MSI's next Claw handheld is no longer limited to renders and retail listings. The Claw 8 EX AI+ has now appeared in real hands-on photos from Taipei, with MSI also showing the mainboard built around Intel's new Arc G3 Extreme processor for gaming handhelds.

The new handheld is based on Intel's Panther Lake-derived Arc G3 Extreme chip. Intel lists this processor with 14 CPU cores, including 2 P-Cores, 8 E-Cores and 4 LP E-Cores. It also has Arc B390 graphics with 12 Xe3 cores, a 4.7 GHz maximum CPU clock, LPDDR5X-8533 support, 25W base power and up to 80W maximum turbo power.

Very interested to see how this performs vs AMD chips. And how much they're going for open box in 2027.

I think it's better perf per dollar than steam deck, if 1500 for handheld isnt an issue

Also it's probably niche use case but price could be more digestible if use case mixed desktop dock and handheld gaming. Basically replacement for laptop

The purple looks dumb, but otherwise looks like a damn good handheld. Had it not been for last week's Steam Deck price increase, the value proposition on this would look a lot different.

The confirmed configuration includes Arc G3 Extreme, 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB SSD, an 8-inch 1920×1200 120Hz touchscreen and an 80Wh battery.

If it had an OLED screen it'd be perfect.

If this had an OLED I might have bought one for $1,500.

Most games I play on a handheld run fine on Steam Deck and would look better on that screen.

The price is high, but if you look at cost for G3 Extreme laptops, than $1500 for 32GB/1TB is to be expected and even a bit less than I thought it would launch at.

No OLED though is kind of iffy considering the price.

I have the previous model its the best handheld in terms of power and display (there is a tool called tooth n claw that lets you adjust saturation, you can get it surprisiingly close to OLED) this one looks very good performance wise but cost looks prohibitive.

The ergonomics were the biggest issue on the first, this looks much better.

That's how I've been using handhelds for the past 3 years.
I bought one for similar price last April too, but with Oled, 4tb storage and 64gb of ram. It's crazy how bad the prices have gotten now.

For those of us outside US, how much would such notebook cost? Prices down here are insanely high.

My gaming budget might be in trouble. I saw that price and didn't even cringe. 😲
For me, $1500+ is at the point where that budget/money will go somewhere else.

I got Lenovo Go S Z1E last year for under $600. Paying $900 more for 30% more performance is a dubious proposition. And it even doesn't have damn OLED on top of that.

Might as well hold on to Go S l, sell my Steam Deck OLED and use that money for 6080 when that launches in 2027/2028. Or iPhone Fold. Or a new TV.

It's just this is becoming so niche at the $1500+ price the audience is going to shrink quite a bit from already niche audience.

I jumped on that same deal for the Go and not sure I am ready to jump on this MSI handheld. The fact that I was not put off by the price of the MSI surprises me. I am starting to adjust to the new prices in the industry and that is not a good sign for my gaming budget.

The Legion Go 2 at it's 1,350 price came to 1480 wit tax and next day shipping. I kinda want an eGPU and have been using it as a laptop/desktop replacement while I'm away from my desktop. I'd buy another one at that price but I'd want 60+ CUs. I almost regretted it when the Next 2 was announced but I don't want a 1440p screen on a handheld just yet.

This niche sector of our hobby (which was gaining a lot of momentum) is officially dead at these prices, man.

Totally sucks.

They seem to go around $2K right now. There are sales and I think Acer has a version for $1800ish as well. Add tax to this depending on the state (0 to 11%).
Around that. You will have much better perf with 358H models as its fat arc b370, intel 388h has b390

DarkShadowXI DarkShadowXI its. Not plenty people will buy it, plenty people still also looking around deals and 2nd hand markets. All this handheld market still has momentum. Acer is jumping in game with new intel chips and theres supposed to be refresh of Ally X too

It's terrible. The only hope we have is if ASUS keeps 599.99 for the base and 999.99 for the high end. I wish we'd have gotten a leak from someone on XA and XAX sales numbers.

No touch pad for mouse pointer, why?

I love trackpads but I think they are niche to most people. It's possible future revisions might include trackpads in the future.

How is it?
Fantastic. Went from SD Oled to it just wanting more power. Its kinda chunky, so bit more hefty to use. Had to get used to size, but the power, nice big beautiful screen and even that one trackpad has kept me happy since I keep making custom dial inputs for emulators like save states etc. Been running it with bazzite too since day 0 with all my transferred data backups etc to it. Everything just runs and looks better.

The need to focus on the Dock for marketing because this puppy is basically a Steam Machine with that Intel chip. I think that changes the value prop if you can get your head around it and have a need for it.

They must still be selling or else they wouldn't make them. It's like the high end laptop market. Who is buying $3k laptops? I have no idea but people must be buying them
$3K laptop is a lot less surprising as that usually goes to folks without a gaming desktop.

Most folks who buy handhelds already will have a desktop or laptop gaming PC.

If it has Thunderbolt 5 (for external GPUs) it sounds like a pretty good option for people wanting a powerful hybrid.

Still overpriced, but that's true for all devices needing RAM and SSDs.

These handhelds have truly become capable of being full desktop replacements, makes SFF PCs lose some of their appeal to me, as these are more useful and self-powered. Unfortunately, the prices are also very SFF PC-esque as well, the days of getting better and better $319 Steam Deck price reduced handhelds have gone.

him saying in the interview that they are now "Nvidia Compliant" is both promising... but also hilariously telling that basically DX12 ultimate support isn't even enough anymore due to how dominant Nvidia is and everyone following them

1500 here kinda gets you a secondary living room console/PC with the dock, and then all the usual handheld PC uses. For me this is the most interesting non-Steam Deck just because it blew past what I thought was reasonably expected performance and IMO for the controllers bigger is better and this one looks big. Best form factor so far imo. 32GB is the game changer on this for me. And just how excited Tom is about it.

How good is hardware XeSS these days?

My dream handheld would have x86 8 core CPU with a 96+CU GPU. I want my 7900xtx/7950x/32GB desktop to get relegated to server duty. I'll settle for less I imagine.

I mean, I already use XeSS over FSR on my AMD cards on games that support it. Same perf with better image stability / less artifacting.

$1500 eh? Smells like intel Subsidization job, like MS with XBox Ally X...

If everyone else charges $1900 or more, we'll know for sure. LOL

I'm kinda with you dude. I wanna see how this performs docked.
