NeoGAF Rolling Backlogathon - Now Logging for December 2010

I NEED SCISSORS said:
I finished all the challenges with at least bronze, as well as the extra challenges after the credits. I bought a few cars too and raced at least once on all the tracks. Backloggery says you 'beat' a game when you see the credits roll, so i'm going on that.

I would say, in Backloggery terms, that you completed it quite comfortably. It's just one of those games, like Dead or Alive Paradise too, that you have to draw a line somewhere with what you accomplished.
Yeah, I think I'll you're right. That's one for the month, then.

-1-
Gran Turismo PSP

Also, I guess we won't need to bother contacting other mods to change the thread title each month anymore :D

Fourth game of the month is Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Pretty good game and challenging too for me. :D

1.) Red Dead Redemption
2.) Super Mario Galaxy 2
3.) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
4.) Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

EDIT: Can a mod come and delete those two extra posts I made?

Wario Land II
Red Dead Redemption
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Alan Wake
Super Street Fighter IV
Blitz: The League II
Wheelman
UFC 2009 Undisputed

Two games I left half finished about a year ago. Thought I was going to have a tough time picking UFC up where I left it off, but I guess I didn't forget everything - retired from the Lightweight division undefeated.

During this month, 52 players have completed 194 games.

Alan Wake and Nier down, hopefully Mass Effect 2 this week. E3 hype has me thinking Twilight Princess will be next! then back to Policenauts.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
Alan Wake
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Loved pretty much every minute of it, despite the lame combat. Definitely felt a bit on the short side, though, even after trying to stretch it out by playing small chunks each time.

Pokemon Heart Gold in now going in the complete pile for a total of one this month, I haven't caught em' all or beat Red but after 130 hours playtime the main game is cleared and I've done pretty much everything I want to do.

I added a LOT of games to my backlog last week, so now Pokemon is out of the way I've signed up for Backloggery (here) and need to start getting through the backlog again - starting with Rayman M and Trauma Center: New Blood.

June:

Madworld (Wii)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
Aladdin (SNES)
de Blob (Wii)
Tank Battles (PSN)

Wasn't able to get a 6th done, I'm happy with 5 in June.

Fifth game of the month is Bionic Commando. Finally got back to it after almost half a year of not touching it because of a stupid collectible. It was alright, but I remember why I waited for it drop to $20 before I bought it. Next game will probably be either Valkyria Chronicles or Alan Wake. Wake is being brought over by my friend who is coming down from NC for a week or two so I might tackle that one first.

1. Red Dead Redemption
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
4. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
5. Bionic Commando

I was thinking about putting a dent into my NIS America RPGs. I have all the US PS2 Atelier Iris, Ar Tonelico and Mana Khemia games. I was leaning towards Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana or Ar Tonelico. What do you guys suggest?

I just finished Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers on the Wii. Great presentation and good characters and story, but there's not much of a game underneath it all. Most of the game's ten hour lifespan is spent with cutscenes and running around trying to figure out where you've got to go to next. Somewhat disappointing.

This brings my June score to 3, and my backlog count is now 9, since I bought two new PS3 games that had just entered Platinum status. Oh well... I'll try to get it down to 5 before I buy any more games.

Games finished in June:
- Golden Sun: The Lost Age (GBA)
- Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Wii)
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (Wii)

Next up, I think I'll pick up Paper Mario on the Virtual Console, and of course, I'll continue my progress on GTA IV, where I have completed only 12 of the ~90 story missions.

June:

(1)

Dead Space

Finally! A really great game, for some reason I had never gotten past chapter 5...

I went ahead and got the platinum too, it was a pleasure.

(oh and Hammond is Peter Mensah!)

Ar Tonelico! Not that long, lots of funny dialogue, and great music.

Up to 2 for June after clearing Escape From Monkey Island. I can't really decide if I liked the game or not, some parts were kinda fun but the puzzles were ridiculously obscure with not even the slightest hint of what you may want to consider doing. And Monkey Kombat sucks ass.

1: Pokemon Heart Gold
2: Escape From Monkey Island

I'm thinking of clearing out a couple of Wii games next but could do with something short. Does anyone know if Battalian Wars 2, BlastWorks, Red Steel or Trauma Center: New Blood are short games?

10 down for June.

Wario Land II
Red Dead Redemption
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Alan Wake
Super Street Fighter IV
Blitz: The League II
Wheelman
UFC 2009 Undisputed
Guitar Hero 5

Slowing down due to heavy workload during E3, but I still found enough time to plow through the career of Guitar Hero 5. Still got Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits and LEGO Rock Band to beat as far as plastic instrument games go.

Beaten Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor

Took me longer than I assumed with all the BS grinding and huge jumps in level difference. No game plus with uber demons is insane though.

Boom Blox
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love
Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon

Aw, they didn't translate the credits. Now I can't track down the inventory designer and punch them in the face.

Edge - Best platformer I've tried for iOS. Unique concept, great control scheme, well-made soundtrack.
Um Jammer Lammy - A shining example of Japanese weirdness. A little frustrating to get accustomed to at first, like all rhythm games, but a lot of fun once you pass over the learning curve.
Clannad
Loom
The Dig

June total: 5

1: Pokemon Heart Gold
2: Escape From Monkey Island
3: Luigi's Mansion

Boy was that a short game, I only started Luigi's Mansion in the morning and have finished it by 9pm even though I haven't been playing it all day. I really enjoyed it, although I hate how they artifically extended the length of the game by throwing in a ridiculous amount of backtracking during the last section of the game.

