Narcissa Wright appreciation thread

I have a lot of respect for Narcissa. I have watched her streams for quite a few years now and even spoke with her on Skype once during one of her streams. She was the first speedrunner I have ever watched.

Wow, that is messed up what she's having to go through.

Many people who lose their money fall into a suicidal pit so Narcissa is not alone in this struggle, but many of those were able to get out of it by seeking help so really hope she sees the worth in living.

I really hope she pulls through. There are monsters on Twitter (and on the web in general) but I hope she can see that a lot of people support her and care.
Depression is hard enough on its own, but with harrassment on top of that, she's gonna need a lot of strength, and support from friends/family (I hope she has close friends and relatives to talk to...).

That OoT speedrun is the only speedrun I've ever watched start to finish

A phenomenal achievement

Kudos and hugs to Narcissa!

I have a lot of respect and appreciation for her. Her early speedruns, especially with stuff like the all dungeons OOT and other early OOT categories were basically what got me into watching speedruns. The level of commentary even while playing the game was simply on an entirely different level compared to anything I had ever seen before, and is still pretty amazing even compared to the improved speedrunning community today. There are few others who could play at such a while level while still providing insightful and interesting commentary that appealed both to absolute newcomers and people who had watched runs for years. Despite what all of these assholes and monsters are saying to try to bring her down, I hope she realizes that she has been an inspiration to a ton of people, both in the speedrunning community and in general life. We're all pulling for you to make it through this mess, Narcissa!

I've gone through a lot of transphobia, and it's so damn easy to think about suicide in the darkest hours. I'm passing the word of this to my other contacts.

She's a big part of why I got into speedruns and occasionally run myself. Both her inspiring runs and work on SRL and the community.

She was always one of my favorite streamers ... The time she made a stream on Wind Waker HD midnight release and all went wrong with the download it was awesome !

Her Nintendo Championship was AWESOME, her AGDQ appearances were awesome and the battles between Trihex and her with Mario Maker leves is always awesome

I remember the first time seeing that speed run that warped her from Gohma to the crumbling tower at the end. And then she was able to do that sword-cut jump that makes you fall through the tower and come out near the bottom. I remember the tension involved for her then having to hold her nerve for the rest of it (which is comparatively easy, but it's gone wrong from there before). So fun to watch, and nobody believed OoT could be done in a time like that previously. I remember afterwards it was like "yup that's a wrap, OoT is done now".

Let's not forget the fact Narcissa was once regularly and consistently described as one of, if not THE best Zelda main in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Wii U, getting decent results with a character considered low tier in both games (but especially Melee)!

http://youtu.be/-tWPogKxoZE

Hand issues plague a lot of Melee players so it's unfortunate that we'll likely not see much of her Melee Zelda anymore :(

Oh she's awesome, I've had so much fun with the Wind Waker speedrun tricks I learned from her. I'm not really into speedrunning myself, I just played around with it for fun. I'm really amazed at how someone could discover tricks like that. Seeing such a pro do their thing is really inspiring.

Her Nintendo World Championships 2015 comeback to even get into position to win was amazing to watch, I was hoping she would win from the start since she was the only person I knew competing. That Balloon Trip win was a nail biter

I used to watch her streams and thought she was one of the most talented and entertaining people on that site. I don't watch Twitch much right now but it's a damn loss if she quits.

I hope you pull it through, Narcissa :-3

I think some of her runs played a huge part in the speedrunning popularity boom that's happening today, including the millions of dollars that the AGDQ runs have brought in over the past few years. Wouldn't be possible if speedrunning hadn't gotten as big as it has.

Agree, Narcissa, Trihex and siglemic in particular have been incredibily influencal in this area, those three seem to have been the catalyst to make things like AGDQ more mainstream.

Who are the names people first look for when the AGDQ schedule gets released? It's always Narcissa, Siglemic and Trihex.

I havnt personally watched much of your stuff but I have seen an ocarena of time play through and I was rooting for you in the Nintendo world championship. Transitioning is a big life change that is hard to handle. People fear what they don't understand. I know it's hard but please don't let other people's fear rule your life.

I'm sure your already aware of this but the lead singer/guitarist of the band against me went through a male to female transition and wrote an album about it called Transgender Disphoria Blues. It might help you to hear the stories of someone else who has also gone through a public transition.

Life gets better. I promise.

I've watched her live-narrated OoT speedrun multiple times and it always leaves me in awe. I have also been blown away by some of her best runs and her explanation videos. All are probably my favorite content from one of my favorite games. I give her thanks for these great experiences.

There was an interview with her recently and the issue of her hands came up, and I unconsciously started rubbing my knuckles.

I want her hands to be okay. Gaming shouldn't debilitate us.

Unfortunately, it happens to people who play games as much as a speedrunner does. Plus factor in some of the frame perfect inputs/inputs per second... it takes its toll. She is also a Melee player, which is a notoriously rough game on the hands/fingers.

