It's very good and I don't normally watch kyoani drivel.

I, for one, think Jojo part 3 - II was a pretty awful adaptation of a somewhat decent part of Jojo, a step down from first half.

What a horrible list, only 1 of my picks in top 10, blah..

Edit, ok, forgot about Soma and Owarimonogatari, but still blah.

No Garo?

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Especially since Gundam somehow made it on the list.

Glad Death Parade made it on though. Wish it was higher, but thatll do. OPM winning with Shirobako in second place is fine by me! Shokogeki was great too, so I'm glad its high up.

Never heard much of Sound!Euphorium, maybe I'll give it a try?

Yes, please give it a try. It'll give you the whole feeling of do you want to play casuals, or do you want to go out there, compete and win. At least that's how I interpreted it...

YES
Don't yet the art style or setting turn you off, give it a try.

Everyone keeps saying it was a weak year, but I really loved everything in my top 10.

Anyway, this list looks pretty good.

Reading those IBO reviews and comparing them to the most recent episodes is why I disagree with voting for shows that aren't complete.

I guess no one bothered to watch Fafner.

It got 8 votes! All of whom ranked it at within the top 3! If this were weighted by how many people actually watched a show, it'd be really good!
I just want it to get its deserved recognition.

Fuck yeah, SNAFU in Top 10. All I cared about. I also find it amusing that my Gundam entry was quoted when I read it and realized it was probably my most concise use of bros and hoes. And all that wasted time writing wonderful other entries too...

This is a damn solid list.

Shirobako getting the respect it deserves and Food Wars being top 5 aren't surprises to me but Haikyuu being finally acknowledged is huge. There was no way I was expecting the second season of a sports show to hit the top 10 when Haikyuu S1 didn't breach it last year. Decided not to vote this year because I dropped off regularly watching anime somewhere in the Spring but going from this year's pickings this seems like a really solid list.

Just a shame we didn't get anything seemingly medium defining in the way Ping Pong was though, feel like that's solidly above all of 2015's pickings.

If you count the female captain there were two even in 1st season !

I bothered with the 5 episodes of first season...

Huh, I'm indeed the only person who voted for Ghost in the Shell Arise in TV shows ...

The first half of original season 1 had to be some of the worst attempts at imitating Eva I've ever seen. Other than that it was a solid show, and I can only imagine that it's getting a lot of hate for looking like Gundam SEED with original mechs.

It's actually above OPM and Shirobako if we just took the average score xD

It's really unfortunate that the first half of the original Fafner doesn't hold up compared to the rest of the series and franchise.
I can only speak from my personal experience that I also nearly dropped it after 5 or 6 episodes, then came back to it because I heard how much better Exodus is (and also the latter half of it) and I can only say that I don't regret that one bit.

Not surprised OPM topped even though I don't care for it I'm clearly a minority opinion. Glad to see JoJo and Soma in the top 5 both deserved it even if Shard felt Soma wasn't an aoty contender :p

Only 8 votes? This makes me very sad.
The first half wasn't even that bad compared to many other shows that got more than 8 votes. And the second half was phenomenal.

I'm not surprised One Punch Man won, but by such a large margin? :( It's a decent show at best, but anime of the year? The positive elements of this show - of which there are a few to be sure - don't come together to create a good series, and it long outstays its welcome. Almost everyone's enamored by this show, and my friends and I (who all watched it together) just don't get it and were kinda awkwardly staring at each other throughout. I mean, at some point, everyone figured out every episode would be the same, and at that point we just finished for the heck of it. Me personally, in retrospect? It's toothless action. There's no tension, and the jokes aren't funny enough to carry it otherwise.

If you don't get it, you don't get it. There's enough people expanding on their positive opinions of it both in the voting thread and around the internet in general.

But really, I don't think even the show's detractors would call every episode the same. The dynamic changes quite a bit once the Hero Association gets introduced.

