MotorStorm: Apocalypse preview and screens

As I said in the other thread, looking good. I like the idea, could make it intense, motorstorm always is. Hopefully the rubberband AI will finally be toned down though :(.

im so hyped for this game, sound like that scene from 2012.
wtf racing on top of skyscrapers as they fall down.
i wanna see this at their press conference as the stage demo, that would woow people.

I wonder if this will give the same feeling that Uncharted 2's falling building while fighting did at last E3. By that I mean a "Holy crap they're racing while the building they're in is falling!" type of thing.

Man I wish my internet was fixed, I hope G4 get everything and more. Darn you Bellsouth!

Also I loved 2012 and hope this game is just as over the top awesome. Think about the high falls in MS2:PR, the ones where you land and get the ear ringing effect. Think about falling as two towers are falling like that plane part of 2012, the 3d effects will probably be crazy. It seems like this thing is made for 3d showcasing.

IMHO:

first row: all ingame (of course they MIGHT be a bit touched up by a possible recurring photo mode but MS games look better in motion anyway)

second row: first 3 from the left are ingame, the fourth is from the CGI intro part I guess (read the sign)

third row: all concept arts

fourth row: first and third from the left look like (cgi) artworks to me, second and fourth is concept art

plus the one you questioned which is also an artwork (and labelled as such, some of the other pictures even have the artists sign)

Awesome, thanks- I agree with your analysis.

lol where do they go next space?
That... would be awesome. Void Rays, Battle Cruisers and Mutalisks all over my face in space!

Thanks. I forgot about U3.

Didnt realize Infamous was 2011 also.

Oh boy.

:D
2011 sounds like 2009, only toss in MotorStorm, replace Ratchet with Resistance, and replace Demon's Souls with the Last Guardian (but if we're lucky, we'll get Demon's Souls 2 alongside the Last Guardian!).

And then there's that Agent game or whatever. But it's from Rockstar North, so I doubt it'll mean much.

Please get rid of the suicide AI that would rather take out the player than try to win the game for their self. I can see them taking a risk on trying to bump you out of the track, but pushing you off of the road, bringing both of you to a stop while still grinding you on the wall as it's buddies pass both of you by just show how lame the ai aggression is.
No way. Can't have intensity without blatant rubberbanding.

Why? We have already seen screens :/ The previous games were shown in CG before any screens.

I agree. We've seen Killzone 3 screens and are getting a gameplay trailer. I expect the same for this game.

I fucking love the sound of this game. Racing down the side of a falling skyscraper? Fuck yes.

What sort of lighting model are they using as it looks fantastic in them shots.

Stew you have been a little too positive over the visual appearance of some of these games as of late.
Whats the deal man?

Yeah this sounds amazing. I had to go back to Pacific Rift tonight after all these previews, the game is still amazing. Not WipEout HD amazing but better than 99% of other arcade racers this gen.

sony make this one of your PR bookend demos, MS:A should be this years uncharted2 onstage demo.

so hyped for this, i have loved both MS games, PR was fantasic.. any one who's played the full game knows this. frantic is a word to describe the series and i just love evo studios approch to these games..total faith in them

The power of the Darkside bro. Even Stew couldn't hold out for long:lol

No need to write another f'ing post. The chips have spoken

EDIT:OH SHIT AT THAT PIC 0_0
MotorStorm 1 had nighttime races (I think they were DLC), but yes headlights will be welcome this time :P

The game looks great and sounds like a big leap in a better direction. Looking forward to seeing this in motion!

Like a lot of people have already said, i really hope they update the AI, it's the only thing i don't like about the series.

RavenFox said:
That's the point. Full DL headlights at night.
The article made it sound like nighttime races were new. Just wanted to clarify what in that sentence was hypeworthy :)

As always, I call it as I see it, when games deserve shit, they'll get it. Sony's first party studios are just so far ahead of most when it comes to pushing hardware its hard to criticise their work.

I really wish to see a video that showcases the new dynamic lighting system/headlights before jumping in joy. But it sure does sound promising!

