Murder on the Orient Express Trailer #1

Why on earth have they given Poirot, he of the small waxed moustache turned up neatly at both ends, something that looks like it's fallen off of a WW1 Austrian general?

And why on earth is his last line in the trailer something that sounds like it's come out of a Heineken advert?

There are already two excellent adaptations of MotOE. This looks both wrong and cack-handed.

Didnt even know Agatha Christie wrote it till this thread. Don't know anything about the story besides the general premise

also if I was adapting a mystery novel like this the first thing I would do is consider if I could reasonably change who the murderer is.

Looks fine. And then Imagine Dragons hits for no reason.

spoilers if you haven't read the book:
Apparently Depp is cast as Mr. Rachett, which would make him the victim, if that sways you at all.

He wasn't listed when they panned down the carriage, so it's likely

The best thing to come out of this movie will be those Josh Gad instagram videos where he grills Daisy Ridley about Star Wars in his trailer.

That cast is incredible. I hope it's good.

Glad to see Daisy Ridley in another film.

The song at the end was...a bad idea. Good lord.

1: Oh my god Poirot is my favorite detective series ever, I don't think this will match Suchet though

2: Wait but that CAST holy shit

I really hope that shot with Poirot walking down the hallway is included in the film, and that the rest of the direction and cinematography is well done. I'm a big Christie fan and while the Suchet version is still great, I also hope this one turns out to be good. This version has an all star cast, though the Suchet one is no slouch (Toby Jones as Ratchett as well as Jessica Chastain).

Was hoping for Depp as Detective Mordecai at the end.

Mordecai 2: Electric Boogaloo

The cast is really the thing about this that makes me excited.

I'm not turned off by it, I just don't like the song choice.

Really really like the style idea of having what they are next to the cast members, I hope that is in the film, but used more throughout it.

The murderer is the most memorable thing about Murder on the Orient Express. There are far better Poirot stories which haven't been done to death.

It's been adapted multiple times and they usually play it straight, though the game went off-kilter with it a bit (but it also had you play a new character, not Poirot)

I hope they do Death on the Nile, I loved that one.

Since they started with this one, I don't think they're gonna do any others

It's hard for me to see Branagh as Poirot, but it could be cool. The choice of music doesn't give confidence but it'd be a peculiar day in hell before Imagine Dragons were on the OST of a Poirot movie.

Even with this trailer being Meh, this movie is still in my top 5 most anticipated this year.

I can't wait to see it.

Need more Agatha Christie murder mysteries adapted well.

Which intern's idea was that. Srsly.

Still GOAT

Was watching it all the time.

Yep. No one is likely going to surpass Suchet. At the very least, I can't imagine anyone else actually doing the entire Poirot repertoire like he did.

That said, Murder on the Orient Express is perhaps one of my least favorite Poirot stories just because it bends his character to make the ending fit (not as much as the final story, I suppose.) They certainly assembled a pretty crazy cast (and Branagh's accent isn't great, but it isn't painful) so it might still be an interesting watch.

Yep. But such is Hollywood—ignore the better but lesser known stories in front of you to adapt X for the Nth time.

Usually marketing makes those and the film crew has almost no control over the trailers. Branagh's movies are very often slow very well thought out movies. I like his Shakespeare work very much.

Fuck Johnny Depp

this looks generic.

wtf with the Imagine Dragons?

yeah, instant turn-off for me... (i audibly groaned at the end of (2016 movie)
Fantastic Beasts
)

But it looks like he's gonna be the corpse.
And (haven't read the book) most likely - twist! - alive the entire time. They're not gonna waste him on a part that gets killed off almost instantly.

Come to think of it, him being the corpse would be even worse, because then we'd get flashbacks over flashbacks of every single character interacting with the victim.....

...

Ugh, the tone of that trailer is all off. It's a whodunit not a thriller, come on.

The acting seemed a little stiff, too. We'll see. I really like the book and the classic version of the film, so I'll probably give it a chance...but...not expecting anything that great.

I would love to see a Roger Ackroyd adaptation but its probably well known enough that all the buzz going into it would be about the murderer and people wouldn't be surprised

GAF is a strange pulse to put my finger on sometimes, I thought this looked neat and half expected GAF to agree.

Much to learn I still have.

Murdering the Johnny Depp character in the first act of the film is probably the best avenue to take.

It looked fine to me. I think people are getting bothered by the song, because there's not much else to judge here.

Also made the very underrated Cinderella Remake, which was pretty good.

As do I. I grew up watching his Henry V. (Also, Dead Again is criminally under-rated.)

My expectation is the song / that approach is going to be confined to the trailers. Which is unfortunate, as it really left a sour note at the end of what I thought was a good trailer.

Ugh, the introduction of Poirot is pretty horrible. The moustache and the "I'm the greatest" line don't fit the character at all.

I'll probably see it. Cast and direction looks good and I usually enjoy adaptations of old mysteries. Also it's a mystery that doesn't involve Sherlock Holmes so, yeah. That's got my support at least.

I always thought Poirot to be arrogant as all hell

Like I remember he would get super salty when people didn't know who he was

Yeah I'll probably see this but the trailer is...hmmm

Then again they do have to deal with the problem that your average movie going audience has no idea who Poirot is probably

Wrong. :P

I will say this, Murder on the Orient express has one of the greatest twists I have ever seen in any film or book. It is an absolute blinder.

So even if you dont feel like watching this one, you should check out the older one.

But it does?
