The Manos one has already been mentioned, but the short with it, "Hired! Part II" has some hilarious moments as well.

Nothing beat the days of it being a new concept, and my sis bringing over tapes to watch she'd recorded off cable. I remember one being extremely weird, I think it was Jack Frost, and so funny that at the time I watched it, I sprayed some pop at one point because I was in the middle of drinking it, and almost did it again a second time later.

The short on Cheating was hilarious.

There's also one ep/movie that involved a monkey toy. Whenever it clashed its cymbals together something bad would happen. Loved that one.

EDIT: Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders. That's the one.

And Mike Nelson still regularly records MST3K-style audio commentaries for classic films on DVD (Night of the Living Dead, Reefer Madness, Carnival of Souls).
Has anyone listened to these? I totally love Mike Nelson's Movie Megacheese and Mind Over Matters books.

Yeah, in the era of cheap reality TV, a show like MST3K would be too tough to greenlight.
Does anyone know what sort of budget the show actually ran on? I know they didn't exactly go overboard on sets and special effects, but I have very little frame of reference for how much the cast/crew were getting, as well as the rights to the old movies. Seems like they could get a decent season in for the price of an episode or two of a big budget sci-fi show.

"Jack Frost opened fire on a stand of willows today."

Nobody's mentioned it yet but, "The Incredibly Strange Creatures That Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies" is a classic. Also Parts:The Clonus Horror, Werewolf and Hobgoblins were great. Hangar 18 (a KTMA episode!) is actually pretty good too.

Yeah, Parts: The Clonus Horror is another great one ("I like mittens!"), and seems to be the primary source material for The Island.
