Shovelware sells hardware.
Fact of our industry.
They aren't going to sell another 19 million units this year.
Excuse me? I think you quoted the wrong post. I said elaborate on the sigh not congrats.
"But does it have Uncharted?"
This generation belongs to Nintendo.
Cept almost none of the software is selling.
You think they sold more in the first half of the quarter than the second half? It's not possible.
Kinect number isn't surprising since most new XBOX 360s sold came with it. Not like it sold itself.
funny kinect sold so well since it's so freaking lame. that's a lot of people upset they wasted so much money for a gimmicky thing like that. endless dancing games means at least girls and glee boys are happy.
Wow. Just so many people trolling here.
Games sell hardware. People want Dance Central 1/2, and now, Just Dance 3. This is not hard to see why it's selling.
Shit dude, I think you've really nailed it. All those other companies who advertise their products as "not so hot" and "not cool to own" have really been going about things the wrong way. No wonder so many products fail.

You still have to intentionally buy it. It's not like the Kinect-less Xbox 360s aren't right next to it on the shelf and $100 cheaper.Kinect number isn't surprising since most new XBOX 360s sold came with it. Not like it sold itself.
Can't you buy 360s standalone and in bundles without Kinect? Why would so many people buy Kinect bundles if they don't want Kinect?
And practically storage-less. The fact that Kinect is bundled with a new machine for practically nothing (and a larger hard drive) adds more value to that item than saving $100 on the gimped version. And yes, the Kienct marketing helps push those units as well, but it's the bundle selling, not Kinect itself. You still have to intentionally buy it. The price difference is minimal considering the 4GB is gimped with such low storage space. A good example would be here in Canada, where on Boxing week, the Kinect bundle sold quick while the 4GB piles were left practically untouched.

Better chance of it coming out this year than next.720 isn't coming out end of this year
Was still a $70 difference. If people were hellbent on not getting the Kinect experience, they would have, and that could have gotten them another game for the same cost. The price difference is minimal considering the 4GB is gimped with such low storage space. Good point. Crazy if the 360 sold more than the PS3 worldwide for 2011. SonyGAF had me convinced that was not possible.
Fixed.

The Kinect is bundled with the exact same 4GB hard drive for $100 more. You aren't too good at this.

I am a firm believer that all three next gen consoles will be on store shelves by the end of 2013. Two on shelves by the end of this year. Nintendo and MS sitting under a 2012 christmas tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G!
Except the difference this year is that all the actual sales numbers we get for NPD & Media Create for oct-dec show the ps3 up year on year & we already know that for the last 5 weeks of the year worldwide the ps3 has sold 3.9 million so unless European sales numbers for the ps3 in oct-nov were terrible the ps3 will be up by a fair bit this quarter compared to last year. They said the same thing last year after Q3 which meant they expected 2.8 in Q4. They missed it by .7 million. I even remember people trying use that statement as proof of their sales.
I don't care if it does bad or if it does good. If I would have picked up another XBOX360 console this Christmas, it would've been the Kinect bundle. Not because it has Kinect, but the possibility of being able to use it and its functionality in the future with software and whatever comes in the later dashboard revisions (and PC). There's so much more value in that bundle for an additional (and minimal) amount.

Should we put you on suicide watch? Just don't be too disappointed when that doesn't happen. People expecting Microsoft to focus on the next Xbox at E3 are in for a surprise as well.

Yea, put me on that watch also. If they don't announce the new consoles at E3, I'm going to be very disappointed. I can't wait much longer!

PS3 sold 3.8 Million worldwide for the same time frame Holiday 2009. It shipped 6.5 Million that quarter of 2009. Shipments should be around the same this time. 6.5 to 7.0 Million for the quarter.
They're already up in north america & japan by just under 400,000 this quarter without us knowing Decembers NPD results yet, & i would be significantly surprised if they weren't up again this month. Between December's NPD & all of Oct-Dec in Europe Sony only needs to be up by another 300,000 from last year to reach 7 million shipped. That's not how the relationship between sales and shipments necessarily works, but they should be around 7 million either way, give of take half a million. Compared to 2009, Oct-Nov NPD numbers are slightly higher (1030k in 2009, 1151k this year) and they managed to ship 6.5 million back then.
EDIT: Beaten.

What plug-in do I need to watch that 2004 video? Firefox isn't finding anything.

Well what i'm saying is i think they will ship over 7 million and 7.5 million isn't impossible either. We'll have to wait & see, there won't be much difference between the two for this calender year in terms of shipments. Although something that hasn't been mentioned is microsoft had to overship in Q1 of this year to make up for undershipping in Q4 of last year, there silly mistake from 2010 could end up 'winning' them 2011.I dont think we are disagreeing. I think they will ship around 7 Million for the quarter but they need 7.5+ to pass the 360 for the year.
Who the hell is buying all dem Kinects?! 18 million suckers.
People have had fun with it and want their own?Why did anyone even buy a kinect?
