Natal struggles to see Black people?

michael-jackson.jpg

Now I understand.

The EyeToy (on PS2 at least) has the same problem. It's due to light intensity and the difference in how light reacts with the different skin tones (I think). It doesn't prevent anyone with darker skin tones from playing but it did make it more difficult for the game to pick up motion buffer differences. With Natals added depth buffer and likely higher spec camera I would guess that this can be solved in time for release.

Everyone should check this out and then shut up. N'Gai should shut up. What a god damn storm in a milk glass. It's not even true.

I actually think the video proves his point. Does that video show successful game play and interaction to you? Really? The only game play shots are of people going in a straight line or losing control. Most of the actually video is just shots of celebs.

Do people think N'Gai is lying, and part of a conspiracy?

In a room with a nice all white background, I doubt it would be hard to distinguish anybody those kind of conditions, except for an albino maybe?

Or me, I am white as a piece of paper. :lol

Haha no you can clearly see the first two both interacting without issue with the panned out shots. With SRL you can see his movements timed without issue.

lol

First thing I thought of was that vid of those celebrities playing.

Mind you, if it wasn't picking them up properly it would explain how they were doing so bad playing it :p

And how many of them ended up smashing into a wall at a 90 degree angle? LOL

Kidding aside, doesn't Natal use standard video as well as IR? The tracking happening on the hands in that bright light is not hard to track at all on a normal cam. Could it be he was playing in a dimmer setting, or he asked to drive with the lights off. In other words, where IR would have to properly kick in?

My guess is it was a glitch. But the concept is funny. Lighten up a bit. LOL

If N'Gai took too long trying to figure the Natal out, I wonder if he was asked to move to the back of the line.

should have quit while you were ahead with the "sold seperately but equally" line :D

Joking aside, if there is an issue, it's something they'll work out before they release the thing. Not that there won't be other issues, but this one - given it does exist - should be apparent enough to warrant correction.

So yeah, just funny for now.

Apparently at E3 it was actually predominantly or only using the rgb camera for the body tracking...

As funny as all the reaction is, it was probably just a glitch that happened to land on Ngai..nothing about the colour of his skin.

Well on top of being a completely incorrect thread again, ironically the natal team has being in consultation with handicapped and special needs gamers during the design of the product.

I thought N'Gai retired from video game journalism?

Are you saying black people are handicapped?

I would not characterize what is in this video as "interacting without issue."

I guess we just see things differently.

??

I understand the meaning based on the context, but can you explain where this phrase is derived from? Never heard it before. Where are you from?

I'm from Norway, we use "Storm in a milk glass" instead of "Storm in a teacup" I guess.

I guess so considering you can actually see his hand movements move on screen with him lol. The racing is all over the place to be sure, but that seems like more of control and speed issue than anything. I certainly would not want to race like this to be sure.

You can't be serious

I am talking about the fact they have sensitive to possible limitations of camera controlled games based on physical attributes and the idea that they would overlook skin color is so absurd and already proven wrong that this tread is ironic.

Yet they consulted no black people.

I could see some reflective property issues goin here. Is that what this is about?

Nobody knows, it's just presumption from the thread starter, who for some reason backed up his theory with a link about non-intrusive blood testing.

Seems like it.

My friend's been working on a way to measure the inside of ear canals with lasers. It's for the Air Force or some military branch, so they'll be able to easily make customized earplugs. Anyway, he's had this exact same issue. He explained it to me, and why I didn't totally understand it, I remember him bringing up melanin. Something about it makes some people's skin less reflective.