A definite no go for me. I was pretty pumped for the first Motorstorm, until I actually played it and realized they didn't even try to hide the rubber AI. I can imagine the others being the same. :lol

Well if that's the case I guess I can allow myself to get excited :D

I want this game to feel faster , MotorStorm and M:PR were slow , not 30fps slow but really slow ,some 30fps racers feel fine like Blur , PGR4 , even Modnation , Motorstorm is not like that.

also hope they remove the Rubber Band AI , it's pure street dog shit , Split/Second killed me with this disgusting and broken ai , many people have problems with later Races in both Motorstorm and they lost their intret in the game because of that , some one fix this.

also balance the damn vehicles in all the tracks for all Santa's sake , PR online was crap because certain type of cars are just insane on most of the tracks.

also , nice on the huge graphical upgrade , just like infamous 2 , unlike Killzone 3 ( shame on you G.G and 3D ).

Depends how you played it: i mean, did you played it really well? Once you knew the tracks and were driving with your bike with boost on, the "speed" was really impressive. Now with big trucks that "speed" effect was less noticeable.

One thing though:

No more disgustingly cheap rubberbanding that makes me hate the developers and their entire fucking family plz, thnx.
I concur.

If this game has rubberbanding like the first two games then they can take the game and shove it up their asses.

Prepare to be disappointed then. Rubber-banding AI is what makes Motorstorm Motorstorm. Otherwise it would just be, "Look at the pretty scenery: Apocalypse"

Everything for 2011. What about 2010?

It will probably be Resistance 3, and without any leak/preview so far (compare to other Sony's sequels), I bet Sony is going to save and hype it the most for the press conference in preparation of Fall release. But I have no interest in that series at all.

It's either that or Sony has given up Insomniac (or give their games less push) since they are no longer exclusive to them.

For FALL 2010 they have:

- Gran Turismo 5
- LittleBigPlanet 2
- SOCOM 4
- MOVE launch titles
- DC Universe Online
- Star Wars MMO?
- Free Realms

Plus earlier in the year they had:

- God of War 3
- Heavy Rain
- MAG
- ModNation Racers
- Yakuza 3
- 3D Dot Game Heroes

Announced for 2011:

- Motorstorm: Apocalypse
- Killzone 3
- inFamous 2

Speculated for 2011:

- Resistance 3
- Uncharted 3

Killzone always looked amazing, there's no way killzone 3 will not improve graphically. I played it again today and it's still impressive. Just because it has 3d doesn't make it the reason the game doesn't look 25% better (for the sake of the argument, for all I know there could be some jaw dropping graphics that look 30% better in the game). For people taking advantage of the 3D it'll be worth it as I hear it's pretty immersive.

Shitty game design makes game design shitty?

You sure got that one right.

But really - I've tried to enjoy Motorstorm 1, but couldn't, thanks to the unbearable rubberbanding. It's the cheapest way to increase difficulty of a race.

I skipped MS2 entirely because of it. If they are going to keep rubberbanding, then they should give difficulty options for the game.

They can still tone it down a bit. MS2 is ridiculous during the later stages, since even if you drive pretty fucking well, they'll blast right past you. A better option would be to allow for longer (not much longer) boost times if you're behind. The "lose your lead when you did absolutely nothing wrong" rubberbanding has to go.

Erm... what? That doesn't even make sense.

Visceral arcade racing games with no competition make an arcade game not so visceral and therefore shitty.

The thing I hate about rubber banding is that you can drive as well as you want but all of a sudden the A.I. will pop up ahead of you in the last 2 corners and you lose the race. It happens to me all the time with Split Second. Drives me insane.

It's absolutely awful. There is always a way to make a game challenging but fair. Rubber banding is just a lame way out.

Sorry but that's BS and it doesn't happen if you really drive as well as you can. There's obvious rubber-banding in Motorstorm, but there's NO CHEATING unlike many people seem to think.

If you drive a good line, optimize your boost, and don't crash, then you win. No two ways about it. Go beat some developer times then use the same line while racing with AI and you'll see that you win if you don't crash.
