Moving out of Florida-age

On the contrary, many people would say living in NJ is much more preferable than living in the shitty. A ton of New Yorkers come over to NJ to shop, get gas, get groceries, go to their sporting events.. not just talking about Manhatten either, Staten Islanders probably spend more time in NJ malls than their own. Jersey City though can be pretty dicey in certain areas, especially outside of the heights or downtown. Bayonne and Hoboken are trash too, though college kids love it there. The further north you go on the Hudson the better, but places like Weehawken to Fort Lee can be quite expensive. All in all if someone really wanted to make the move to NJ, I'd recommend central NJ over anything.
More or less. Depends on where. I went from living in Gainesville to living in Middle Georgia. It's not quite as hot and humid here, but it's pretty close. We do get a little bit of snow occasionally.

Portland or the Bay Area would be my choices. I was worried being a foodie and moving from the Bay Area but Portland is just as good. The people in both areas are chill and the weather isn't extreme. I haven't dealt with a Portland winter yet though.

If you honestly want to work a shitty job in that area of NJ..just go to Jersey Gardens. Hell there's two Gamestops in there. Hudson Mall is not even a mall..

There's cold front here in FL. No humidity whatsoever, and it's nice and cool.

My mother's friend's daugther and her husband lives in MD. She earns 80k a year, and it's still expensive living there. They want to move to OH.

Isn't this something you were planning for the future..? Save more than $1k..? NJ is not a cheap state and you best be ready for taxes and insurance.

Houston is definitely not a destination spot by any stretch of the imagination. It's boiling hot most of the time and the traffic here is the worst. But it's the energy capital of the world, adding more jobs per year than most major US cities do in a decade. It's also cheap as hell to live here. Use the extra money you make to get the hell outta here on the weekends.
I live in Florida now.
I think I would really enjoy living in Denver.
Please tell me more, good sir (or ma'am).

i hear charlotte is very reasonable price wise. I hear portland is nice, but i dont know your preferences, some people love popular places like LA, others hate them ya know.

My man! That is my old hometown. Great place to live. The economy on the coast isn't half bad thanks to the navy contracts. Great cost of living to. Lot of options.
Weather is amazing. There is actually 4 seasons. It doesn't get too cold too often. When it snows, it usually melts within the day. Skiing/snowboarding within an hour's drive. Tons of breweries/brewpubs to enjoy, tons of hiking, lots of 14ers for a challenge. View of the mountains in most areas of the front range. Great American Beer Festival every Fall.
Depends where in Florida. I live in South Florida and hate it. The heat, the traffic, the people. yeah there are nice perks but honestly I would give that up to move somewhere better.

Anyway, I've been seeing of a lot of "Best places to live" on MSN's homepage, and the states I always see pop up are Denver, Boise, Seattle, Somewhere in Maryland, Triangle area in N.C., a few places in Virginia, and that's about it I think.
None of the southern states are ever listed in the best places to live, except for Austin, TX, and as I've said already, N.C.

Since you don't have much money I would avoid big cities, even cheap ones like Houston are 3x the expense of regular sized towns. People lose perspective how dirt cheap small towns can be. $300 rents for a 3 bedroom house.
God's gift to America is Colorado. Front range (Denver, Boulder, eastern side) is amazing but still expensive. Western and southern Colorado is also amazing and not as well known. If you love the outdoors there isn't a greater state in the union. Maybe Utah is close. Downside is Colorado is not as cheap as you would find in a lot of the deep south or other less desirable areas of the country.

Wow, you moved here just in time to settle in for an amazingly beautiful rain-free summer. That is quite lucky of you! Though I do miss the rain... a lot.
OP, Portland is awesome. You would love it. Be aware that it is usually overcast for a good part of the year, with rain and dreariness in abundance. I imagine you would be in for a shock moving from Florida. I love that shit, but I do know a fair amount of out-of-towners who move here after seeing a beautiful summer only to be super surprised at how damn rainy it is all the time. Also, it's true that the job market is weak, but it's not entirely dead.
However! People here are super chill and very nice. The public transit is pretty good in the metro area. Rent is not that bad, and actually fairly decent, depending on where you want to live. There're a lot of beautiful areas very close by: the coast, mountains, desert. There is no shortage of yummy, organic, sustainable food to eat OR GROW, if you're into that kinda thing

NC is garbage. I live here. I honestly don't understand why so many people from Florida, NJ, and NY insist on moving here. Yes, housing is cheap, but good luck finding a job here.
