Re- servbots sketch

Damn dude, that is awesome.

Okay, seriously I've been staring at my almost brand new cintiq for too long and I have a whole week away from my motivation killing job , I think nows as good a time as any to draw some stuff. Maybe I'll follow the lead of others here and do some in progress stuff. I got asked to draw someones LARP character.

--- and here we go, this is just 30 minutes of sketching, nothing serious but still it was some drawing.

Sorry for not posting consistently, but I have wondered on how do you guys fight dry spells? For anyone who's in illustration/concept design, what would tell a inspiring concept artist/illustrator to study?

Drawing a Day: Day 7

Current version

seiga_by_evilisk-d6ktv0j.png

Version with the sketch layer not visible

Felt like doing a WIP drawing since everyone else is (also because I don't do enough full pictures. This is part 1, done in Photoshop with a tablet. Hoping to get this done by the end of the week since I don't have a tablet to use on the weekends. Am pretty happy with how this turned out though I cheated a little and manipulated the size of the head (the one I drew turned out to be too small at first).

Character is Seiga Kaku from Touhuo, easily a favourite character of mine to draw because of how decieving her design is (you wouldn't expect this nice looking character to go into people's houses at Christmas, steal their stuff and sell it back to them the next day, or to bring people back from the dead as her servants) as well as how fun it is to draw her.

For dry spells, well I just draw. Whether it be looking at my favourite pictures and drawing them in my style, or drawing favourite characters or just random stuff around the house, I just draw even if it's only a little bit.

Mixture of both. I often make mental notes through my day while just doing whatever to apply to my work. I have some reference photos saved to study anatomy and some other things, but tend to use references most when I'm stuck figuring out how something would work.

I have some stuff I've done starting from digital line work, but I find i get far too meticulous and just waste time trying to perfect the line work (to the point where it looks stiff). So I start all my paintings with pencil sketches. Much faster.

What I will say is , don't expect to be suddenly better at arting if you grab a tablet. And likewise, don't expect it to be the same as drawing on paper either. Feels pretty different.

Nope not looking to improve my art looking to make it easier to paint. Busting out my acrylics, brushes, water, canvas etc. Is a huge pain with a 19month old. I already have a older wacom tablet with a tiny active area which makes it impossible to sketch on. So jumping to digital would help me paint, draw and ink more easily. Also some extra tools would be helpful. Looking at a Bamboo Create anyone working with one of those?

Wow...haven't posted here in ages. Too much rl stuff happening.

An attempt at drawing a gothic lolita hero. Guess I still have RWBY running in my head. This is rough as shit, though

Haven't posted in day or two; I have several pictures to show off.

First one is doodle/concept of another character for the story I'm writing. I wanted him to be sorta ruff and rugged in appearance but also sexy to a certain extent as well. In my story one of the para-military groups, the Tactical Infantry has more of a modern design. I was going for something that is a mix between WWI uniforms with hints of something semi-futuristic. His outside layer of clothes is something some sort of specialist would wear, yet beneath that he has on armor that is standard for the Federal Protectorate, another military group. Their armor is more form fitting and futuristic.

Here is sorta the main character, kinda sorta for my story. She is suppose to be a mix of Asian and Arabic heritage; not sure how well that displays. That said, her uniform is a better display of what the Tactical Infantry wear, more so then the first picture. I wanted to go for that WWI/modernish design. You the sorta pants that only go to her knees, sorta similar to WWI and where her legs are exposed is where some sort of canvas leggings would be placed. As you can see her shoes are just simple slip on around her ankles. The black shirt is more modern/hint at futuristic stuff then most of those aspects and acts as good bridge for the futuristic armor that would got over some of her outfit. I didn't draw the armor cause she isn't in a combat pose, but there isn't much armor. Just vests, arm padding and such. In the story she is a cybernetic, so I havent decided yet weather the thing on her arm is a tatoo or her implants on surface of her skin.

Then my sister drew this, it is a wizard in drag. Not the boots and fishnets.

this thread makes me ashamed of my works.

Don't worry, same here!

Day 26:

1 hour, artrage 4, wacom bamboo.

Edit: also, if anyone uses artrage 4 and is experienced with it, can anyone tell me how I got these off white blob patches on my painting? I like the look but I can never replicate willingly. I always do this effect by mistake.

Oh cool, I'm not the only one that watches that show, lol.
Nice drawing by the way.

While I was banned, I worked on quite a few pieces, but I only want to show one, since I don't want to post a bunch. >>

So, here's a drawing I made of the Mass-Production Evangelion, with its variant!

