Need For Speed - EA Access 10 hours trial is available for Download

Damn, lot of mixed opinions. Some people like it, some people hate it, some people like it then hate it :(
I have one question: how does the handling compare to NfS Rivals? I hated that game and already in this thread someone said about driving a tank :( Is it close to Rivals?

That is why EA Access is awesome. A good way to know for sure if a game clicks with you or not. I was in the beta and this game did not click with me at all. Maybe because I have played Forza Horizon 2 so much, but the car handling is so different that I could not get used to it at all. I hated the tacked on story and accompanying video. Just so bad.

Just not for me.

So is nothing is the whole story/campaign unlocked in the Trial? Haven't gotten to try it yet. But, was wondering if it was like BF Hardline where you only got to play 2 missions...

FH2 spoiled a lot of players.....still my favorite open world racer....it just needs a auto connecting free roam like TDU and it would be perfect.

NFS feels like a great reboot.....but after underground 2 and most wanted it feels like it lacks something

Things have gone flat. I should update my initial impressions, but sometimes evolving feelings count for something too.
I have now cancelled my pre order untill they patch in an AI fix for the final 15-20 races and fix their server side freezing/stuttering and sound drop outs. The further I get the worse the game becomes. It's amazing how much my opinion has changed in a matter of hours

Do we know the resolution on PS4? Surely higher since all Frostbite titles are higher res on PS4

They said they would disclose final resolution months ago and haven't, have they?

As the game progresses it feels exactly like rivals. You can get the exact handling. I believe this is the same engine too, numerous times I feel like im in rivals but just at night with better lighting
I actually got this feeling right away, and it has put me off quite a bit. Too many systems are too similar to what was in Rivals. The rubber banding AI is just awful, even early on, and that was one of the worst parts of Rivals as well. I have no idea why Ghost is so obsessed with crazy amounts of rubber banding. I don't need a tight race to have fun, and if anything the fact that upgrades never feel like they matter much because of the rubber banding makes it significantly less fun for me. If I drive well and upgrade the shot out of my car I should be able to destroy the AI, but instead it feels like you're being punished for doing well. I also feel like the game is going to get super repetitive and grindy like Rivals did. There just isn't a lot of variety to the actual gameplay, and that makes it a really hard sell in a world where The Crew and Forza Horizon 2 exist.

Lack of manual transmission sucks. Also unskippable cutscenes are meh. The tutorial is irritating since it pops up a black screen as I'm trying to drive. Other than that, it's fun. Not amazing and certainly not a full price purchase, but I can see myself loving it if I didn't have other things to play.

You can customise the handling of your car. Stick it about halfway between the centre and 'drift' and it feels exactly like Burnout.

You can skip cutscenes later in a game...

Let me translate:

"EA Access is making Playstation Now a less attractive service, so we rather skip it".
I don't see how it competes with PS Now. PS Now is a ton of last gen games. Access is all about current gen and DLC.

I think Playstation saw it as a conflict with PS+ and Games with Gold. It basically knocks all of EA's games out of the running for PS+ subscribers to get them free in the future, and in order to get them they have to pay yet another subscription to a publisher. If every publisher does this (if you say yes to EA you have to say yes to their competitors Ubisoft, Square, Activision, etc.) then to get all the free games we were getting like in later PS3 era, you would need to pay several subscriptions. LIVE and PS+ would have to offer only very select games and ones from their own publishing because every publisher decided to get their games from a subscription, it has to be their own subscription.

It just seems like a conflict for every publisher to get to offer their games on a separate new subscription while using the infrastructure of Sony and Microsoft, who had already been trying to offer those games as a variety to gamers. I can understand SONY saying 'why would we let you use our network to screw over the value of subscriptions we offer? letting publishers take their games into new separate subscriptions is a pricey mess for our customers'

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the tutorial text blacking out the screen (mid race!!) either. You can't pause so you just have bash B, missing the hint, to avoid crashing into a wall and slowing down

It's an online only multiplayer lobby game, like the previous Need for Speed (which also didn't allow pausing). You can't even start the game without EA being online.

I know but you can also play with the AI just like in Rivals. Rivals still didn't allow you to pause even in offline mode. Incredibly stupid and shows that the dev doesn't respect our time. I'm not gonna cut contact with everyone while playing video games, I need to pause sometimes. I need to take a piss, answer a call etc etc. Who the hell makes these decisions?

Yeah, even in offline mode you need a connection to start the game before you can go offline.

It's even crazier when in the game, because tutorials appear very often and black out the screen. So a cop will start following you and it blacks the screen to tell you how to loose the cops - during which you fly into a wall as there's no pause.