Have to look back and see what I've beaten, but just beat Mega Man Zero 2 Last boss not as annoying as the first one's last boss. Onto MMZ3!

11 down for June.

Wario Land II
Red Dead Redemption
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Alan Wake
Super Street Fighter IV
Blitz: The League II
Wheelman
UFC 2009 Undisputed
Guitar Hero 5
Global Defence Force

Most of you know this one as Earth Defence Force 2, but D3 changed the name when they released it in Europe. Took me about 4 hours to take down the final boss - I'd say it's the biggest thing I've ever fought in a game at this point.

I just finished Alan Wake. One of my best friends from NC came down and let me borrow it for a playthrough. I really liked it even though it didn't live up to the hype as I was set to buy this day one, but then I thought about SMG2. :lol I bought Megaman Zero Collection, GBA SP, and a few GBA games so I may get on those or I might just finish Bayonetta since I'm about 30-40% through it.

1. Red Dead Redemption
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
4. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
5. Bionic Commando
6. Alan Wake

This game was great fun. Not sure how much more I can do this month, to say that my life has gotten a little complicated in the last week would be an understatement.

God of War 2
Ace Attorney Investigations
Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing DS
Mega Man X8
Joe Danger

4 points.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
Alan Wake
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Red Dead Redemption

A few small annoyances aside, an awesome game. Now I'm going to try to finally finish another awesome Rockstar San Diego game, Midnight Club: Los Angeles.

Mario & Luigi 3: Bowser's Inside Story is done. Fantastic game but the final gamut of bosses were too easy, not sure if I was just higher leveled or what. Definitely a fun ride, makes me wish Bowser were playable in more games.

This puts me at 2 this month

M&L3
Super Mario Galaxy 2

I'm on a roll this month. Just finished Bayonetta. That puts me down for seven this month. Really great game and I can't believe it took me so long to finally play it. I got this on day one, but got into Mass Effect 2 and forgot about it with everything else. Not sure what I'm going to get on next yet.

1. Red Dead Redemption
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
4. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
5. Bionic Commando
6. Alan Wake
7. Bayonetta

June thus far

Gotcha Force (GCN)
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor (DS)
Excitebots (Wii)
Rad Racer (NES)
Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut (PS2)

5 for the moment.

12 down for June.

Wario Land II
Red Dead Redemption
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Alan Wake
Super Street Fighter IV
Blitz: The League II
Wheelman
UFC 2009 Undisputed
Guitar Hero 5
Global Defence Force
Splinter Cell: Conviction

A neat and tidy ~6 hour game. My Xbox 360 backlog is starting to look a little leaner.

Up to...5 points I think

Splinter Cell: Conviction
Trauma Team
GundeadliGne
Mega Man Zero 2
F.E.A.R.

Close to finishing Mega Man Zero 3, and gotta do both the F.E.A.R. expansion packs. Hmm!

Which is shorter Atelier Iris Eternal Mana or Ar Tonelico?

Haven't played any of the Atelier Iris series, sorry :/

5 points.

Boom Blox
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love
Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon
Rez HD

Apparently I didn't rebuild Eden, but the credits rolled. Lack of mid-level checkpoints means I'll take that as a win!

4 Down so far this month:

1) Heavy Rain
2) Alan Wake
3) Trine
4) God Of War 3

GOW3 was pretty enjoyable. Great graphics and nice boss variety. Little over 8 hours to complete on God difficulty.

Eight points now with the completion of Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. Finished the game and got the good ending although the game was no challenge to be honest. There were maybe one or two bosses that I got stuck on, but only because I wasn't really paying attention. Anyways, I may go ahead and start on Aria of Sorrow or Force Unleashed as it's the only 360 game left on my log.

1. Red Dead Redemption
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
4. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
5. Bionic Commando
6. Alan Wake
7. Bayonetta
8. Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance

13 down for June.

Wario Land II
Red Dead Redemption
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Alan Wake
Super Street Fighter IV
Blitz: The League II
Wheelman
UFC 2009 Undisputed
Guitar Hero 5
Global Defence Force
Splinter Cell: Conviction
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

Another short FPS. I'm not sure what to think of the game, the first half was highly average and the ending wasn't particularly good, but the second half (at least gameplay wise) was fairly enjoyable.

My 360 backlog is starting to look manageable.

teeny said:
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Super Mario 64
LostWinds
Eversion
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Red Dead Redemption

RDR was bloody amazing. Its the first truly open world game that I have actually liked enough to play through fully. :) Galaxy 2 was just perfection. It has been a good month.

1: Pokemon Heart Gold
2: Escape From Monkey Island
3: Luigi's Mansion
4: War of the Monsters

Probably the shortest retail game I've ever played, clocking in at less than an hour to complete the campaign. Not sure I'll be able to clear any more this month since Sly 3: Honour Among Thieves and Starfox Adventures are up next and both are fairly long.

7 points now.

Splinter Cell: Conviction
Trauma Team
GundeadliGne
Mega Man Zero 2
F.E.A.R.
Mega Man Zero 3
F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point

An ok expansion that didn't wear out its welcome, but I'm wondering if Perseus Mandate will be any better.

14 down for June.

Wario Land II
Red Dead Redemption
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Alan Wake
Super Street Fighter IV
Blitz: The League II
Wheelman
UFC 2009 Undisputed
Guitar Hero 5
Global Defence Force
Splinter Cell: Conviction
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad

Clearing out a few action/hack n slash games out now.

5 Down so far this month:

1) Heavy Rain
2) Alan Wake
3) Trine
4) God Of War 3
5) Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Short, but sweet. Over 60 hours in multi-player though.
