Really, there's a lot of anime character that doesn't look Japanese. Naruto is one of them.
I loved how much the producers hid behind the old "we're making it more faithful to the source material" excuse, only for the final film to be beat for beat with Park Chan-wook's adaptation.

Why do japanese live action adaptations always make everything super dirty ?
It was like that for both the promos of atack on titan and rurouni kenshin =P

The plotline with the Land of Waves took a relatively scant fourteen episodes in the anime adaptation, and this was prior to Filler being such a large component of the series. But its probably the only thing you could really cover in the time without losing fairly substantial side stuff, or being too far into the story to make any sense to connect with Naruto's origins. Otherwise it would have to be an adaptation that goes fairly off the rails, which I'm pretty sure most of the fanbase wouldn't sign up for.

Pretty much. This movie might benefit greatly by just keeping the colorful, magical ninjas and nothing else.
A faithful-ish Hollywood adaption of Naruto just won't work.
The difference is is that Naruto is in a world where there are different ethnicities, not like Japan where you don't run into various races on the reg. Narutos characteristics are his blonde hair and blue eyes since his father and mother weren't originally descendants of Konoha for the most part. He stuck out thereHate this idea. But who am I kidding. Dragonball Evolution and The Last Airbender is a thing.
I have no issue with having Asian characters, but Naruto, the Elric bros etc aren't Japanese

There were a couple interesting articles on this back in the day.
At the end of the day it really depends on what the artist is intending these characters to look like, I suppose, but for the most part, the hyper-stylized anime character is like a race of their own lol.

If they are able to translate the action (Naruto biggest quality) to live action, it could be pretty damn fun.
This almost hooked me on the show, almost. But my inner dragon ball fanboy wouldn't let me at the time.

Hinata has blue hair?i thought it was black. I saw the Hyuuga clan as the Chinese faction in Konoha. The Uchiha and Senju were Japanese etc.
Also, anime movies done by risk and diversity-averse Hollywood? A first time director? Only think sorta kinda looking up for this movie is Avi Arad's involvement. Don't even care that Kishimoto is involved; remember that Toriyama had input on Evolution.

Well it's at least a better idea than most animes, Naruto lives in a world with multiple countries and a multitude of ethnicities so it can work in Hollywood.

I'm sure a dedicated white fan in my generation has named their poor baby Uzumaki Naruto.
I also don't know any black people named Killer A or Killer B
Focus on the Chunin Exams and end it where they take down Orochimaru's Sound Five.
Considering how seriously America takes its anime I wouldn't be surprised if there are more white dudes named 'Uzumaki Naruto' than Japanese dudes.

Yeah, it wouldn't bother me if Naruto was white because of the world setting. Characters based on classic Japanese figures (like Sasuke) should be Japanese though.

Yes I didn't mean naruto characters as a whole would all be white. Just the specific character of Naruto
The first movie would cover the backstory of the nine tailed fox, Naruto beginning, team five, first mission against zabuza and ending with that arc and teaser of the chuunin exams
2nd movie would be chuunin exams up until the final tournament.
3rd movie would be the end of the tournament, then maybe finding jiraiya and Tsunade
4th would be the Sasuke retrieval arc

That's way too much for a single movie to cover. That's like three movies worth of plot right there.
Doing the Zabuza story would be the most logical place for a movie to start with, and move on to the Chuunin Exams for a sequel if the movie did well.

Still waiting for the live action One Piece or Jojo Hollywood films. I would be genuinely interested in seeing what they would end up being.
I've honestly dreamt of a long running series of Hunter x Hunter films. Would never be done justice, but it's still nice to dream.
I think Zabuza's story, in its entirety, is skippable. The only purpose it serves is to unify the team against a common threat and present Naruto as not just a goof, and my thinking is that you could probably do that without taking the narrative side-step Zabuza's story was.
I'm also thinking that the appeal of the the franchise to a movie studio would be in the Hunger Games-like scenario of the Chunin Exam, rather than actually in adapting the story of Naruto.
