Mortal Kombat X PC Performance Thread

I spoke with an Nvidia rep about the Nvidia driver CTD and he told me they have one bug on file with the devs that's Windows 7 specific. He asked for screenshots of my in-game video settings (both pages) and my OS.

If you want to send Nvidia your information you can do so here: driverfeedback@nvidia.com

Include as much information as possible regarding the crash, what triggers it etc (KOTH for me). Attaching your DXDiag will help as well.

I already have the PS4 version, so I'm covered, but I checked out the PC version and it is stutter city on certain stages (like the Sky Temple). I could only get it stop stuttering at 800x600 with all settings on low/off. On the Kove I got it running pretty well at medium setings on 1600x900.

I think they should patch in the graphics models & effects (lighting, shaders) from the 360/PS3 versions as options. My 2010 era PC (GTX 470) can run MK9/Injustice at 1080p at 60FPS at close to the highest settings. So, assuming they can get this game running on the 360/PS3, they theoretically bring over those settings to PC, and then most people would be able to run the game at a solid 60FPS at 1080p.

Great performance, if it wasn't for the whopping great memory leak that causes a crash around 40 minutes in.

Guys, check your system memory. Mine steadily hiked from 2Gb to 14.5 Gb with no discernable loss of performance until black screen and a boot back to desktop. They better fix this quick.

I got my Alienware Alpha last night. MKX works flawlessly, I'm not having performance issues at all and MK10.EXE does end when I exit to Windows! (which were the only problems I had with my toaster) :P I'm now happy with my purchase. I hope it soon works fine for everyone.

What settings are you using? It's choppy as hell on my i7 Alpha.

During fights, the game is mostly fine. If I pause it, though, coming back into the game is rough as hell.

Yup, been an ongoing issue for me. It definitely has forced to me memorize all the combos and fatalities so I don't keep going to the menu and ruining the game's performance :P

Hmmm... Odd, precisely during my short test, I paused the game to check a fatality sequence and I didn't notice anything afterwards. Have you guys tried lowering the settings? Maybe the automatic settings option gave me super low settings, lol. It's really weird since in theory, it should run the same on my Alpha (i7) as it does on Xer0's.

BTW I hadn't read about that specific issue, I'd advice letting High Voltage Software know so they eventually get to it. Apparently you can contact them on Facebook and tell them your specific problems.

So I'm running this on a Gtx 670 and an i5-750, with 8gb of RAM and installed on a SSD. All told, he looks fantastic and performs pretty well. Except, the framerate dives sometimes during battles (and cut-scenes, but that's a known issue.) I would think it was due to particle effects, but I can do the same move one time and it chops, but again and it runs smoothly.

I'm not sure what to turn down to make it smooth in the most optimal way, and Geforce Experience just recommends I crank it (with FXAA -- eeeew). Suggestions?

After a 3 day marathon where I hit every fucking hurdle along the way, my PC is finally back up and running again.

I'm missing everything I had on my C drive and I still need to install a few programs and drivers, but I have my life back at least.

Question is, do I bother trying to run this piece of shit or do I just delete it and never look back?

I was using a 670 4GB when I was posting in here last week, although I use an i5-3570k.

I managed to get everything running smoothly (minus Sky Temple) but disabling most of the in-game graphics settings and using MSAA, SSAO, and AF through Nvidia Control Panel. You should be able to push it pretty hard and still maintain 60 fps at 1080p. I left texture and shadow quality at high, but turned off AA, AF, bloom, motion blur, and ambient occlusion in the in-game settings. I left DoF on because I think it's subtle enough to not be an issue. I turned particle density down to 60.

I forgot exactly how much AA I forced through NCP, but it was quite a lot. Just fiddle around with it and you'll find the right spot for your PC.

i7 980x + GTX 970, aside from a small hitch before the character intros the game runs pretty well for me. I'm sticking with 1600p, seems to give me the best results on all the stages. I swear the controller presets do not function correctly though, they are very odd, especially when trying to use them with 2 players. They just don't seem to save.

Patch dropped

We are posting a new patch that will address the following:
• Fixed graphics corruption on Dead Woods level for AMD video cards
• Fixed inconsistent Koin awards when completing towers
• Fixed Display setting not saving correctly
• Fixed Controller Preset menu to prevent a reset to Custom1 control scheme
• Fixed issues with the display of Steam names in leaderboard entries and in chat rooms

Additionally, the following settings are recommended to assist in optimizing your experience:
• Set your monitor refresh rate to 60 or 59.95 hz.
The game is framelocked at 60hz for an optimal experience.
• Enable Adaptive V-Sync, if your driver supports it.
Even at 59.95, you can have a ‘chasing v-sync’ cascade effect. Adaptive V-Sync mitigates it heavily.
• Run the game in fullscreen mode.

Well that's a sad looking patch. None of the major issues were fixed. If it took them nearly a week to do that I doubt the game will ever be fixed.

Exactly, like what patch is this? Address the real issues.

