I didn't really read much EU but was there ever more on the Bothans? They intruiged me as they were the ones who actually stealthed into the Death Star and stole its plans. I'd like to see more of them.

On a whaling voyage with his wife and son, George R. Binks encountered an aggressive whale. Thanks to numerous poor navigation choices by Jar Jar, the whale crashed into the ship, causing it to sink. After this incident, the Binks family found themselves shipwrecked on a desolate island for over a month. During this time, prompted by his annoyance at his son's constant clumsy behavior, Binks unsuccessfully attempted to commit suicide.

George R. Binks was created by Tony Millionaire, and is the main character of the short comic George R. Binks, which was published in Star Wars Tales 20 in June 2004.

The big problem with the "let's give a story to that extra in that one scene" idea is all the writers want to make the character be super important and connected to the films. Sometimes a guy at the cantina bar is just a farmer who lives on his farm and has nothing notable happen to him all his life.

Obviously you want to write about someone interesting. But jeez have some more imagination than "he's Force sensitive and was Han Solo's roommate and also was the Emperor's tailor until he left a loose thread that caused the events of A New Hope somehow".
 
Maul is pure fanservice true but, living with pure hatred sustaining your fucked up body is the reason Anakin didnt suffocate with burned lungs in Sith.


It's canon and gave us one if the best seasons in Clone Wars

As for Padme not having motivation to raise her children, I can buy that she was mentally scarred by those events. Though it was still dumb.
 
I'm gonna go with the whole Caedus arc. It's not as patently absurd as a lot of the stuff mentioned, but this sort of held promise at first.

But no. We got the equivalent of the switch being flipped "killing younglings, I'm evil now." Then they build him up to be so powerful that in order to have his sister kill him, he first needs to be a maimed amputee who also gets distracted at the last minute.

Entire arc became extremely lame, with no payoff.

IIRC, Vader went to Bespin and captured everyone in order to set a trap for Luke (Ep. 5). He sees a busted up Threepio (damaged when everyone tried to fight back) and remembers that he built him when he was Anakin. In a brief moment of mercy, he orders Threepio's parts to be given to Chewie (understanding that Chewie could rebuild him) instead of being scrapped.

Yeah. I mean people are stupid to think that the canon is going to be any tighter now than it was. All they did was clear the canvas so they could pump out as much crap as they want without being beholden to anything. When it's time for a new trilogy, I expect much pruning again. That's assuming they even bother to ever take a break after the trilogy.

I highly doubt that they'll suddenly stop with star wars movies after the trilogy after having been releasing at least 1 star wars movie a year for 10 years straight. *sigh* I'll enjoy this feeling of joy towards star wars while it lasts.

Not Star Wars but this is canon in the Doctor Who universe:
Jar Jar Binks was a member of a very hospitable clan of his race.

At some point in the late 20th century, around the time George Lucas was writing Episode One of Star Wars, Jar Jar sent a telepathic message to George. Perceiving him as an idea for a character, Lucas wrote him into the script.

IG-88 downloading himself into the Deathstar computers and was seconds from taking it over and taking over the galaxy before the rebels blew it up. And IG-88 AI fucking with the Emperor, closing elevator doors on him and shit. What a stupid story

Jaina training with the mandos on how to hunt Jedi was probably my favorite thing in the EU. Gotta disagree with you on this one.

Also, I dont recall that Vader ever used a Blaster and James Earl Jones sounds a little bit different

He was just later disassembled by Ugnaughts, were Chewbacca came just in time to collect his parts.

I really liked that guy as a kind of shady politician character. Basically he used the fact that some Bothans had sacrificed themselves for the Death Star plans as a means to gain political power.
