Moto X |OT| Hello, Moto

Anyone get their Moto X engraved? Thinking of getting my initials done on it, but it looks really stupid on the Motomaker website...wondering how it looks in reality.

i just ordered one with my email on the back. figure someone can get a hold of me easily if they find it

thanks, is this about on par with the nexus 5

After going back and forth a lot myself I'd say yes, and it comes down to personal preference about the size (moto x is markedly smaller), specs (if you want raw specs the n5 is better) and features (always on voice activation, active notifications made possible through a ship/amoled screen etc).

While the s800 in the n5 may be more 'future proof' than the s4 pro has been very well optimized and the moto is a very snappy phone. Compared side by side the moto actually seemed smoother and more responsive, in general something that seemed to have more care put into its construction.

At $500 for the moto x and $350 for the n5 it's probably a tossup leaning towards the n5 for value. If you can get the $350 unlocked deal on monday I'd seriously consider the moto (full disclosure: I just ordered mine)

By the way if anyone wants a code ($150 discount) send me a PM, apparently buying a Moto X is too much of a hassle for anyone who is not in the US.

Is that red crimson or cherry? 'Cause your combo with crimson looks schweet.

EDIT: lol realized my email was on the back in the first image.

I picked one up during the last sale and I must say I am impressed. Moving up from a two year old Galaxy Nexus, this seems so much more polished, and though the screen is bigger on the Moto X the phone is much smaller. One question though, is there a way to hide the home, back and app tray buttons? On my nexus they vanished when not in use.

when did they disappear? my gnex didn't do anytthing like that unless i was watching a movie or using stock browser w/full screen or something

My contract on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus is about to be up and I'm considering getting a Moto X.

The thing is, with these specs will this phone last two years?

It looks like the only decent phone on Verizon at the moment. My GNex still works alright so I'm thinking I might hold out until either an X2 or Nexus 5 equivalent shows up on the big red.

I could maybe see holding out until the X2 only since the moto x has been out for a while, but really the specs on this phone don't matter. If you look around at the various benchmarks it is right there with all the other top phones. So, in short, it should last you just fine. The only concern I have with mine is the battery performance in a year and a half, but from what I've seen it's not to hard to replace the battery with the right tools.

In other news, I'm really bummed about the wood backs. I held out as long as I could, but got the mint green back just a few weeks ago. I have 30 days to return the phone for a new back since I'm in California, but at $100 dollars and with only bamboo, it just doesn't seem worth it. I really wanted the rosewood especially. Maybe in a few months I'll be able to find a wood back online and swap out myself as some people have already done with the colored backs. Here's hoping.

Still though, I'm absolutely loving this phone so far.

Yeah it occurred to me that feeling / experience matter more to me than specs. I can't stand the thought of having a plasticky GS4 and having to root it / use a custom ROM just to make it usable. I also think the screen size on my GNex is about perfect and Moto X is roughly the same.

Two other concerns:

Has the camera improved with the recent software updates? I don't need something amazing but it'd be nice to have a camera better than my GNex.

Like you said, battery life...how is it?

I haven't really used the camera myself, but there are several reviews that have been updated with the new updates which report the camera is much better.

My battery life has been about a day and a half per charge. Screen on time averages just over 3 hours. Mostly internet browsing with some videos, occasional navigation, and maybe 30 minutes of gaming per day. This tends to be the average for the phone, though some people have been getting even better battery life. basically, I never worry about charging it in a single day. With my old phone the second I would use navigation I made sure to plug it in. Now I just do whatever. Listen to music on my hour long commute unplugged as well.

Got it for $0 with Fido at FutureShop in Canada. I'm falling in love with the design of the phone, which I wasn't quite fond of the first time I saw it in person. Coming from a Galaxy SII, the screen is absolutely beautiful!

the Moto X is a great device. personally, i'd be looking at the LG G2 or Note 3, but i can see why some would want a smaller device.

Cherry red back with black front and accent.

So far I'm really liking it, the phone is pretty smooth in every task I throw at it. Battery life is pretty good too, I get an average of 14 hours on a full charge when using T-Mobile's LTE network.

This one is the T-mobile model, I already tested it with T-Mobile, Metro PCS and Straight Talk (via AT&T sim) and It works perfectly.

Looks really good. I wish I would have waited until Sprint had their moto maker going. I'd of loved to have a red one.

Coming from a Galaxy Nexus myself, the camera on the Moto X is leagues ahead of it. Battery life is amazing too, but my Nexus was particularly bad at holding a signal so it needed a ton of charging and anything would be an improvement. I've gone 2 days without a charge on the Moto X, kind of incredible how little power it uses when idle.

Even though I own a an HTC One which is a fantastic phone, I actually wish I could test drive the Moto X for a week and see if I prefer the battery life, voice controls, feel, and one handed vs the HTC One.

One of the first updates made the camera much better. Google around for comparisons or just read this. Technically the camera is pretty good, but it struggled a bit because it was unique with the pixel layout.

You're right. For some reason the bottom bar looks so much more unobtrusive on the Galaxy Nexus. I sat and stared at both for about a minute and the only reason I could come up with is the front plate being black blends in better with the home bar more than the white front plate.

Ended up returning mine. The 'Ok Google Now" voice recognition stuff was cool but you had to yell or something it felt like so I decided agst it. Just sticking with my iPhone and a Google Glass app now exists .

Are the two clear cases on Moto's website the best choice for this? I just got one for my wife and want a clear case that can show off her color scheme but also protect against drops from our toddler.

I think most cases are basically the same. If you want major protection then you should probably go with an otter box or not let a toddler handle your phone.
