If he has any actual marksman training and maybe military (or something like it), such that he remains cool under pressure, then it's believable.
But if we turn him into an 18-year-old mother, scared shitless for herself and her baby, possibly without any real marksman training, let alone the experience needed to remain cool under any such situation (she's fucking 18 years old?)... yeah. Good luck with that logic.
<3Geez, she could've just shot the knife out of his hand. I mean maybe he was just desperately hungry and looking to break in so he could cut a piece of bread to eat.
Not this tired old bullshit. I didn't buy any knives to use them for a defensive or offensive purpose. I bought them so that I could cut up food and eat it, or cut electrical tape, or slice open a box. There's no good alternative for a knife. Some people in this thread are buying guns solely in case they might have to shoot people with them, so it's not quite the same thing is it?

+1Well the guy that got shot clearly wanted to use that knife for an offensive purpose. I don't think he intended to break into her room to cut up some chicken and eat it. So that knife could have been used for something productive, or something destructive like harming the lady and her baby.
I'm sure some people buy guns solely in case they have to shoot someone that breaks into their house (failing to see the harm in being prepared for that), but some like myself would have them for the former as well as for target practice at the range. It's fun to shoot a gun.
Watch out, surly is going to castrate you in 5 seconds for not being shocked at a burglar with a deadly weapon being shot.

Justin Shane Martin, 24, of Blanchard, died clutching a knife in his gloved left hand, according to court records filed in Grady County district court. His alleged accomplice, Dustin Louis Stewart, 29, also of Blanchard, shown above, later turned himself in to police.
Stewart later confessed to police that he and Martin "devised a plan to burglarize the residence" because Martin knew that "a resident of the home had recently died of cancer" and he "suspected narcotics may be located inside the residence," according to an affidavit. Stewart also told police that he and Martin took the drug hydrocodone about 30 minutes before the planned break-in, according to the court records.

Ah, yes, this tactic. It's very common on forums when people haven't got any comeback. "Evil criminal gene", LOL.Hush, now, child. It'll be okay.
It doesn't bother me. I don't live in America and thankfully, most of you don't own passports so you won't come here and start annoying me.alphaNoid said:In the time it took you to write that post, hundreds of guns were sold to law abiding citizens. How does that make you feel?
You missed the point. I can use all kinds of heavy or sharp objects to kill people. I could kill you with my computer monitor if I hit you hard enough with it. It's about intended and primary purposes and whether there is an alternative. Most people don't buy knives with the intention that one day they will use them to harm another person.andycapps said:Well the guy that got shot clearly wanted to use that knife for an offensive purpose. You could get an air gun for shooting targets. It's safer as it's much harder to kill people with one.............ahhh, that's why you wouldn't buy one.andycapps said:I'm sure some people buy guns solely in case they have to shoot someone that breaks into their house (failing to see the harm in being prepared for that), but some like myself would have them for the former as well as for target practice at the range. I've got a carving knife with a bigger blade than that. I don't see what your point is. It's amusing that the picture is from an American website called Wholesale Self Defence though.![]()
"here honey let me cut up that steak for you."
Neither of those exist primarily as a means of injuring or killing things.
Semantics.
Alcohol is a fucking POISON (bad). Primarily used getting intoxicated (good)
A car is a weapon at high speeds (bad). Primarily used as transportation (good)
A gun is a weapon that *can* be used to murder innocent people (bad!). Primarily used to protect good, innocent people from bad ones and kill delicious animals (good).
Dig?
Yeah but then we get into the terribly murky realm of personal responsibility. Much easier on the ol' conscience to just blame the guns, y'see.Semantics.

Bu-bu-bu-but there has to be more to this story!!!
She and her dead husband must owe drug dealers money!!!!
Holy shit, I misread the title as
'Mark Hamill Commits Suicide'. Don't ask me how.
what a pair of fucking assholes"devised a plan to burglarize the residence" because Martin knew that "a resident of the home had recently died of cancer"

YES! I was right! SUCK IT EVERYONE WHO NEVER REALLY DISAGREED WITH THAT PREMISE!
There is more to the story and in fact a connection to the couple. BTW, I never thought she did anything wrong. She did the only logical thing, under the circumstances.
Some people in here would still celebrate that. It's a death after all.Holy shit, I misread the title as
'Mark Hamill Commits Suicide'. Don't ask me how.
It's not bullshit. Most Americans don't own passports, which Americans sometimes see as a bad thing, but the rest of the world sees as a good thing. (It's just a joke!)Mammoth Jones said:C'mon man. Get the fuck out of here with that bullshit.
ONE LAST TIME - I DID NOT MAKE EXCUSES FOR THESE GUYS. Read my posts you fucking mongs, lol. I said that I was on her side when it came to the shooting, but that she shouldn't have posed on TV looking down the barrel of a shotgun cos it was tasteless.remnant said:You're arguing with a brick wall. Wait, what was the premise?