5 lines, that's what took them a week. I'm gutted, I've been waiting all week for this patch and it's just shit. Online will still crash to desktop, ping bars still won't show and stats will keep on resetting.

They messaged me back!!!! They said a patch is in test at this moment and should be released tomorrow fixing most of my concerns addressed in message (Severe level lag, the terrible pixelation in the Dead Woods, the poor frames in later cutscenes and the crazy inconsistency in framerate altogether). I am excited. :D

Guess "fixing most of your concerns" was they fixed Dead Woods not being a pixely mess.

Going to be honest, I'm thrilled that this patch fixed the controller preset issue. I played this game locally with a friend, and our controls kept switching to preset one every so often. We would need to change our controls every few matches or so.

This is a welcome change!

All this patch did for me was add a splash screen that makes the game take longer to start. I'm also getting driver crashes more frequently than before.

I'm using a 4K/60 TV, 4K/60 receiver, HDMI 2.0 capable cable, and the resolution keeps resetting itself to 1080p every time I start the game. So, I'm afraid that's not entirely fixed. Hate to have to go into "PC Options" and select my native 2160p resolution every time I wish to play the game.

In any case, thank you for sharing the patch details with us. :-)

No, it's locked at 60fps for balance reasons.

thanks! Btw, anyone noticing that at 4k the game uses more than 8gb of vram?

Not working for me either, resets itself to 1080p.

Joined EU West room, so should get smooth games right? 10 different people, 10 totally unplayable games due to massive lag.

There are specific ways around balancing a game for different framerates ( (just double all the frame windows for someone with 120fps). It is a shame there is no HFR option.
In theory, you can use a higher refresh rate and still get some input lag reduction benefits.

I'd wager we could probably fix it ourselves if we had access to the encrypted, default configuration file under "\...\Steam\steamapps\common\MK10\Config".

Also, I hadn't noticed it used all that VRAM before you mentioned it. I thought 4K was possible on 4GB 980s. Perhaps it scales depending on how much VRAM is available?

As you stated it probably uses the max it can assuming there is enough vram even though i dont see why it´s using so much since it´s a fighting game.

What's up with the NEW splash screen they added that distort 3 minutes until the game launches, boy I tell ya HVS needs to be shut down.

So no improved performance.... maybe thats wishful thinking, but I can't stand the damn stutter in character select and character intros.

Actually I tried the update and performance is much better, no more stutter in character select and character intros performance is much better.

I have no hopes of this ever actually being good.

I was trying to hold off on playing the story until they fix the black crush, but I might as well just go ahead and do it. It isn't going to be fixed.

The thing is the game is great, which is what hurts so much. I want to play it, and if it worked properly I would be hooked. After about 50 unplayable matches tonight I got a playable one, even though I lost 1 - 5 it was a lot of fun because it wasn't laggy with button delay. Every game should be like that, give us an option to always prefer connection for matchmaking, make the ping bars work and tweak the netcode and that dream could be reality.

Do you mean the coalesced file? I've changed every parameter and nothing is fixed.

Yes, that's the one. I suppose you've decrypted it? I had hope that a simple thing like the game remembering resolution settings could be fixed through tweaking that file. I guess not, then. Thanks for the feedback, MaLDo!

I've started playing the story (on chapter 3 now) and daaaaaaaaaamn that black crush is bad. Like, did they not notice it when they were doing this version?

So far, for me at least, performance is fine. At least I think it's fine. It feels ok. Apart from some stages starting off really low FPS it levels out after a few seconds and is fine for the entire match.

Running Windows 7, GTX780 3GB, 16GB RAM, i5 4670K 3.4GHz and playing at 1080p everything on max.

EDIT: this is cool too http://www.pcgamer.com/mortal-kombat-x-non-playable-characters-are-now-playable-on-pc/ playing as the NPC characters you can't play as that will very likely be sold as DLC.

Apparently the latest patch made it so you have to be in game and alt-tab out to fiddle with the files so it looks like the patch was less about fixing the game and more about stopping players from playing as characters that will be sold later on.

Turns out the Injustice_AES tool can be used to decpyt the Coalesced.ini
**big thanks to taco on steam forums for pointing this out

Aren't those just videos? I doubt that'll ever be fixed.

If you look the video files from the PC version outside of the game, they're actually fine, they have no black crush. It's literally an issue with the game itself, i.e. an issue with High Voltage.

Also, in case anyone wants to know, they're 720p Bink garbage, including the QTE moments, nothing is real-time, unlike what Digital Foundry says.

so the QTEs are videos too? huh. Figured it would be a bit of a mish to do that since you can screw up the QTEs and the game reacts to you botching those QTEs.

WTF this shit is broken as hell online. First 4 online matches of mkx: The 2 I lost the game crashed. The one time I won everything was fine. The other time I was wiping the floor with a dude, he quit, and the game hung.

The lesson? Lose less and win in a less convincing fashion. Fucking broken ass game.
