I just recently ran upon websites that help organize "candy swaps". Basically, two people from different regions of the world will buy each other candy or other rare snacks and then send them to each other. Seems like a pretty neat idea, and everyone loves candy. Especially, candy they couldn't have otherwise.

Since GAF has users from all over the world, I figured it would be pretty easy to get a candy swap organized.

If you would like to participate, please include the following in your reply post:

!!!REGISTRATIONS ARE CLOSED!!!

Thanks for those who have participated, and sorry for those who missed out. Hopefully, we can do this again sometime.

Once you do this, you will be entered in a pool. I will do my best to match you up with your location preference but we most likely will not have enough supply to meet the demand. So, I cannot promise anything. I will match you up with a different region if I cannot match you with your preference.

When you have been matched, I will send both users a PM with all the information you need. You can then further discuss the details of the swap with your swap partner. You must decide on a price range if you wish to have one.

-- Important Information --

The candy/snacks should be packaged properly. Individually wrapped or still sealed from the purchase.

Candy needs to be legitimate. Homemade candy is fine as long as it is like a specialty candy from a small business and is packaged properly.

Don't make homemade candy and put it in a ziploc bag and send it. The purpose of this swap is to get your hands on goodies that are rare or not found in your location.

THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS FRIDAY, MARCH 7TH 2008.

when I was in america I was overwhelmed by all the new sweets, i tried some that were amazing (reeces peanut butter cups, butterfingers) and some that were vile (herseys kisses, twizzlers). Id love to swap overseas for new stuff, especially Pocky.

Location: England
Area: Candy from North America
Wants: American exclusive Candies, pocky.

Best candy ever.

and some that were vile (herseys kisses, twizzlers). Id love to swap overseas for new stuff, especially Pocky.

What are you fuckin' crazy?

Awesome idea. I brought some Hi-Chew, Botan Rice Candy (hey, I like it), and Pocky back from Hawaii. I've also got some Chilean candies coming in the next week or so, so I have a few things people might be interested in. Aside from that, it's just regular old Utah candy...not too much that's really special except for the saltwater taffy from Taffy Town (http://taffytown.com/p_home.asp).

Well in NY isn't there Dylan's Candy Store that has everything? I've been promising myself to stop by there for ages. This would give me a good reason to go.

I'll send someone Fun Dip, if they haven't experienced it! :lol

I might be down with this. I'll see if I can hunt down some more Elvis Reese Cups.

Best idea I've heard all week.

Is it usually just branded, packaged candies you can buy in a regular store, or other, more specialty handmade candies that you swap?

I once had a bar of chocolate from Switzerland. It was the best chocolate bar I ever had in my life. If there are any swiss gaffers, I'll hook you up with some awesome candy from United States.

I'm not sure if i'm up for eating someone's homeade candy, but I'd love some specialty candy. Especially stuff with the word butter on the front, or listed in the ingredients.

Do they still have those fruit roll-ups in Australia? Boy oh boy I loved those when I was out there. Failing that could you smuggle me some sugar cane?

If either of these is true I'm in!

I didn't mean "My candies: let me make them and send them to you", but "Let me go to a store that sells homemade candy (like truffles or fudge) and send that instead"

Just wondering what kind of assortment we're going for, here.

I want some. They look like crunchy waffles on the internets.

I see. Sort of like boutique candies, which would probably be the most original. There are a few specialty stores here, but they are grossly expensive.

I had an old photography teacher that always brought in this nasty rock candy that tasted like he brewed it in his bathtub... so I'm a little weird about 'homeade'

I'd say anything that is decently packaged and looks legit would be fine. I'd probably feel a little hesitant to eat candy from a random ziploc bag.

I know there are some mom and pop shops that sell their homemade candy and they have nice packaging and such. So, in that case, I don't see why not.

i'd be happy to take you up on this, imported american candy is really expenisve here, and there is some stuff i miss.

i have done a few candy swaps in the past and they're really fun! it's super awesome getting to try sweets from all around the globe, and when you get the big box full of candy delivered to your door it's a great feeling :D

maybe we should all list our countries, prefs, and people from what countries we'd like to trade with? this sounds like a great idea if you can get something going, tmaynard.

I'd be more than willing to swap crappy UK candy for scrumptious American cereals.

Although, we'll need to be sure about FDA import restrictions on foodstuffs. I went through the "right" way to send stuff once and it was a mountain of paperwork.

You are aware the Swiss export their chocolate, right?

What are you talking about? You can send Candy in the mail to a different country without any problems.

They are only good when fresh. When the chocolate is crisp and the peanut butter is creamy... they're godly. When the chocolate is mushy and the peanut butter is powdery they suck complete ass.

I'm talking about stuff going into the US. When I sent (not long after 9/11, mind you) I was advised (perhaps needlessly) to fill in an FDA form because I was sending food into the US.

If that's not the case, hooray. Either way, I need my Count Chocula fix.

I'm in.

Location: USA
Would like candy from: Anywhere not the US. UK, Japan, Mexico, it's all good.

For those of you looking for the swap site I mentioned in the original post, here it is.

http://gimmeyourstuff.blogspot.com/

Personally, I would rather do the swapping within GAF.

Now, about organizing this. This is what I suggest.

You make a post saying where you are located, and then if you have a preference you would list this as well.

For example,

Location: USA
Wants Candy From: Japan

If you would like a specific type of candy from this region, I would suggest listing that as well.

Once people have registered. We could have a middle man to match people up. However, like mentioned before, we will probably run into a problem with a lot of people wanting candy from a certain region when there are only a couple participating from that region. In that case, we could suggest a swap from a different region. (I'm not going to be too picky, candy is candy.)

Once you have been matched up, you both can decide the price range that you would like to spend on each other.

Anything else to add?

Yes, this is very important. We need to make this as painless as possible, if we can get it together.

If anyone knows anything about specific restrictions, please share them.

From USA, want candy from France, Japan, or Korea.
Also, I live in an area where I could probably get unique specialty stuffs.
Any price.

Consider it a deal, if we can get this thing rolling.

Location: Canada (can send North American sweeties)
Wants: Anything (used to live in England, so I know most of that stuff)

Okay, I'm going to begin logging everyone that wants to participate. So, everyone can begin listing their information.

I'm going to continue to look for information on shipping restrictions between countries. If others would help look for this information, I'd appreciate it.

If nothing else, we can at least get people matched up, and then work on the restrictions later.

Location: Seattle, WA. USA
Wants Candy From: Anywhere in the world. I don't like black licorice, though.

I'm willing to ship worldwide.

edit: I am also able to get some Japanese candy, Canadian candy, Russian candy, Mexican candy, and British candy here in the Seattle area. So my person won't get stuck with getting just American candy.

sesame_street_count_dracula.jpg

Count me in

Tijuana (will ship from US)

Can get candy from both sides of the border. (american and mexican).

Interested in anything not from this continent :D

Around 30-40 bucks of candy

I'd so be up for this if I had more expendable income. Let's see if this is still around after I've kept my job for a few more weeks.

:lol Wait. Will anyone want American candy? I know we have lots of elitists around here against everything from the states.
