Neotokyo - awesome technobabble nipple grabbing gameplay

Anyone know what Radi-8's plan for the game is from here on out?

Are they actually gonna finish up all of those other levels? Think they might just let the game play out for a while and take a break as I'm sure they were pushing hard to get the game out.

I think they're releasing 10 more maps for the Team Deathmatch mode and making every map compatible with each gametype.

I'll have to do that sometime. I tried to hop on with you guys earlier, but the server was full. :D

Support is the easiest class to start with. Don't have to worry about cloak or aux power, just point, click and kill! Good class for getting the mechanics down.

Yeah the high defense, invunerability to headshots and early access to the auto-rifle make it a great beginner class. thermal vision and smokes also make it a great class later on as well. Most importantly, the machine gun saws through everything and is one of the most accurate automatic weapons across all classes. No knife and no snipers, but it doesn't really matter.

For those that have the OST, are the sample songs thing on their website indicative of the rest of the collection, because DAMN I love this stuff. Why the hell aren't any of these songs playing during the actual game. :lol

You can find 15/27 songs from the soundtrack in your NeotokyoSource/soundtrack folder.

The OST is good background music to have on for doing work/whatever, if you like the samples the rest of it will definitely please you.

i'm loving this mod. it took a day or so to get used to the gameplay, but now i feel more confident in myself. i'm not very good at it, but i'm definitely getting better. the thermal visor is so clutch.

So I was playing support on tarmac today, and my whole team gets wiped out, leaving me 1v5, and I already used up one of my clips for my silenced assault rifle. So I climb up on one of the rooftops and lay down a smoke, and get into a little firefight with another support and a recon. I take them out, but I'm down to half health and 1 1/2 clips. I turn around and I see an assault through a little window and I get a lucky headshot. 3 down, 2 to go. Drop down, head inside, and a recon suprises me from around the doorway. We exchange fire, might've even won if he was any other class. Problem is, now I'm down to 4 health and 8 bullets. No grenades. I toss my rifle and scavenge the dead recon's shitty-ass SMG. I hear a sound, and sure enough, the last guy went for the ghost. Now we're on equal tactical ground, and I know he's only got a pistol. I hide behind the truck next to the only smurf delivery point, and wait for him to come through the doorway. After what seems like forever, he pops through, and it's a fucking support. Lucky for me, support's have the crappiest pistol and he has some trouble aiming. However, i forgot that I had the smg and the added range put me in an equally bad position.

A message pops up on the screen: NeoTokyoNoob kills you with 1 health remaining. All of a sudden I can hear my team screaming into their microphones.

Goddamn this is a great game.

Haha, you got owned by a NeoTokyoNoob and whatnot. I hate people screaming in microphones. :( I joined friends playing on a "mature" server (no people under 16 allowed on microphones), and they had rules like no singing, humming, or jacking off on the mic. People were still singing and still had high-pitched voices though. =( And everyone was being all srs bzns and threatening to teamkill teammates if they didn't get out of their way and so forth.

On a brighter note, even thought he game is hard and cruel and only gives you one life, I guess I'm getting a little better or a little luckier. I've still only played recon, and I haven't managed to use my one detonator (when I even get one) to do anything useful, though. I killed myself with it once, rather far away, and set it off near some enemies to apparently no effect another time.

I did manage to take down maybe two out of three people heading for the ghost dropoff spot though, that was nice. Oh, and I delivered the ghost for the first time. I didn't even see any enemies on the radar thingy, I guess they were far away.

Other recon adventures: I hate supports. I like the left second-row gun. The few times I've gotten the third-row left gun, it also seems nice...it's loud, but it seems to be suppressed? I've also started trying to learn the places where you can crouchjump up on buildings, or find ways into the rafters or vents. I'm not sure how useful this is, but it's fun to hang out up there and feel sneaky. Also, given how totally blind smoke makes you, I wish there were more dark areas so night vision actually had an advantage. There are only a couple of places where it even seems useful.

At moments it can really make or break people. There is a lot of dropouts on some servers I play because people just cannot swallow the variance of challenges the game throws at you.

At the same time there is not much advantage Support have outside of being a tank. They cannot hide whatsoever.

The more you play, the luckier you get. As for the det bomb, it's kinda hard to use. It's best to drop in on the ghost or drop it then lure the enemy to where you are. Still, it's pretty risky. Nightvision is pretty much worthless since only 1 or two maps have dark spots and supports will spot you anyway. Those vents though? Those are your best friends, especially since supports like me can't go into them for some reason. I haven't been able to, anyway. There have been a couple times where a single recon have pretty much killed my entire team(5/6 guys at once) by slipping around inside the ceiling. You can shoot through the bottom of the rafters and no one will know where you are.

Still, Recon's kinda hard to use and even though it was how I started out as well, it's hard to learn to avoind direct confrontation. You pretty much have to stay sneaky or snipe, otherwise you WILL die.

Well smokes give away your position, but let you hide enough that Recons and Assaults won't even bother shooting into the cloud. They usually either toss a frag or just plain hide. I stole a sniper off an assault's corpse once and got 6 kills in a row because I culd just tank everyone. It's not pretty, but tanking is still quite the advantage, especially combined with leaning around corners and immunity to headshots. The machine gun is also incredibly accurate at mid range.