I had to shrink the image since the originals are like, 2560 * 1600. lol

Buncha doodles. From left to right, top-down:

-Hadal helmet concept.
-Sceraphid helmet concept.
-Attempt at a "realistic," organic Mechrodian skeleton, female variant, inspired by jujubeads' latest piece.
-Ideas for faction icons: Barominid, Sheolite, Sceraphid, Mechrodian, and Hadal.

EDIT: Sceraphid logo's vector version.

EDIT 2: Barominid vector too!

Drawing a Day: Day 8 (time is roughly about 15-20 minutes for Flash part, 10 minutes for the original drawing)
Here's the original picture:

Yeah yeah I know I said the other was going to be continued today just let me explain lol
Turns out I couldn't come in today for some reason and had no access to a tablet (again) so I just ended up doing this instead. I also felt like doing something a bit different than the standard drawing with pencil/pen/tablet so this was a nice change.

It's a vector done in Adobe Flash. It's not drawn straight from Flash (it's turn out terrible lol), I sketched the original drawing on a whiteboard, took a photo of it and then used Flash to do the lineart. Character is Raiko Horikawa from Touhou, though I gave her a neat hat that I thought would be funny to add.

I'm happy with it but as with most of my drawings, the eyes and face/neck turned out weird. Here I basically just left it as it is because the colors work well together. I was originally going to do it in full color but the eyes always looked extremely awkward so I just left the skin white and basically took a minimal approach to the coloring.

Also on closer inspection, I mucked up the proportions on the shoulder but meh.

These are awesome! Really nice stuff.

Great to see this thread still alive and kicking! Some groovy stuff has been posted!

I really should get back into this... I lasted 2 weeks before I fell off the wagon last time, and actually had a bit of fun. That's no small feat for myself since I get easily distracted and procrastinate a lot, lol.

I did this up last night, sketched some other things in the last couple days too. Drawing daily is much harder than you'd think it would be.

Artist...I SEE YOU.
Get back into this! We were supposed to do this together!

Day 75, ~2h20m.

Curious, what is that supposed to be?

Drawing a Day: Day of [Crap I forgot to upload something yesterday]

Man I can't believe I forgot to do something for yesterday. Ugh.

seiga3_by_evilisk-d6l6x4r.png

Anyway, went over initial sketches with a black brush. Then started adding color and shading. Not happy at all with the shading (probably one of the areas I really need to improve in). It looked okay when I was coloring though.

Day 9 - About an hour. A few figures using the figure drawing tool at pixelovely.

I haven't been able to get much personal practice done since school started last week, but I did begin a life drawing class so maybe I'll post some stuff from that.

Day 77, ~1h50m.

Is this what I think it is?

I first saw it on mobile and it took me a second to realize the abdominal muscles weren't a giant dick. :lol

I'm trying to do more species analysis things for my factions to try and make them a little more believable... or relatable, anyway. Have some bugaboo sketches. Took about an hour, CS5, Wacom Bamboo.

Ah i get you. Yeah totally perfect for that then, though yeah still not like actual painting at all. Good way to get colours down quickly. I think capturing something that reflects a genuine water colour style will be difficult, but you can always get custom brushes. And I actually use the Bamboo Create (the model just before the most recent one). It works fine for painting, but be weary of repetitive strain. Personally I find it more tedious to ink on that because the drawing space is so small. But I haven't ever tried a larger one so , perhaps one of those would work better.

Anyway, I played MetalGear Rising, and completed it in one day. Was absolutely hooked. I hardly ever do fan art but damn. Really enjoyed it.

Mech pencil, moleskine, and edited a bit in photoshop (some level adjustments and a couple brush strokes. Took out the page seam) not the most accurate thing, but could only work on this today. 4 or 5 hours? I don't even remember.

Hey guys just stumped across this http://mastersofanatomy.com/

"Master of Anatomy: The Ideal Male and Female, is a one-of-a-kind collection of artistic anatomy bringing together the work of 64 artists from different industries. Each artist recreates the Ideal Male and Female illustrated in their own signature style and without the aid of external reference. Each angle is neutral, symetrical and unposed showing the front, side and 3/4 front angles in a classic animation turn-around. The goal: to translate a decades-old sketch into something more relevant to a modern aesthetic. The result is a volume unlike anything that exists today. A must have for any aspiring artist; digital or traditional."

You can sign up for a Kickstarter reminder email on the bottom of the page. This looks pretty cool I know many of us could use anatomy study.

Really digging your latest stuff Wahrer.

Thanks, you too! Your second-to-last post here (with the lens flare-looking thing center pic and the cooler colors) looks absolutely unreal. I'm going to have to work a concept like that into one of my multiplayer maps.

Maybe as an aside to the Drawing-a-Day part of this thread, we could try something like this. It'd be neat to see GAF's version of anatomical reference stuff, even if we bent the rules a bit.

jujubeads would destroy us all, but that's not the point