I've been a speedrunning fan for several years now, and I can definitively say that the Zelda OOT run is the best speedrun I've ever seen, for a couple of different reasons.

- The run is so incredibly optimized...such hard work and YEARS of practice
- It was a perfect storm of impossible skill and fortunate RNG
- The commentary explaining the run in the YouTube video is so perfect. It hooks someone experienced with the run, but really educates anyone that's either never seen a speedrun at all, or at least has never seen a Zelda OOT run.

Narcissa, you're a pillar of the speedrunning community, but more importantly, you seem like a really kind, thoughtful, and inspiring person. And you just seem so passionate and dedicated to everything you do.

I sincerely hope things turn around for you soon. This morning's sunrise does not define itself by last night's sunset.

This woman is a legend of her community. Frak the haters, i'm behind her 100%.

Always a pleasure to watch her do what she does, as she does it better then most anyone i've had the pleasure of watching.

I just wanted to add my voice here in case she reads this. I don't really watch Twitch, but I truly appreciate the effort these streamers put towards their craft.

Putting yourself in the spotlight of the internet is a thing I don't think I would have the courage to do.

I hope that Narcissa finds the peace that she needs away from these asshats and that she knows that she did nothing wrong.

Sending love her way

I started watching Narcissa when she streamed OoT MST speedruns. Some of my favorite streams were her runs of OoT and WW. I always appreciated the well-detailed explanations and showmanship for some of the more difficult speedrunning tricks in these games. Overall an incredible person, a great artist, and a huge inspiration for me and so many others.

I always looked forward to her speedruns at GDQ when she attended and it was always a blast to watch!

I particularly enjoyed watching her beat OoT on the iQue of all things. With the iQue being as obscure as it is but then finding out its great for speedrunning, that was a pretty cool experience!

Watching her at NWC was also fun. When the hosts were complimenting how she was always smiling, well that made me smile too!

Admittedly, I don't keep up with streamers outside of GDQ so I rarely watched her outside of events but I understand she is a very enthuthiastic Mario Maker creator and I think thats super rad!

Your OOT runs were always tons of fun to watch and inspired me to try to learn to speedrun a few games. Thanks Narcissa!

Narcissa, if you're reading this: Just keep being you.

I know this thread isn't about the bullies, but it can't be said enough: They're just insecure people hiding behind a veil of anonymity. They lack context and perspective. They know what you look like and sound like, but they don't really know you. They don't understand the value of kindness. But many others do. Many people value the passion, and compassion, you bring to the world.

So keep doing what you do, for your own enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. Be strong and others will be inspired by your strength, just as they're already inspired by your talent and skill in our favorite hobby. You make our community a better place.

I do not know Narcissa, but after having read what happened to her earlier, I 100% support this thread and her decision to live her life as she chooses.

I hope she understands that while hate may be the loudest voice in the room, it is not the only voice.

Castlevania 64 runs were always my favorite to watch. I fully support her in whatever she decides to do for always being such a funny, informative and nice person.

Never seen her work as it wouldn't be games I watch.

Still sad to loose someone from the community that is skilled and passionate.

Can't imagine being that famous. I run a YouTube channel and most of my stuff was faggot/gay/tranny....true enough on the names, but intent still sucked and we had almost no followers lol.

I hope the love she gets helps her :)

My thought process seeing this thread:

"Who the hell is Narcissa Wright? How has she earned our support?"

*clicks, reads*

"Speedrunning? That's cool, I guess. Never heard of her, though."

*founder of this thing and that thing, known for this and that*

"Huh? Formerly Cosmo... OHHHH!"

Ricky Ortiz was a gay fighting game player for like 20 years. Now she's a trans fighting game player. I would look towards her for guidance if possible. @HelloKittyRicky

God yes. Have to respect someone who'd replay that game over and over. I couldn't get through it once. Many kudos to her.

I was a member of her old Soulcalibur 3 community, but never made the connection between the online name she used back then and the celebrity she became since then until Nintendo World. Been casually following her since and it pains me to see how things have developed recently.

I've never interacted with you directly since sc3.us, but I remember your warm response to my first post there, with timings on how to do Setsuka's tricky 1A:A:A. I hope you can find warmth and strength.

Just wanted to show my support for Narcissa Wright. Incredible contributions to the community. Her speedruns have been a great source of entertainment and awe for me. Don't let the haters get you down. A lot of people (including me) care about you!

I've only watched a couple of videos from her (including most of her record breaking run) but I have a friend who is pretty big fan. I got to hear a lot of rave reviews from him (and thats why I watched the vids in the first place tho speedrunning isn't as much my thing)

@HelloKittyRicky

err you're off by a letter. that goes to some guy named david denis. hers should be with an 'i' at the end instead of 'y'
