So I was wondering what do different people here on gaf do to keep themselves motivated when trying to achieve different things (weight loss, focusing on the job, other goals, ect.). I ask because I'm in the middle of my finals and have lost steam. I can't look at another equations, theory, or write another paper. It's not that I get distracted but I just can't think about work anymore.

So what do you use to motivate yourselves when trying to do various stuff in your lives?

My two cents: I've resorted to making a huge poster and putting right over my workplace with some inspiriation quotes about destiny, the universe, and Micheal Jordan dunking.

I end up taking some small breaks. Go outside for a half hour or so, read through an actual novel, play a few rounds of Advance Wars Dual Strike....it all comes down to time management. Helps me to avoid getting overly bored when I'm studying.

He told me to get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page and hang it on a prominent wall. The next step was to get a big red magic marker.

He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day. "After a few days you'll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You'll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain."

"Don't break the chain," he said again for emphasis.

Take time to wind down and then get back to it.

Or give yourself this pep talk which usually gets me motivated: "Think how disappointed everyone would be in you if you quit now. You want to be a fucking failure for the rest of your life? You've come this far, if you quit now you're a worthless excuse for a person. You'll never be appreciated for anything"

Not directed at anyone, just an example. Cursing and beating up on myself seriously gets me motivated. :lol

Think of the goals you have.

Whenever I don't feel motivated I just think of this:

Anyone have any music they listen that focuses or motivates them? I was kinda surprised that T.I's track was used. That album wasn't exactly the friendliest around.

I try not to care about it. Being motivated is dependent on factors I can't control so instead of letting my work be controlled by the whims of the world I just buckle down with my nose to the grindstone.
