Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is more of a battle collection with bonuses than a fully-fledged new installment. The story mode only covers about a quarter of the fights from Naruto to the end of the Shippuden saga and the "Special Story" mode has too many filler fights that drag it out. But the fun and varied battles with the immense number of characters, the great visuals and finally 60fps make the actual gameplay a pleasure. Nevertheless, it can only be recommended to hardened Naruto fans.

However, it's a difficult title to position and maybe it's even better to look for the Trilogy or Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 to get a better and bigger Naruto experience. The new characters are the only real curiosity in an all-too-familiar package.

Although there are no major innovations, fans and, of course, all those who want to become fans can pick it up without hesitation thanks to the large roster, two story campaigns and beginner-friendly action gameplay.

That said, this is still an impressively comprehensive anime fighter; the team-based gameplay holds up, the new modes are solid overall, and sheer size of the character roster is hard to ignore.
