Which console games offer the greatest amount of player input. These are the things I'm referring to:

-Custom character names
-Custom character faces/hair color
-Custom size and shape
-Custom character apparel
-Build/decorate a house
-Management simulation
-Vehicle customization
-Create and edit your own movies, music, and photos

etc.

These are qualities that I tend to enjoy in a game. I loved Dark Cloud 2 for this very reason. As you rebuild the areas, you can place things with varying degrees of freedom and landscape the area at your discretion. Animal Crossing too with its interior decorating, custom patterns, custom sound tunes, etc.. Obviously many sports games have a custom character feature now, so I left those off.

What are your picks? Can you think of any that most people don't consider?

I know you said non-sports, but I have to give a nod to Tiger Woods 2005. EA's Gameface II editor is rather impressive. You can recreate almost any face very convincingly. I imagine the editor in 2006 is just as good or better.

Def Jaf: Fight For NY had some cool customization for a fighting game: jewelry, facial hair, hair styles, shoes, glasses, hats (which you could tilt or adjust in numerous ways), lots of clothing (which you could also wear in various styles). If it had a better create-a-character mode when picking out your mug shot, it'd probably rank near the very top.

I don't play PC, but I respect it. I have that PS2 though.

Animal Crossing, decorating your house and trying to get a high score is fun, but it's more fun what you can do to someone else's village. With just one trip, I placed portraits of myself all over the village, put all of my clothes up for display which the animals now wear (one being a shirt with my friends name with a red cirlce and slash over it), change some of the animals sayings to insults, and sent a few insulting letters that the villagers enthusiastically read to him when he is playing :lol
