:(

This hurts.

After 2016, I think almost all of my heroes are gone.

RIP GOAT. Your suffering has ended. Thank you for the memories and fighting this disease for all these years.

It's so depressing..as I get older all of the great people's names who I heard of in my childhood growing up are going to eventually die off like this. I don't want to let go of the past, I don't want new legends made, I don't care about new celebrities, I just want it to always forever be the people who I remember growing up. What am I even writing, I'm so sad =(

Terribly sad news. Like others said he's the sort of athlete you'll never find today, not just for his prowess or showmanship.

jesus fucking christ at that gif. at first I was wondering why someone would post a gif of Ali getting his face smashed. Took a closer look and he dodged all that shit. Just wow.

He was practically a real life anime character. It's unreal how fast he was in his prime.

RIP to a LEGEND truly the greatest of all time. That pic though man siiiiigh why do you do this :(

FUCK YOU 2016

Boxing? Sports never will. Imagine an athlete today giving up their career and millions of dollars in their athletic prime out of a pure moral stance? The way sports are viewed have changed too much for anyone to ever have the impact Ali had. There was a lot he did that always rubbed me the wrong way (specifically the stuff with Frazier) but he was absolutely unique in every way.

There are plenty of guys that will take a stance(right or wrong) over something but Ali probably gave up more than anyone prior.

Off the top of my head:

Koufax refused to pitch on the Sabbath
Athletes protest the existence of Israel in sports boycotts
Had the NBA comish not stepped in with the clippers a few years ago I think you would have seen some players walk out of the finals
Pat Tillman ending his career to join the military

Guys still do it but few are willing to give up the kind of money Ali gave up.

I literally just bought a Muhammad Ali "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" hoody from roots of fight not 3 days ago. Unbelievable.

Those mother fuckers are about to sell out in 5 seconds

It's crazy when you think about the political and sports climate Ali came up in. This was a time when most athletes (especially the black ones) were seen and not heard. People just wanted them to tip their cap and smile, maybe do a cigarette commercial or two, and here comes this 22 year old who is unapologetically brash, loud and black. Not afraid to tell everyone how great he was. Not afraid to trash talk an opponent and anyone else who doubted him. A guy like him would catch hell today, imagine doing it in the middle of the civil rights era? The balls it took. He and Jackie Robinson are the two most important athletes in the history of this country, easily, and nobody will ever come close.

The greatest showman to ever participate in a sport and one of the top two or three greatest boxers to ever lace up the gloves. Not only that, but his social stances helped define a generation. Rest in peace.

Yes, RIP to a true GOAT in every sense of the phrase