I just wish there were more racing events than drift. I don't like to drift, I don't want to do any drift events and I enjoy racing. >.>

Need for Speed Rivals was 1080p/30 FPS on both systems.

I believe the same was true for the beta of Need for Speed (2015).
Rivals was cross gen so it's an exception I guess

But pretty much everyone agrees there's no way it is 1080p on the Xbox One

I don't know. Rivals wasn't a great looking 1080p game on the system either.

I will say that NFS looks a bit "fuzzy" but I remember Rivals being the same way too.

Could you explain FH2 to me? Is there a "theme" it tries to tackle or is it just general racing? Is there an end game or objective to shoot for? I didn't really like the demo, but I've seen that there's a ton of stuff so now I'm interested.

OT: I think if you just want a street racing game, this game is fine. It's not without flaws, but I enjoyed my trial. You could probably beat it in 10-12hrs though.

Forza Horizon is just love of cars and scenery man. They have a big music focus too, and you're trying to be the king racer of the festival or whatever, but it's really about enjoying these cars against beautiful backdrops. It certainly beats always seeing them against the Nurburgring or Laguna Seca like every other game.

FH2 was easily my favorite XB1 game till Halo 5, and still probably top 5 for "current gen" games.

I still wanna try this game out, but I may just wait til after Christmas unless my friends pick it up.

Same here. I was really hoping there would be more racing. I enjoyed what I've played so far, but I think I'll cancel my preorder and wait for a massive price drop.

Started playing this. Those cutscenes are my jam man. Haters gonna hate, bruh, breh and every variant of it I heard already. This game is gonna be gud.

Graphics are fine but really dragged down by film grain which brings me to the point. Why? Film grain has no fucking place in a video game. Ugh.

Are there a lot of cheesy unskippable cutscenes and a huge emphasis on the EDM lifestyle stuff? Wasn't a big fan of that from the demo and wanted to chop my head off. I just want a decent racer.

Edit: Thanks Mongoose.

So I load this thing up, drive to the first objective and it will not trigger no matter how many times I get the prompt to pop up..... And now back to Halo 5

Nah, there's literally one cutscene in the beginning that I remember, and then they congratulate you after each tier of the campaign. They do that "Forza" thing where the game talks to you slowly and you can't skip whenever you do something new in a menu though, which I still hate.

But realistically, the game gets out of your way and lets you race and says congratulations when you win.

That's because people are so obsessed with resolution that they proclaim a game to be low resolution anytime it is blurry. Most of the blur in games these days comes from post processing effects and AA, not the resolution. There are a ton of post processing effects going on in NFS, so it is damn near impossible to tell what resolution it is just by looking at it and not having another version to directly compare it to. The game running at 1080p is still going to look really soft.

If you choose the "Play Alone" option from the menu, do you still need an EA account to play this game?
I kind of refuse to create the EA account because it's been linked to so many account hijackings and theft both on Xbox and PSN.

You are absolutely required to connect to their servers

EA has had two step verification for a while now. Enable it and do the same for your Microsoft account and you are pretty much safe.

Game looks really good on the Xbox. I don't know nor care what resolution it runs on, it plainly looks good. While I'm not a fan of chromatic abberation and whatever fancy filters devs are stuffing into games nowadays, I think it adds to the overall look.

HATE the rubberbanding. I'm not overly anal about this stuff, in fact I'm fine with a little rubberbanding in arcadey racers, but this game's implementation of it is particularly egregious. I'll take a corner a little slower (not even braking, I just don't have my pedal to the metal)and 3 cars just zoom right past me....da fuck?

Don't care about always online, but just like Rivals, you can't pause the fucking game. Probably a dealbreaker for me, as I have a 2-year old kid and I can't afford to just lose myself in games for hours on end.

Is the game volume really low for anyone else?

Having to turn up my headphones quite high and it's ear-piercing when the system pops an achievement or notification.
Yes!! Thought it was just me. My usual games are - 33 on my avr. This one I have to have on - 20

Did you do this for all races or just the drift ones? I did the other way, halfway between centre and grip... But it feels like shit. Is your way the way most people are doing it?

I fucking hate that. It's such a stupid way to do it. Also hate that you can't pause.

I did, for probably 5 minutes lol. I kept driving away and coming back and it would pop up but never trigger.

Were you facing the wrong way? It happened to me before. The first mission took a while to pop up but then I could RB and it worked.

Not the guy you quoted, but having your handling at/near max drift was good enough for most of the game. Some missions require you to have a perfect balance, but I was able to go through most of it with max drift.