Most my memorable moments were nearly killing my own teammates because I use the smoke + heat vision tactic a lot and sometimes I see the FF icon too late, and also before someone said you cant see people with cloak on when you have heat vision on but you can, they look all blacked out and shaded looking.

Gotta say the knifing mechanic isn't that great, because u can move through enemy troops u sometimes go too far to knife, it's hard to stop the exact correct distance to knife them in the back, still get some but it feels bad and it's awkward. Hopefully they do something about it otherwise it's not that great.

I played a bit last night, I figured out the correct pace for the game, although I get sniped the fuck out if I'm not concentrating or if I don't know the map. But if you play it slowly and tactically it's really fun, actually.

But the soundtrack is ...ughgodsoawesome.

I had my thermal on today and I didn't notice this recon was on the other team, and he was jumping around with the knife swishing all over the place, so I just figured he's some noob following me around. Nope, just like you said, he's having problems finding the right distance. It pissed me off so much when he finally killed me.

I still can't play the game, unfortunately. A recap of my problem : I have a Steam account, but no games on it and thus no SDK. I've installed the mod, no prompt to download the Source SDK. I've searched and found that I could download Coast 2 Coast and HL2 Deathmatch on Nvidia website. The SDK still isn't available in the Tools menu. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the mod to see if the prompt appears, still no chance. I've searched for the SDK file itself, but I can't find it anywhere, and I don't know if it would work by just copying it in my Steam folder.

So GAF, please help me out. I want to grab a nipple, at least a virtual one.

You need any one of THESE games installed for the mod to run. They all come with the SDK :)

you have to buy a (source) game, i dont think those freebies will do. check the tools tab in steam and see if you have the SDK in there.

This is an excellent mod. The only thing I miss is a mini-map. The Capture-the-Ghost gameplay is a wonderful rugby-style mode that I wish was incorporated into more traditional FPS games.

Honestly, the map scenery alone makes this mod worth a DL. Even if you hate the gameplay, it's fun to fly around and look at all the detail put into the surroundings.

I feel this needs to be brought up again. I tried it out last night and today and I have to say that it's a pleasant suprise, much better than I expected. I can't believe I missed it when it was released, all I knew was that the soundtrack was out :lol . Sadly the servers seem pretty empty these days but there's a few that have people playing around the clock so you can still find a good game. If you own hl2 check this mod out.

Holy shit! Completely stumbled upon this Mod by accident. I'm currently writing a cyberpunk themed story, and I just happened to google the term "NeoTokyo" in google images, looking for some sources of inspiration (huge fan of Akira and Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex) and BAM! This comes out of nowhere. The art, the style, the music, is exactly what I envisioned.

Holy shit...

Yeah NeoTokyo is probably a good place to go for a futuristic Japanese style of cyberpunk that deals with military action exclusively. Ghost in the Shell is good but it deals much more on the power of information, even though there is action throughout the Section-9 universe it all leads to intelligence = power. Akira is kinda the same pattern with Govt conspiracies and experiments dealing with the brain.

So this thread was never bumped post patch...

Patch Link

Game added in like 6 new maps + a night time vesion of Dawn called Dusk. It also changed up and added in some things in like 5 of 6 of the old levels. It took some stuff like the M41l, and tried to rebalance and fix somethings.

The two major complaints right now are the Supa 7, shotgun, is semi OP and you can use the shotgun glitch to make it really OP. Plus the left lean is borked unless they basically redo a good chuck of the game from the ground up. Neither are game breakers though that might be because the two main servers for NA tell people not to exploit either.

Overall the community has gotten really small, but it's insanely tight night. Not to stoke the fires, but there is also a slight rivalry between the two big NA servers CVG and DSG. I might not be able to get in a game 24/7 but at peak hours or on the weekends I can get in, and the games are usually really well handled.

*RANT*
I think the only complain I'd have is why anyone would actually like the frick'n map bullet. I don't care how people try and spin it the maps basically two hallways stacked on each other, and that's that. With a full server that map just because a cluster fuck.
*/END RANT*

Outside of that I'm still having fun, and learning new things each and every time I play. I'm still not that great, but I'm good enough to at least know WTF is going on.

At anyrate more GAFers should try this one out. If you speak up when you get in and let people know your new most everyone will be extremely helpful and accommodating to get people acclimated to the style of play. :D

Huh, I downloaded this and never played it. Maybe tomorrow. I have lots of free time.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have. I think the main reason a lot of people quit within the 1st week is the game is kinda hard to grasp. Pick up and play Call of Duty this is not.

I tried this a few times, but I got my ass beat down so hard, worse than when I got into Counter-Strike.

I bought the soundtrack though, it's so good.

This has always been on my list of mods to try out. I'm still waiting patiently for Black Mesa Source that's at the top of the list. :(

Anyway, maybe I'll download this today and give it a shot.

This is why I think the game has had problems getting people to play beyond the 1st day or two they've had the mod installed.

The game doesn't really have a singleplayer or a tutorial mode. It's all learn as you go, and since it's like gears or counterstrike with one life per round new people die so fast they feel like they can't ever have time to figure out wtf is going on.

Honestly it's a got a descent wall up that's a barrier to entry. People don't like to wait around while they are dead either. It's a good thing in this game though as you can spectate and really get a good feel for wtf is going on from the better people in the server.

God this game needs a tutorial mode with bots.

Has the game changed much since it's launched? I played it for a couple weeks before losing interest, but now i'm thinking about reinstalling it and giving it another go.

Anyone here still play?
