Downsampling is when you render a game at a higher resolution than your monitor and have your GPU rescale it to the appropriate size. This thread breaks it down and has examples of the effect it can have on image quality.

I downsampled MKX from 1440p when I tried playing it a second time, but it gave me framerates in the 20s before crashing during a fatality.

edit: doing an x-ray completely crashed my PC. This is unplayable for me.

So this is done outside the game and not in the mkx settings?

Once you have it set up, it adds the higher resolutions to your available choices in the game's settings. So in MMX, I can just set the resolution to one of my custom ones. 1440p is usually my go-to setting, but my card is showing its age and I can't do it with a lot of newer releases. Apparently MKX is too much for it.

The thread I linked has a really good guide if you want to dabble in downsampling. It's well worth your time if you're playing games from last gen and have a decent GPU.

Played online last night- seemed ok. I'm not good enough to judge for sure.

Story mode- gameplay seemed fine, videos seemed to stutter a bit at times.

If I join an online room and back out of it I CTD every time.

I'm hoping that Online will be playable for me when I get home. This launch has been a mess from the data streaming pre-load to the performance issues.

I think the key is to go to Rooms and then just challenge people that are in the rooms. Don't wait for matchmaking or anything. I've never had a game fail or crash using this method. If I go directly to KOTH the game crashes instantly.

I literally just CTD when on the loading screen of an online fight I accepted from a room. I'm just not going to bother with online until they fix it.

Thank you. I have a 780...

I am downsampling from 1440p and running it all maxed settings. No crashing or performance issues. 60 fps on everything besides the known 30 fps locks. Going to see if I can downsample 4k just for fun next.

Edit: Just did it. Fps is now between 45-60 fps and isn't steady. Back to 1440p.

Have the game running on max and the frame rate is wank. My PC can handle anything but this is just disappointing. It's unstable at 1440 but at a 1080p with 10% particles then it's OK. What's going on? :(

Specs?

Intel Core i5 4670K
16GB
512GB Crucial MX 100 SSD
GTX 970

Just went back to 4K downsampling. It is very dependent on the stage. The stage on the docks is 25 FPS. The snow level was 45-60 depending on where you were on the stage. Will say it looks nice tho.

Edit for Footage: This is of 4K downsampling captured with Shadow Play. Frame rate counter is in top left corner. May need to download the video to get best quality.

Has anyone solved this 30fps issue for intros, x-rays, and fatalities?

Can't be solved, they're hard locked. The one that baffles me is the character select, why can't that be 60fps? It's so choppy on PC.

Anyone else having issues opening up the configuration option from steam?

Crashing? The launcher is a debug build and needs debug runtime libraries. They're not included with the normal redistributables, so if you want to use the launcher (it only lets you select the graphics device) you'll need to install Visual Studio Express 2012.

Sloppy, High Voltage. Very sloppy.

Apparently Steam downloaded a tiny little update for this around 7:30. Tried to play again. Exact same as always.

I've experienced some shoddy release date shenanigans on PC, but this is really the worst I've ever seen. It's my fault for buying a High Voltage game, though.

Hopefully next time NRS just asks their janitors if they can handle the PC port.

Been reading a bit on the steam boards (thinking about buying this cheap), can any AMD card users comment on this.

A see a number of people running things like R9 270/280/290's etc and they seem to be reporting that on the jungle stage and the temple stage (the one with the rain) that there is FPS drops (not x-ray/fatality drops, general drops to like 40ish FPS during fights) - anyone here running a R9 280x getting drops on the jungle stage?.

There is quite a few posts about AMD performance issues, and its really putting me off even if it is only on 1 or 2 stages.

Performance is pretty bad with my 7870 XT, Lots of frame rate drops even though GPU usage rarely hits 60%. My CPU is an i5 4690k which can run GTAV at all High settings and get a consistent 60fps.

Something I would like to know. The cut scenes on pc in story mode look like a video file that is much lower quality than the in game models. In game models look amazing. Are the consoles the same way or are those rendered in real time? My cut scenes are 60fps but the consoles cut scenes are 30 fps making me think those are real time.

But I have only seen a small YouTube clip and it was low quality making it hard to tell.

I got an HD7950 and I haven't run in any specific issues.

Of course naturally if I try to record footage to prove this my performance WILL drop due to the extra process and ram demand of recording live while playing the game.

I wish there was a way I could help you.

I finally managed to play some online, played about 10 games vs the same dude from the UK, the delay was noticeable but playable I guess. I CTD the second I left the room though, as always.

Do the ping bars load for you guys? Either they stay all grey, or they just constantly spin trying to update. I've even forwarded all the ports the game uses with no luck.

Everything is real time on PC and consoles.

280 user. Yeah, it got to the point where I had to think of lowering my settings. Very disappointed.

