My vote goes to the Gorilla Physical Challenge in Double Dare for the NES. That song makes me what to give up on life and slit my wrists. What's your vote?

(Sorry, vgmusic doesn't have a sample)

-That track in xenogears when fei has destroyed his town village.
-That track when you are fighting dario and miguel in chrono cross
-That track in final fantasy 9 when zidane is sitting in his throne and is all alone, he doesn't have friends at that moment
-That track in silent hill 2 when james has just watched the videotape at the hotel
-That track in the original metal gear solid when that girl in the snowfield dies.

Last 5 minutes of the third day in Majora's Mask (don't remember the name of the track).

The songs name is 'An End' i have the mp3 for it.... and yeah it is depressing, hell most of the day 3 songs are depressing in Majora's Mask.

VGMusic has a midi of it (though its pretty bad) called Last Day 1.4

Gee why don't you just hog the entire thread :lol

Anyway... everything at the end of Xenosaga Episode III. "Hepatica" in particular. Holy hell what a beautiful but depressing track.

Probably the MGS3 ending music.
Both the orchestral music during the ending movie and the song during the credits.

MGS3 ending, Way to Fall by Starsailor

Also, that one Xenogears track, it was either called Sky or Air.

Oh yeah, the track in Silent Hill where Lisa is turning and Harry is holding the door shut.

"You're my Inspiration" from Elite Beat Agents.
*sniff*

EDIT: HAHAHAHAHA I'm the only one in this thread with a tag! HUAHUAHUA I feel so powerful!

Yes, I'm Lonely - Vincent Gallo

That's the ending theme to Phantom Dust. The game's story was a bit meh, but the revelation at the conclusion and the ending itself was depressing as hell. It's one of the few games that have managed to emotionally affect me.

Being the last living person on Earth, and not even a real person at that, would indeed suck.

i find the 'underwater frigate reactor core' music from metroid prime to be pretty depressing. or melancholy.

moon music from ducktales

not depressing maybe, but it's kind of a sad song

Room of Angel. Silent Hill 4.

Seriously, no other song comes close.

Yeah, I thought of the exact same song as soon as I saw the topic.

I mean, not only the song itself is depressing but there's the lyrics as well:

Here's a lullaby to close your eyes good-bye
it was always you that I despised

Only 2 songs that I can think of right now, and they're both from Majora's Mask.

Oath to Order and Song of Healing, and I don't even particularly know why.

Yeah Oath to Order was depressing but also jaw dropping.

Angel's Thanatos from Silent Hill 2.
Mainly because it's from the ending where James commits suicide.

"Main theme of Final Fantasy VII when its the piano version."

Spot on.

Also the opening song in Silent Hill 2 when James is in the bathroom should get honorable mention.

id probably go for the halo 2 menu music or the music at the start of the level called Uprising (the 2nd last arbiter lvl). very emotional stuff

A lot of the Silent Hill songs such as Hometown are good contenders. I also second the People Seized with Life nomination from Chrono Cross. Tales of Phantasia also has a pretty depressing song, I believe it's called Desolation, but I could be mistaken as I can't check right now.

The music in halo 2 when your fighting the flood....god I hated that song and that song made me want to get the hell out of that flood infested piece of shit fast.

Phantom Dust is just plain depressing. The title screen music... gah.. would have cut my wrist if it wernt for custom soundtracks

People already mentioned Majora´s Mask song, but I just had to do it again. Still, very beautifull imo.

From Chrono Trigger there´s 2 of them: When your party dies( I´ve had my party killed many times just to hear it) and Balthasar´s Song (the guy that built the ship).
Both very sad, but beautiful songs.

"You're My Inspiration" from EBA was rough.
Especially when I goof around the second section and the cake is blown right into the girl's face.

Xenogears & Chrono Cross- Pretty much the entire OSTs are depressing.

I know it's not the music that's depressing on it's own, but i find A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess' ending themes saddening and depressing purely cause it's all ending :(

Grand Theft Auto III :)

HeÂ’s on the level if heÂ’s inclined.
The son of a devil, he wants mine and more.
Ooh, heÂ’s a high, high climber.
Not just a clinging vine.
He made the grade, he made his marks, senor,
And guess whoÂ’s keeping score?

Rush rush, got the yeyo?
Buzz buzz, gimme yeyo.
Rush rush, got the yeyo?
Uh oh.
Yo yo, no no yeyo.
Uh oh.

HeÂ’s a real speed demon.
HeÂ’s one of a kind.
Watching, waiting, winking over his shoulder.
HeÂ’s running out of time.

Rush rush to the yeyo.
Buzz buzz, gimme yeyo.
Uh oh.
Yo yo, no no yeyo.
Go go.
Rush rush to the yeyo.

Never, never take a chance before you know heÂ’s in a hurry.
Better better make your mind up boy, heÂ’s faster, heÂ’s faster, heÂ’s faster, heÂ’s faster.

Rush rush, gimme yeyo.
Buzz buzz buzz, gimme yeyo.
Uh oh.
No no, gimme yeyo.
Yo yo, dame yeyo.
Uh oh.

Rush rush, gimme yeyo.
Buzz buzz buzz, gimme yeyo.
Uh oh.
No no, gimme yeyo.
Yo yo, dame yeyo.
Uh oh.

HeÂ’s a real speed demon.
HeÂ’s one of a kind.
Watching, waiting, winking over his shoulder.
HeÂ’s running out of time, time, time, time.

The music during the video that plays when the title screen is left idle on Ninja Gaiden (NES) is kind of depressing. You see Ryu's dad die or something like that, iirc.

The song that plays when the main character is kicked out of his village in the Secret of Mana. That song and the scene are depressing.