Three of my top ten made it in as expected. Haikyuu is the biggest surprise, especially since the first season didn't do anywhere near as well. The top three was pretty obvious this year, though I thought the gap between one and two was going to be a liitle closer.

I think with first half he (and I) mean the first half of the original 2004 series, which honestly (and sadly) doesn't hold up to the rest of the franchise.
Shows that have a high barrier of entry are probably almost always destined to rank farther behind...

But yeah, the entirety of Exodus was fucking phenomenal.

Not surprised to see OPM crushed it but I expected Shirobako to be closer.

Now the REAL SHAME is that Cross Ange came in at #31 and Monster Musume at #51!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?
I mean #4 has food orgasms drawn by a well-known porn artist. We all have our kinky sides.

Principate

Saint Titanfall
Seriously, Garo only got 15 votes.

I hate all of you.

It is an injustice, but even on a week to week basis you could tell barely anyone was actually watching the show despite it's quality. At least we have the movie based on the first season this year.

Which will likely also be ignored in Anime of the year voting.

No Unlimited Blade Works, pffffft. For shame.

haters, be gone

Happy to see OPM, Sound Euphonium and Food Wars rank so highly since they make up my top 5. I didn't watch Sound Euphonium until after I'd posted my list (and was then too lazy to edit it) but the show is great.

I'm not sure what you mean by medium defining; I don't really see any way in which Ping Pong, as good as it is, defines anything, especially in comparison to Yuasa's earlier works. But as far as 2015 TV anime goes, I think Sound Euphonium and especially Garo the Animation showed the heights of what it is possible to achieve in the medium. (Also Kagewani.)

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

I'm fine with you not liking it or thinking the humor is that funny but toothless action? Tension less fights? Can you actually explain how the episodes are all the same? That comes off as some purposefully vague salty hyperbole.

It's a tough sell when it requires you to have watched old seasons and films before you can even begin, and the original season of it is not that highly spoken of even by Fafner fans.

I have a newfound appreciation of the earlier episodes on my rewatch. While not as amazing as the rest, they are a lot more enjoyable when I can actually remember who is who. But the first half of the original definitely is a bit of a barrier on a first watch, though one I think is definitely worth it.

Not sure what there is to 'get'.
The action is great. You either like it or you don't.
If you are watching it for plot and humour and that's it, then yea, you may not think it is 'anime of the year' quality.

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
OPM vs Shirobako is like The Witcher 3 vs Life is Strange.

Of course it was going to win, and by a large margin too simply due to exposure.

I watch One Punch Man for the story.

Okay, not really, but I'd hardly call it poorly-written either, even when ignoring what it has to be within the confines of its own genre. It covers the standard story beats damn well and has more than a few likable characters. If people were only into it for mindless action, the ONE webcomic version wouldn't be popular.

Well if one doesn't find the humor funny/finds the series one punchline to get old then what are you left with? An action series where a bunch of jobbers doing impressive looking stuff that almost always amounts to nothing while the audience waits for Saitama to show up and solve the problem in one punch then get no credit from the masses due to innane leaps of logic.

It truly comes down to clearly what people like about OpM is what I and others don't like about it and the only option is to agree to disagree.

Though we can all agree that the art is fantastic in murata's manga version and the animation in the anime does it justice.

For sure, but the story alone isn't really why people would vote it anime of the year. Or at least, I don't think that is why.
The story is decent, the humour is decent, the characters are good, and the action is great, would be my opinion.

It's not solely a comedy series though. If you watch Daily Lives of Highschool Boys and don't find the humour funny, then you are literally left with nothing.
With One Punch Man, the action is excellently done, the character designs are interesting at the least. Even if you don't find the humour funny, there are still reasons to watch it and enjoy it.
It's perfectly fine if you don't like the series and if it isn't for you. I would never say you have to like it.
But when people say they 'just don't get it', and act like it is shocking how people could even possibly like it, I find that to be a little extreme.
