Mortal Kombat X PC Performance Thread

Was stuttering like shit, but once I upgraded to 15.4 Beta Drivers, it's a bit smoother, but I still get this really bad stutter during the fight intros. I also have set bloom to off along with DoF, with textures to medium.

So the patch made things worse?

Unless you think Dead Woods looks better now

I would say so. What a nightmare.

Core i5-2500K @ 3.3Ghz
8 GB of RAM
2 GB Radeon 6970 with 15.4 beta drivers
Installed on an SSD

What I'm reporting isn't much different from what others have experienced overall. Ambient Occlusion and particle density seem to be the main source of performance hits, so I've turned them off. The game runs at a steady 60fps where it can for the most part in 1080p, except in the jungle stage, Dead Woods, Sky Temple and the Krypt of all things. The stages mentioned are playable, albeit a bit choppy with framerates around 30fps.

I'm holding out for a card with full DX12 support, but it sure would be nice to have an existing card that can pull 60fps with ease...

Still having issues with the memory leak after the latest patch. The game starts off at around 600mb and continually climbs until it hits an unplayable state (usually at around 5000mb). With motion blur and DOF enabled this happens within minutes regardless of the game mode. Removing a core does address the issue somewhat, but it leads to CTD at random when playing the towers.

Setup:
Win10 10049
349.90 beta driver
GTX660ti unlocked
i7 4790k @4.6ghz

Looks like I finally got a bit of luck. Dead Woods isn't messed up for me. Sky Temple is still awful, though. Having a really good run on a tower and having it end with a Sky Temple fight is really frustrating.

I was also finally able to open up the controller options and turn off release check. Only had one crash, and it was while loading a stage (Dead Woods).

After putting in 8 hours and finishing the story, the later levels (Woods, Sky, etc) are SO BAD. My god. I can't seem to understand how they fucked up this bad? The game barely plays well at all.

I'm holding off for a fix for Sky Temple (and hopefully the black crush) before I start the story. Kinda sucks, since I don't have anyone on PC to play with. I've just been doing towers and single matches with D'Vorah.

I could play randoms online, but my experience with the MK community in 9 was terrible. I fully expect people to pick Dead Woods and Sky Temple just to be dicks.

What do you mean bad? the framerate? what are your specs?

The framerate drops in Sky and a few others are extremely noticeable and can easily hit 10 frames, then jump back up, while I can get 60fps easily in most other levels. The forest level is fucked (Common issue) and the cutscenes in story mode are buggy as shit.

game runs like utter shit on my rig even on the lowest settings at 720p. for reference I can play alien isolation on ultra at 1080p60fps. thanks HV!

Can you link to that post so I can contact them.

EDIT: Found it, I urge everyone to do as he asks and PM him with all your issues in as much detail as possible: https://www.facebook.com/HighVoltageSoftware/posts/924428830911530

Yep. PM'ed him as well with all kinds of photos and information.

Same, just sent him this message:

Hello,

You said you wanted people to PM you with any issues the PC version of MKX currently has, so here goes:

. The game is still crashing to desktop while online, offline is now perfect but online still crashes fairly often, especially in King of the Hill mode where crashing is very, very common so you should be able to reproduce it.

. The ping bars don't refresh/update while in rooms, they just constantly spin so you can't challenge someone close to you, which leads to laggy matches.

. Sometimes when you're challenged in a room you can't accept or decline, nothing happens when you press the buttons.

. When you hit the chat button the letter wheel no longer pops up, so unless you're near a keyboard you can't type in game, this used to work but was broken a patch or two ago, this is especially bad for those of us who play on the TV via Big Picture.

. Matchmaking is taking a very long time to find games, it used to work much better but now you get stuck in a "looking for opponent" "joining match" loop, with up to 5 minutes wait per match.

. "Lobby no longer available" happens very often at the start of a match.

. We still don't have patch 1.02, which included the free Klassic Sub Zero skin.

. While this hasn't happened to me lots of people on Reddit have had their save data corrupted and progress wiped when crashing to desktop.

. The Krypt levers are bugged, if you messed up the puzzle and leave the Krypt when you come back the levers are still down so you can't progress further.

. There's a memory leak, lots of people have reported it, and I've even ran out of memory myself while playing, with 8GB of physical RAM and a 4GB page file, I haven't had the issue since increasing to an 8GB page file, but the memory usage definitely creeps up and up the longer you play.