Guys I really can't make it full screen when choosing a resolution lower than native :( Massive black bars / frame stuck. I can't wait for my new PC to arrive.

Well people were whining about the game being cross gen, but as the delay indicate the game is next gen. Alternatively, danger, danger, High Voltage.

Looks like if I stick to the training stage I can have a solid framerate and even up the graphics with no hickups, which is pretty cool. Would prefer more stage variety but at least I can play with my friends now on it.

I mean the black box :0 I don't recall seeing any option for that. Will check later today.

I might be wrong. I'm now having the problem as well and have no idea how I fixed it before.

Piece of shit port. My laptop can handle MGS5 with PS4 settings at solid 720p60 but struggles to reach 60fps on this game's lowest setting at 800*600.

Specs: i7 2760qm @3.4ghz, gtx 560m 1.5gb gddr5, 8gb ram

(And yes it's using the dGPU)

I'm terrified of it performing badly on my Alienware Alpha i7 when I finally get it this month :( Since I won't be buying a PS4 soon, I'd have to settle for the... PS3 version, also made by HVS, lol.

Edit: I'm watching videos of MKX running just fine on the i3 model, let's hope there are no issues on the i7 for whatever ridiculous reason, lol.

After restarting my laptop it now covers the whole screen instead of boxed when res is set at 1366x768. Try that, RM8.

Despite my first go around last night, I tried the game again tonight. The game ran very, very well tonight.

Now, I'm going to guess that something went painfully wrong last night when I tried to play because when I tried to play, the game was experiencing server issues. Soooo, maybe my performance woes were somehow tied to the game trying to constantly reconnect to overloaded servers? Not sure.

All I know is that there were no server issues tonight and the game performed as expected at almost all times (there were still a few hiccups here and there but nothing major).

Damn, that sucks :(

Yeah, I know it's the game but I tried older drivers and it's the same, now I'm redownloading it just to tick that off the list. I hope they patch it today.

I finally got it working by turning off most in-game graphics settings and just forcing them through NCP. Now it looks significantly better than it did maxed out, and it's not crashing.

What I turned off: FXAA, Bloom, Motion Blur, AF. Left Shadows on very high, DoF on, and Texture Quality to high.

What I'm forcing: 16xAF, 8xCSAA, 4xMSAA, Triple Buffering, Vsync, and AO set to quality.

Everything but Sky Temple runs perfectly. That stage is just fucked for some reason.

Everything set at max except FXAA, 1080p, on a 4770k and gtx 770.

In game, it runs at a perfect 60 (59?) fps EXCEPT for the prefight intros, where it stutters a bit. Anyone else having this issue? Seems weird that it would stutter there and run butter smooth during the game.

Anyone else having issues opening up the configuration option from steam?

nothing happens. I configure the game within the game.

Titan X @4k maxed 60fps
Game looks really nice outside of 30fps transitions

Online seems to be working ok

So far so good, hopefully there is some lasting online community

Cutscenes like Pre-fight intros and Fatalities are locked at 30 fps on Console and PC. Basically that stutter is your game dropping the frame rate by half just for those sequence to play out.

It's not exactly a smooth transition unfortunately. Maybe someone can find a way to mod it and unlock for PC. I know MK9 had framerate mods.

Of course I'd prefer if fan outcry was big enough that officially it was done by patch and not having the fan base to fix it ourselves.

question, does anyone else have a gtx 780/ i7 4770k config? if so, how does your game run?

edit: I contacted HVS and here's what they sent me:

Runs like complete ass on my laptop

i7-3630QM 2.4Ghz, 8GB DDR3, GeForce GT750M 2GB, Crucial M500 240GB SSD, Seagate 1TB SSHD, Seagate 1TB HDD, 14" HD display (16:9 widescreen) (1366x768), Windows 10

Not sure if it's Windows 10 or what, many other as nice or nicer games run fine with high settings on this thing but this is stutter city. However I noticed on the 30fps parts it runs silky smooth so pretty sure it's a vsync issue. I heard if you force on adaptive vsync in the nvidia control panel it may fix it but I can't as that's broken in Windows 10 ugh. 2nd gaming related thing I've discovered this week broken in Win10, the other is Blops 2, think I might restore to 8.1 tonight. I got this game on PS4 though and playing it there and loving it, finished the story mode last night.

For some reason I cannot launch this thing from Steam. I have to use the desktop shortcut. Other than that still running smoothly.

Yeah, during all fight intro the game seems to freeze very briefly for the second second (heh). Apart from that the rest of the intro plays out smoothly, if only at 30fps

Straight up doesn't work for me. I click configuration and nothing happens.

Same over here.

As I said earlier, it won't work unless you have Visual Studio 2012 installed. HVS have been rather incompetent and have included a debug executable with the game. It requires the debug runtime libraries msvcr110d.dll and msvcp110d.dll. Those are not included in the regular redistributables.
