This quote from TR sums up what I think whenever I read about APUs:

They exist. I was one of them. But I only had this type of thinking for laptops since discrete GPUs on laptops are expensive and make them even hotter.

A cheap AMD APU/CPU with a good stand alone gaming GPU still works just fine. I'm not sure I could play PC games with just an APU though...
