. Hello my old friend, ima going to pick you up day 1 me thinks.

Yeah that looks like my only complain...game still has the generic look of recent 3D MK games. Gameplay looks good though.

This is the MK vs DC engine, down to the 'close combat' cutscenes except that this time, instead of scars and clothes being ripped, they show internal damages with the skeletons. The fighting engine was '2D'-ish too, just like in the trailer. As a mk fan, i am massively letdown by this. I was expecting a real redesign, not an engine repackage. Some of the animations (like the freeze) ones are just old recycled animations dating back from MK: Deception for fucks sake..

You guys should go rent out MK VS DC if you like this trailer. Its the same thing except for the gore.

Looks awesome, though the animation is a bit stiff right now - almost like they're mimicking MK2.

If they sort that out, I'm in.

Yay, looks good. It seems it's build on MK vs DC, but even though, I like what I see :D

I wonder where, timeline wise, the game will be set.

I think it's kind of the point. Hard to really do the same MK gameplay style with smoother animation, the whole system has always been a very stiff and rigid fighting style.

I'm pretty sure the showing of the skeletons was a fatality. Because of the camera angle.

Wow I didn't even notice that. Looks really good, and that extra ettention to detail already makes me feel optimistic about this title.

This is what I've been suggesting they do to bring this series back for years now! I'm pretty much sold. Like how Johnny Cage has a Rapper/Emo "musician" tattoo on his chest now lol.

It's completely MK2.

Right down to the stages.

Kind of a shame about the animation; but this is MK. It's not known for quality animation or depth of its fighting engine.

I agree with this. Looks like EB is still stuck :/

I don't know what to say.

Is... is this what it would feel like to be a Sonic fan and see a... a good Sonic game?

MK vs DC wasn't 2D at all. It was full 3D fighting. And they are using UE3, why would they change that? It worked just fine. I don't really get what you were expecting? We have 2D fighting, full gore, full lineup of classic MK characters, tag teams, and in my opinion a better art design at least on the levels than the last game.

I know the Vultures would be around.

First page: "OMG THIS LOOKS AWESOME ED BOON IS BACK, BABY! SOLD"
Second page: "OMG THIS IS A REHASH WHAT A LETDOWN".

Does Johnny Cage have a fucking chest tattoo? Is he all thugged out of something in this game? Anyone else see that?

Edit: He does! He has a fucking tattoo of "Johnny" on his chest! :lol :lol :lol

Nope, in the 'close-combat' mode, the camera would zoom and take dramatic angles when one guy would break the arm's of the other guy, and so so :(

video of close-combat mode:

edit:
PROOF - Fast forward to 00:20 in the youtube link - The Green Lanthern does the same exact deep punch animation to Lui Kang than Cage is doing here to subzero in the new trailer.

The angle is just slightly different (this is a trailer, after all), and you have the skeleton being shown instead.

I'm gonna go hug my mk1 machine tonight :( What a letdown
