Last time I was at his house he had a huge tube tv. I asked him what it was and he said it was a Sony XBR 450. It's a 36" CRT HDTV. Now I did some checking and could not find any info on it in regards to 720p. Now, he wants to play Resistance. My PS3s are both updated with this week's firmware. If I take either to his place, will Resistance bring it down to 480p or play at 1080i which his tv does support? If so, does it look horrendous on a tube tv? This kid is bugging me about playing Resistance.

Just bring it over and give it a try. It will display the game no matter what.

I don't think there are CRTs that can display 720p anyway.

Nope, only 480i/p & 1080i. Google is your friend. It will look as good as any 480p game.

This TV accepts 720p signals, so it'll scale the 720p to 1080i.
