So the unapproved member Paulathon contacted me via YouTube; he wants to show you his pics, but can't post yet. I'll link them here so that you can look at his stuff!

GAF mods, approve this man!

...

Paulathon, ladies and gentlemen.
So way back in january while I was awaiting approval I got wmat to post some pics for me. The links have since gone down so I'll repost them here:

Honestly, I find the sucky ones more appealing than the ridiculously amazing ones.

I'm conflicted. On the one hand: we get ridiculously amazing efforts that look beautiful and have a similar aesthetic. On the other, though: people using tablets are basically destroying the whole concept. They may as well just draw and ink a piece of art on paper and scan it in, it feels like.

I'm not going to complain either way though.

Batbeg, what is it with me and agreeing with you today? It's like you're reading my thoughts or something.

Obligatory EVE moment: the first time you encounter a Titan. Most probably in your dinky newb Rifter that's falling apart at the seams. These ships are massive.

Not pictured: the equally massive support fleet.

Talking as someone who does use a tablet in drawing all his pieces, I don't think it makes as much of a difference as that really - yes, a tablet is generally more accurate than a mouse but it's not impossible to do some amazingly accurate pieces using just a mouse (Jochan's earlier MS Paint pieces come to mind in particular) plus even then you still have to contend with the fact that the original MS Paint is a bit lacking in features such as blend tools and brush types and layers. It's one thing to have a more useful input device but quite another to have a more powerful paint package to go with it.

(I try to compensate by ALWAYS doing my pieces using the default 16 colours without editing a single one. It's a good disciplinary practice as you find new and different ways to blend the same colours into different places so they appear, when isolated, to be different colours in themselves.)

Finally, the concept of recreating your favourites in MS Paint is more about showing everyone what you class to be defining experiences in the games you enjoy. If I am permitted to speak rather openly I find that pictures that are simply copying promo art, fantastic as they sometimes are, are the ones really defeating the purpose, unless said art is actually part of a specific point in the game. It's meant to be about the defining moments in the games. Someone who has done a technically lacking recreation of, say for instance, the Kraken fight in God of War 2 or running along the colossal chains holding them ginormous horses in place is much better than someone painstakingly drawing the boxart pixel by pixel.

Agreed.

I'll apologize in advance :(

It's meant to be the
FFT whistling scene
:lol For some reason I thought this took place by a marsh, though this at least isn't true for the PSP cutscene and I can't find any shots of the PSX version.
