Looking back I'm starting to think it was somewhat planned. Right when Kanye was up there the cameras immediately focused on Beyonce. How would they know to do that? I think Taylor must not have been in on it but Kanye was probably 'encouraged' to do something like that from the producers.

The whole thing was hilarious.
After Kanye's little stunt, Taylor Swift looked like a little innocent southern girl who had just been ravaged by an angry black man. :lol Then MTV basically played her off the stage with the Tracy Morgan/Enimem skit. :lol
Yeah yeah, Kanye was a dick. But I think Swift took it a little too personally and was bit of a drama queen. Everybody inside and outside the industry knows Kanye West is crazy and does stupid things at award shows. That's his M.O. She should have just shrugged it off and finished her speech. Instead she pouted for about 3 hours until Beyonce gave her another chance.
Also, love him or hate him, Kanye West is a throwback rockstar. Now we're In a time where just about every mainstream artist has to be politically correct and appease the major conglomerates, it's refreshing to see an artist who isn't afraid to act out his raw emotions and say what's on his mind unfiltered. And yes, a lot of times it comes across as crazy and stupid. But that's how rockstars used to be in the 70s and 80s.
Basically Kanye had too much drink and went up on stage and said just about what everybody else was thinking. Of course it wasn't classy. Rockstars aren't suppose to be classy. That's for Divas to do like Beyonce.

The tip-off that it was planned was actually what followed... Swift had an elaborate production number immediately following the Kanye incident, which MTV would not have risked jeopardizing. If it was real, who would've known how she'd react? Would she be able to go through with the performance? She had to be in on it.PSGames said:
And then you have the Beyonce moment at the end, when she "spontaneously" does the right thing and Swift is just waiting with the perfect entrance and line for her make-up acceptance speech. At this point, it was really obvious.

Seriously, this isn't like the Eminem/Bruno thing. We knew that was fake before the show was even over with as the producers came out and said it was set up. No such thing has happened with this. It's just people hoping that it's fake.

Huh, no.
As someone else already mentioned, Kanye West has been influential in a lot of other artist's careers, not just his. He's probably the most prominent and critically acclaimed mainstream hip-hop artist of this decade. He's going to be remembered as one of the major faces of hip-hop in the '00s despite his antics.
Taylor Swift is talented and cute, but she's probably just this year's Carrie Underwood or other young pop/country star. She hasn't shown yet that she'll have any real staying power beyond a couple of years. Even the song she was nominated for was fairly pedestrian.
Kanye is a douche. But he's one of the very few mainstream hip-hop artists who actually raps about the full spectrum of his life not just "In da Club" and "Gangsta" garbage. It's why he's still popular despite doing something stupid without fail almost every year.

Writing and producing your own stuff, taking care of business deals and tour arrangements yourself and starting the career on the ground floor, as a songwriter for other people, usually points at someone who won't be a flash in the pan. She loves what she does and there's no reason to think she won't sell enough records to keep on doing it as long as she wants.
