Most difficult to obtain weapons in video games.

FFXIV - Relic Weapon Questlines. It's part RNG nightmare, part massive grind. It often takes weeks or months of commitment to earn.

Zodiac Spear in FFXII without a guide your first time through

Opened the wrong, totally random treasure chest? Too bad, it's gone now

Came in to post this.

I had already gone through that dungeon before even knowing about the spear. When I found out about the spear, I back tracked to the dungeon and got lucky. I hadn't fucked it up.

The Rakuyo from the Old Hunter expansion of Bloodborne. An enclosed room with two of those big fuckers who are bullshit to fight by themselves. It's the only thing left from the expansion I need to do.

Ultima or End of Pain in the Kingdom Hearts games.
I'd actually say Ultima is even harder to obtain in the HD remixes because in both Final Mixes they completely redid the synthesis recipes to use materials from the new Heartless enemies, and some of them are completely bullshit and can murder you no matter what level you are.

THESE. MOTHERFUCKERS. They spawn endlessly if they spot you (and you can no longer get the item drop when this happens) and do ridiculous amounts of damage.

I keep reading this and still don't understand why. Sure, those dudes were tough, but it probably took me like 3 tries to take them down. There was other stuff in the DLC that was much MUCH harder, IMO.

Half of Final Fantasy X's optional content is getting ultimate weapons and its fucking terrible.

The biggest flaw in that game by far.

Literally none of those quests were any fun. Some of them were so tedious people invented new ways to trick the system into thinking you were playing so you wouldn't have to put the time in.

That is the definition of shitty game design, and I loved FFX.

Sword of Kings in Earthbound for Poo. I spent hours fighting away to no avail. I kinda wish the guide had never mentioned it. It had a ridiculously low drop rate.

The drop rate isn't even the real problem. The issue is that only one enemy drops it, and that enemy is only in one dungeon, and all the random encounters disappear after you beat the boss -- and worst of all, this is one of the very few dungeons where that happens, so the player has no reason to expect it. So you can't even power level and then come back to get it. You either grind, or you get lucky, or you forget about it.

I've beaten the game numerous times without it and I beat it once in a playthrough where I did get it, and honestly I don't remember it being any easier. It's a game that's kind of easy around the end anyway.

Every time I've played through my physical copy of earthbound, I Pursue this and succeed. I think it's not just a ridiculous drop rate, there have to be other factors as well.

It's still ridiculous though quoted drop rate of 1/256 and it's the only weapon for one of your characters.

Excalibur 2 is pretty hard, speed running parts of that game can get ridiculous

The Diablo 3, patch 2.1.2 Ancient Furnace. You could play 10 hours a day for months without seeing one, and even if you did get an ancient version there was no guarantee that it would roll with the correct main stat for your class. Oh, and it was the only viable end game weapon for Barbarians at the time...

You can get one in less than an hour now because of Kanai's Cube, but back then...

Maybe it's just me but I can't read them at all. Those two have killed me more than anything in the game other then maybe Gehrman.

Not in Deadlocked they don't. Seriously, that game took all the fun out of R&C.

Rachel and Clank 1 was the only one where I couldn't get in my first play through. I like their running joke that everything charges you, one of the few series where I actually run out of money constently.

Oh now I remember!

I dunno how I managed to get the ultima weapon in KHFM in japanese >.>

FFX...

It's a tie between chocobo racing for tidus, 200 lightning bolts for lulu, butterflies for kimahri. Blitz ball varies to an extent

Oh no no no no

Don't remind me of those fucking demons ;___;

The hand cannon in resident evil 4, I'm surprised I managed to get it.

Yup, came in for this. You gotto get a 5-star ranking on every level (4 levels) with each character (5 characters) for a total of at least 20 Mercenaries playthroughs.

Luckily for me, I enjoyed Mercenaries a lot, so while there were some growing pains, I actually got hooked on the fun. (Growing pains = getting a 5-star ranking with Leon in the "Waterworld" stage. Fuck that double-chainsaw Dr Salvador. Although I got my revenge with Ada, she's a fucking beast in Mercenaries).

Teebu's Blazing long sword in world of warcraft, the only time I have ever seen that thing drop was during the opening of AQ event off the giant anubisaths stomping around.

After that I have only seen it in the Auction house going for millions.

That weapon is legendary to everyone who bought the game when it first released and saw it in the flip out game box cover.

However much I find these to be annoying and part of why I left XIV, the relic weapons in FFXI were way, way, way significantly worse.

Pure bladestone weapon upgrade in demons souls. I found my limit on that one

I dont play mmos but i can only imagine the pain

Yeah if you don't know about the whole Zodiac spear thing, then you'll certainly miss it. But if you do, it's easy. In FF12 vanilla, anyway. I heard it's different in IZJS, though.

Relics were pretty crazy in FFXI's heyday, but was worse was getting a Futsuno Mitama...or any other drop from Absolute Virtue. I'm sure it's beatable now, but back then it wasn't unless it was nerfed, then it would be unnerfed shortly after.

This. The chocobo racing one was annoying but I eventually did it. I could never do the lightning dodges though.

I was the opposite, I did the lightning dodges and said fuck it to the chocobo racing just like I said fuck it to blitzball. Getting the weapons in that game was such a fucking chore.

Getting the Tournesol in FFXII was also a slog too, the rate of drops for the items was stupid low.

For some reason, I just can't beat them. Most difficult encounter in the game, by far, including the defiled chalice.

FF10 and 9 with Excalibur are bullshit.

I got the Zodiac Spear from 12 the hard way. A chest that has a 10% chance of appearing with a 1% chance of there being an item in the chest with a 1% chance that item being the spear halfway through one of the hardest dungeons in the game.

Fuck Abysteels.

It's actually only ~40k now to get one.

I've got the sword of kings a few times...

Jeffs ultimate weapon however has always eluded me.. I think you have to fight a random enemy in the underway to get it. And it's the same drop rate as sword of kings or the gutsy bat

Do they come from the black market AH now or something?

Back about a year ago I saw one listed for like 800k

Apparently it can drop from a Big Crate of Salvage from the level 3 Salvage Yard now.

Garrisons literally killing the game.

Just witnessed my little brother obtain some alien weapon in Fallout 4. Something about an alien ship crashing as well.

Personally, I'd have to say all legendary weapons in FFX/FFXII.

Edit: I only obtained all the weapons in FFX, not FFXII.

Lulu's fucking sigil in FFX. We tried and we tried. Finally a friend said he could do it so I came home from a mission and he did it for 3 days. Paused the game for hours while he did other things but he never messed up and did it. I kissed the dirty hippy and I do so every time I remember it.

ahaha yup i did everything in FF12... i was lucky in that i got the guide and the game day one.. i took the guide to the bathroom and flipped through it and found the spear and read about it.. so i got it as early as you could possible get it, but that fucking dagger took me like 50-100 hours of leveling/grinding to get a drop.😞

Yeah that was the hard part. The drop :( when you knew, thanks gamefaqs, the dagger was so fucking annoying to grind for.

BTW anyone checked out the bunny suits in Xenoblade? Have a feeling those might be hard as eff and even if you can buy most if it I reckon the grind will kill me if I want a full set for both Elma and Doug.