You're arguing with a brick wall. Some people are to attached to their ideology that they can't see out of it, and I'm guessing surly and the people who made excuses for these guys have that attitude towards guns.
First you try to discredit the story. (Well there must be more we don't know. Maybe they owed drug money?)
Then you blame the shooter(well why didn't she shoot the leg?)
Then you blame the culture(Well if Americans weren't so individualistic, liked the 2nd amendment, followed our policies, these guys wouldn't exist and this girl wouldn't be in trouble. We should be exactly like the UK)
and finally it turns into a "What good are guns?" and people deem them to only have one evil purpose.
Give it 2 more pages and it turns into a "Recommend me a gun to defend myself" thread.
Just because I'm a gun owner doesn't mean I'm some snarling neanderthal with drool dripping out of the side of my mouth
There is more to the story and in fact a connection to the couple. BTW, I never thought she did anything wrong. She did the only logical thing, under the circumstances.
Most people do. That's why we have laws that make it an offence to not wear a seatbelt while driving, to drive too fast, to drive while drunk, to drive while using a phone etc. People are fucking idiots generally and need to be protected from their own stupidity. Giving them guns isn't a particularly good idea.
I'm from the UK. Nobody owns guns to protect themselves here. We're missing the FEAR that you guys have I guess.
I've already said that I didn't have a major issue with her shooting the guy. My gripe is with her posing on TV while looking down the barrel of a gun into the camera. Either she suggested that or she was asked to do it, but if it was the latter she could have said no. It was fucking tasteless. The sort of thing that the "I'm glad someone is dead!" crowd get semis over.
Upon reading this thread, I don't understand you people defending the criminals. You don't want to get shot, don't break into people's houses and obey the damn law. It's so simple.
Somebody breaks into my house while I am home, they are getting shot, stabbed, or beat with a baseball bat.
Moral of the story. Don't be a scumbag human being, and break into/onto other people's property (with weapons no less). Show some damn respect.
This guy got what he deserved.
I'm not ready to believe she is a "hero" just yet. The shooting is probably justified no matter what, but there are a lot of more likely reasons for men to be breaking into a house then rape and murder. Were these associates or her late husband? Did he have something of theirs? You see where I'm going?
Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I can remember similar scenarios where the intruders were looking to collect drugs/drug money that someone owed them, forced their way in, and got blasted.
Freaking called it on the first page...Bit more info from the affidavit as told by the guy she didn't have a chance to shoot:

Screw that. If he was stalking her, he knew that her husband was dead and probably thought she was defenseless.
I have a passport, and you don't have to worry about me coming to the UK. Wouldn't be caught dead there. It's not bullshit. Most Americans don't own passports, which Americans sometimes see as a bad thing, but the rest of the world sees as a good thing. (It's just a joke!)
Not the connection that was specified as being due to illegal narcotics or some illegal debt owed to the villains. Not saying you said that, but others did.
And I am laughing at them.
Why the fuck would anyone want an airsoft gun for target practice? LolI have a passport, and you don't have to worry about me coming to the UK. Wouldn't be caught dead there.
Re: your earlier comment about why I should just get an airsoft gun for target practices instead of a real gun, hahahahaha. That's a good one. I'm starting to like your sarcasm.
I'm from the UK. Nobody owns guns to protect themselves here.
We're missing the FEAR that you guys have I guess.
Why the fuck would anyone want an airsoft gun for target practice? Lol
Did she warn the guys while they were breaking in? I mean who's willing to charge into a loaded rifle?
I'm from the UK. Nobody owns guns to protect themselves here. We're missing the FEAR that you guys have I guess.
He's probably never shot a gun, so he guessed that they're roughly the same experience. LOL.
Why the fuck would anyone want an airsoft gun for target practice? Lol
You do know that you can get a gun here right? I could be "popping caps in asses" just like you guys if I applied for a license.Ironically, gun control is far more motivated by fear than is gun ownership. After all, if you didn't FEAR what you imagine everyone might do if they had guns, you wouldn't support banning guns.
She had plenty of time to issue a warning in this case. She heard them trying to get in, so she barricaded the front door. She then went and put a bottle in her baby's mouth, grabbed a shotgun and handgun and called the police. She was on the phone to the police for 21 minutes. When the first guy eventually broke the door down and got in, she shot him with the shotgun and killed him and the other guy ran away.racerx77 said:Oh, come on. Situations like this , you have very little time to react. He had a HUNTING KNIFE and BROKE IN. No warning needed IMO.
But you can legally acquire a gun here.Hero said:The UK is one of the worst places to live as far as violent crime goes. And most, if not all, of that has to do with the fact that the ordinary commoner can't acquire a gun to protect themselves.
LOL! Yeah, cos that makes all the difference. I have fired a shotgun, so presumably that would count as a "real gun".Hero said:I doubt you've even ever held or fired a real gun once.
Based on what stats? But you can legally acquire a gun here.
Statistically speaking, you're more likely to be injured/killed by your own gun or shot by a friend/relative using your own gun, than you are to be injured/killed by a violent intruder breaking into your home.
My main concern would've been... what if it's someone you know playing a practical joke?
