MotorStorm 2 Screens & Interview (and gameplay video)

Good to hear they're expanding the single player game. I still think the core gameplay of M1 (handling/physics) was excellent despite how limited it was, so this has the makings of something special imo. But with it looking this good, what are the odds of a solid framerate? I hope they can nail it this time as I hated the tearing/slowdown in the later stages of the original. Come to think of it I don't know of a single 'current gen' racer that has a perfect framerate, which is really the one genre that really needs it.

Ey, nice mag :) Looks ace, and reads well on your monitor! Thx!

It amazes me that people still don't seem to get this. Quality motion blur is one of the best things to happen to games in this gen.
QFT!

I guess gamers love the clinic look to games. Obviously there is a point to with motion blur is overused but I think GTA IV did it well and to extent the few times I played Orange Box for the PS3. It did help to hide some of framerate issues in that game.

Yep, motion blur is an great visual effect if done right (Lost Planet, Orange Box, Gears Of War, GTA4, PGR3/4, Uncharted).

btw Motorstorm 2 looks very good - can't wait to see the game in motion. :)

Looking good. Looking good.

Lol....

If they can fix the rubberband AI and the controls, we'll be good as gravy. I just didn't like the first one. It's not the god of racers like people will push you to believe.

You're mistaking proper use of the boost for Rubber band AI.

OIt's not a god but it's easily the best racer this gen.

Based only on the pictures in this thread MS2 doesn't look anything special.
Huh? MS1 didn't look all that great in screens, but it's one of the best-looking racing games this gen...even post-GT5P. This game is all about scale. Not just the scale of the levels, but the scale of the carnage. MS1 was a stupid-fun game that might have dropped way more jaws had it had a replay feature. The reason being, the game is a non-stop blitz of flying vehicles and parts. Buggies and jeeps exploding into a million pieces all-around you as you fight the terrain and flying mud/dirt. Oh, and the lighting was tits too. This look better than the original so far IMO. I'm hoping for "Uncharted jeep chase"-quality scenery with 16 cars and a fucking replay feature. PEACE.

I debated whether or not to say this...and I hope no one holds this against me (because I will buy and most likely adore Motorstorm 2 regardless of the following complaint)...but does anyone else feel like the art direction here is...lacking?

Seriously...I question a game which not only has that old guy as a playable character...but decides that he should be front and center of more than one screenshot.

Almost as bad as the main character on the hot shots golf PS3 boxart.

Yeah I understand what your saying.

TBH I'm happy with the masked helmet wearing riders in the previous game. They've still got the helmet riders which is good, but they've added something completely odd to the mix.

Only explination I can think of having the beard guy in those shots would be if they were showing of some sort of character customization feature or something. Does MS2 have this feature?

Possibly...but nothing has been announced. I agree with you in the sense that I wish they stuck with helmeted riders.

I'm really curious to see how these artists handle lava...they could really eff it up.

On a side note, have they confirmed night + headlights anywhere yet?

Looks good, but I'm really interested in seeing a new trailer for enhancements they make to the engine. They say it's a new engine in the interview even though the screens look very much like an enhanced Motorstorm 1 (which was and still is awesome visually), so I hope that the changes mean something significant to the gameplay.

Yeah, I'm interested too...but I don't think the gameplay really needs all that much tweaking IMO. The environments were the first game's only real weak spot for me.

Some minor gameplay tweaks I'd like to see would be to add a little weight to the vehicles, alter the lighting engine to allow headlights/taillights, and to let track deformation affect handling.

I wonder if the old guy can do facial expressions.

Now I can safely say it looks pretty average, not the leap I was expecting from the first one.

I NEED to see this in motion and a feature list.

Exactly. First looked way better in motion.

It's still months away from development and remember how much the first improved in the final few months?

It will look much better when released.

Looks slow & floaty :\

Just like the first looked right before E3. It's very early, still pre-alpha, it seems Evolution has their particular development schedule so that their games come to life in the last 6 months of development.

Uhhh.. is it just me or is that video running in slow motion (literally)? I'm watching the timer and my timer on WMP and it seems to be waaaaay slow. Weird.

not bad for 40%.

I can see there will be lots of tweaks esp the PP effects look like wasn't enabled this time.

:lol Pretty much same complaints as the early MS1 vids, too slow, odd physics, which was all fixed as the game got closer to being done.

Looks great. I traded in the 1st one because of the lack of splitscreen and looong loading times. They addressed the splitscreen and now we just need to make the load times non-existent!

Visually pretty tasty but seems early, lots of hitching and screen tears/features missing. Seriously, 2nd gen engine, locked 30fps please no bullshit. Pre alpha though so there's hope and considering how MS1 came together at the end it may end up ok.

Yeah the surrounding areas looked really nice and the lighting... but he was just floating away, pretty dissapointing, but it's still early.

Doesn't look like the foilage reacts to the vehicles. :(
The guy calls the environment "active" as he passes through tree branches.

Looks pretty ok for 40% complete.

Wouldn't the flames from the boost melt the tires on the monster truck? ;)

Did you notice the vines falling loose when he ran through them?

No, I thought I saw him passing through a hanging vine. Time on the vid?
