Naughty Dog further teases space game?

I hope they don't do a third team. Some of the UC2 team was on TLoU, and based on how the games turned out, two teams meant less talent for UC3.

Amy's B team is quiet
Bend is quiet
The Last of Us team might be working on a sci fi game - Bruce mentioned he was starting work on a new ip

I don't think it had much to do with the talent. They admitted themselves that they shouldn't have announced a hard release date so far in advance. They ended up rushing the game which basically meant that the extra layer of polish that we've come to expect from Naughty Dog games was missing in places.

That said. I think a two team studio is basically the preferred set up.

This gif perfectly summarizes how I felt after reading the OP.

Uncharted 3 wasn't hurt by the two team set up at Naughty Dog. Naughty Dog admitted that they never should have set a release date in stone and it's something they'll never do again. From here on out, their games are finishes whenever they're finished.

A Mass Effect type game, done by ND and done in a 70's sci-fi fashion...Think i'll just dream of that while waiting for TLOU 2.

Uncharted though needs a rest

I'm just happy it's not another Uncharted. The games aren't bad but the team shouldn't limit themselves

200 people doesn't seem enough for 3 teams. They need to grow a bit more than that. Also I doubt they make Savage Starlight now, way too obvious. They are just trolling.

Agreed.

Linear story stuff in space is no fun. ND need to create a world and fill it with their awesome writing.

I've always thought ND had the writing talent of an old school RPG developer.

I think UC2 actually had a little longer development time than UC3, and it was the bigger leap from its predecessor. More time wouldn't have really changed the bad direction they took with some of the multiplayer stuff and priority on imitating UC2's set-pieces at the expense of story and gameplay.

I blame Justin Richmond. It's harsh and I know he has an account so he could see this but the guy will remain the one responsible for messing up Uncharted 2's multiplayer and Uncharted 3 to me.

I'm dissapointed that people don't trust Sony Bend to make something good if they get the next Uncharted. They weren't too different than Ready At Dawn with their work on the PSP. And sure the Vita Uncharted didn't touch the console versions but that was a given really wasn't it.

I still think talent played a big role. You have Neil Druckmann, the co-writer/lead of UC2, as the writer/director for TLoU. Then there's Bruce Straley, game director for UC2 then TLoU. And all the others but these are the ones that stand out. If these guys were on UC3 things probably would have been different, and I'm guessing better based on what they worked on. Perhaps even a release date wouldn't have been anounced.

With a studio of around 200 people it usually would work like this (could be wrong as I don't know their internal set up)

Main team A, bulk of staff of lets say 180 develops on project 1 (in this case TLOU)
Team B of core staff (say 20 ppl )work for a few years on concepts and develop early project 2 prototype

project 1 ships and bulk of team A move onto an already in development project 2 joining with Team B

at this point a core staff from team A ( 20 ppl) split off to develop project 3 while 2 is in full production.
and so on and so forth

In this model project 1= TLOU, project 2 = probably uncharted 4 and project 3= potential space game (at this stage with this model I would assume everything is concept/prototype and anything could happen)
For a studio of around 200, which is not quite big enough to have 2 full scale ''in full production'' aaa games, it allows work to continue and prototypes, so that when a game sips the next one isn't being started from scratch. If the studio is doing trips to space places I would assume this is some concepts for the project after the next one to launch.
This is all just guesswork, based on my past experience and I could be completely wrong though. ahaha

who's working on this game, the A team (Uncharted 2, The Last of Us) or the B team (Uncharted 3)?

This is just wrong. One team got 3.5 years to make a game and one got less than 2. They are both teams of equal skill. The Uncharted 2 team split evenly bewtween the two.

Amy Hennig taught Neil Druckman was the other half of the Uncharted 2 writing/directing team

That would still make it 5 titles in 8 years.

Time for something new before the series feels forced.

They made a new IP in the Last of Us already, I think its unreasonable to suggest they'll have ANOTHER new IP ready to launch next year. Its gonna be Uncharted next year and a New IP in 2015/2016 imo.

Nope. The new IP will be their next game.

Shut your mouth.
I would preorder the shit out of that game!

I mentally have whatever ND is working on pre-ordered

I would love a .. Last of Us in space type of game. A harsh universe, let us say a man and his daughter ( actual daughter this time ) or family are headed to another planet for whatever reason and they are attacked during warp and are knocked off track ( something along these lines ). They end up in the middle of space, their computers are knocked out, navigation offline, etc.

They have to find a way back home first off, so they have to begin exploring space around them, cooking up their own navigational paths, etc. They encounter danger, they are able to fly to and into the atmosphere and down into the cities of planets ( if life exists ), they can go down onto ancient worlds without any civilization ( think full world Jurassic Park ) to just explore for food or whatever.

I dunno, but something like this from Naughty Dog I could see as phenomenal. They could even make the whole thing into a musical! * insert laugh track *

But TLOU 2 would be awesome too.

So, basically ND is doing what they're best at...following trends. I shouldn't be at all surprised if mechs will play a big role in their new IP.

Trends? Sorry, I missed all those other sci-fi games indicating this is a current trend in video games. Could you bring me up to speed on this being a trend?

I'm starting to wonder if it is another studio working on Uncharted 4 - maybe as a collaboration with Naughty Dog (dedicating 30-50 ND employees). It stills seems as if it would be stretching them too thin, though.

Isn't there talks of Sony Bend making Uncharted 4?

Bend seem to be the obvious ones. I imagine Naughty Dog's name will still be slapped on of course but they'll have little involvement in the project. Probably like what MS is doing with Killer Instinct, using Rare to supervise Double Helix.

Has ND ever carried an IP from one generation to another?

No, but you can't really judge based on past generations.

Naughty Dog didn't want to continue Crash Bandicoot because the IP was completely out of their hands.

Jak and Daxter wasn't popular enough to justify continuing the franchise.

You've kind of brought up a good point. Most action games will follow action movies and there really aren't a lot of action tropes that are unexplored. I mean, action movies are more frequent than even annualized games and they've been around years longer than 3D action games...so....they got to the well way before game developers did.