PS: Performance wise I'm getting 60fps rock solid everywhere, apart from the stuff that's locked at 30fps (yuck, BTW!).

If you need any more information feel free to ask, I really want these issues fixed ASAP. I have included various files and photos that may be helpful, don't forget to check them out.
I also included MSInfo, DXDiag, and screenshots of the CTD errors which you can't see.

They messaged me back!!!! They said a patch is in test at this moment and should be released tomorrow fixing most of my concerns addressed in message (Severe level lag, the terrible pixelation in the Dead Woods, the poor frames in later cutscenes and the crazy inconsistency in framerate altogether). I am excited. :D

Great news, I hope the KOTH crash to desktop issue is fixed so I can play it.

Edit: They replied to me as well, he's passing it on to the devs.

Currently in the process of doing a fresh install of windows.

Couldn't play any of the games I used to play without having a major crash after MKX started crashing my PC.

Tried to do system restore to before I installed and now part of windows is missing or some shit and I just get constant BSOD before the log in.

Never had a game fuck my shit up this bad before.

This has me super worried. I got the game super cheap and thought "why not" but of course I didn't think to check the PC performance thread.

Xeon E3 1231v3
8GB DDR3 RAM
MSI GTX 970

Finished story mode yesterday, tried a few towers, played through all the game on 1440p, no problems at all. No graphics glitches, no framerate drop, no CTDs.

Guess I'm just lucky..?

Alright that was last night... this time it's crashing all over the place again...
Anybody running it on a pretty decent PC maxed out without problems?

For me, after further testing it seem like my vga OC is the cause of problem. Gtx970 200/200 core/mem @ 110%power usage, it is causing frequent TDR. After resetting to default it's ok...
Funny because it is a fine tuned/downclocked OC preset because Dragon Age Inquisition also had problems, but it is pretty stable ever since the end of January.

Have you played online KOTH? That's usually where I crash to desktop.

Anyone else having issues with alt-tabbing out in fullscreen mode? I can tab out (and it will just stay on the screen but I can move mouse about), but coming back in is dodgy. Perhaps due to second screen.. I can tab back in easier by pressing win+d to go to desktop then clicking the app.

Performance drops too much in window mode.

Default settings, 780ti, 4770K (4.4)

Loading times are lovely fast.

I went ahead and bought it based on the news that a new patch was coming. Really hope it drops today like they said it would...

Well, we'll find out how legit they are with their words. I'm REALLY hoping they don't fuck this up, but they don't have a good track record currently, so we'll see...

Edit: Here's the exact message they sent me:

My netcode seems messed up after the latest patch. The day before was fine though. :\

I can't even get online ATM, WBplay is down AGAIN, that shit goes down literally every day.

Yeah, it's pretty horrendous. I don't have that issue but my issue is finding matches takes WAAAAY longer and they're usually laggy as hell.

You mean the patch from 4/19?

Correct! On launch day, the online was perfectly fine with very few issues, but ever since the 15 gig patch, it's been laggy for me.

Anyone having problems with consistency in the game?(tested in training mode) The game will start off at 60f, but will quickly drop to 55-57f then go back up to 60f, then down to 59, then 52, then back to 60, etc, etc.

my specs:

AMD FX-8320
Radeon R9 270X
8gb RAM

To compare my laptop can run it consistently at 60(besides that temple level with all the rain) and it has the following specs:

i7-4710MQ
Geforce GTX 860M
8gb RAM

Both at max settings 1920x1080

Apparently they've dropped a small patch to help with online stability, I'm in bed so I can't check.

Holy shit. Did this happen to anyone else?

Just got this game but it doesn't seem to have an SLI profile!?!?!

Sigh... and the combat seems so.... weird and not fluid at all.

Same, I had one crash to desktop, before the first patch and ever since then, it's been as smooth as silk. I don't even bother with my Ps4 version anymore, it's a 90 dollar coaster.

If you crashed during gaming due to a voltage spike (to the SSD etc.), it can corrupt the Windows install.

I've learned the hard way; back your shit up on a daily basis so you can get back up and running in < 20 mins.

A fresh install is always the last resort (which is fine), but it's a major hassle having to install all the programs, games, etc. etc. and tweaking the settings just right after a fresh install every time.

Acronis FTW!
