Neptune V (Compile Heart) announced for PS3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCVVCvCxL7g

SUDDENLY, A TRAILER. Not much there that isn't already known, and they've got Pirachu narrating it for some unholy reason. The 9999 damage cap is still there which is mildly infuriating.

Also evil book fairy girl's been added to the website with the last update.

Given that nothing's been seen of the secondary maker characters yet, plus their copyrights haven't been on the screenshots (unlike with the mk2 ones), the return of Gust, 5pb (nooo) and NISA is looking pretty doubtful. Hell, there's nothing to even suggest that IF/Compa are in at this point.

(I'm assuming the 5pb credit in the trailer is related to the music rather than anything else).

Also being Noire is suffering. This and more at the new dengeki article.

The tears won't stop. So yeah, IF and Compa definitely not playable. Not in the GC 1989 period anyway.

The baby on the right is probably meant to be PC Engine (bee = Hudson Soft reference). Could be Yellow Heart's human form. The fang's even in the right place. At this point there aren't really any options other than her or the girl on the left here.

Meaning the 2D-ish portraits, right? I definitely prefer that to the 3D models in mk2.
Well I meant the movement effect on the portraits that was in the first game but not in mk2's (limited) 2D portrait scenes. It was mentioned as supposedly being in V a while back but this's the first time there's been clear footage of it.

Also the site's been updated with some stuff including a lot of retailer pre-order bonuses. http://www.compileheart.com/neptune_v/shop.html (NSFW). Way too much Noire and not enough Blanc.

Oh, that! yeah this is much better.

Don't mind the excessive amounts of Noire fan-service, but I prefer Pururut. :p

Trailer the fourth.

I probably shouldn't comment on this one.

Not sure what to think of GC 1989 Blanc in that video. On the one hand, the 0:56 scene suggests a departure from (or at least a toning down of) her old, awesome personality. On the other hand, I think it stopped my heart for a few seconds.

Artwork scans for two new DLC characters have appeared, Marvelous and Broccoli. Marvelous looks decent enough, Broccoli looks catastrophically awful. Didn't look like finalised art though, so maybe there's hope.

Scans of IF, Compa and Piishe/PC (the third baby in the image a few posts up) have also surfaced showing them at different ages. IF and Compa have baby, child and adult forms, meaning that they may actually be playable at some point. Piishie/PC I believe only has baby and child.

Lastly, the website's been updated, including with mk2 characters.

Nepgear has different art from mk2, all the others have their old art.

Nepgear looks more serious compared to all her previous art (and it is also in stark contrast to her personality). I wonder why?

Trailer the sixth. No real theme to this one, it's just showing off the game as a whole.

Also, Marvelous and Broccoli:

Pretty sure they've both been confirmed as DLC characters somewhere. Presumably we'll be seeing their proper in-game art later.

I'm 90% certain that Izawa's confirmed here that the next Maker character will be Mages (parent company of 5pb). If she's a full character she'll likely be in a 2nd batch of DLC characters, like 5pb/Red in the first game.

Less than a week 'til the Japanese release now. The game scored 8, 8, 7, 7 (30/40) from Famitsu. HDN1 got 26/40 and Mk2 got 28/40 so we need another 5 games to get it to a perfect score.

http://exophase.com/game/ultra-dimension-neptunev-ps3/trophies/

Trophy list. It basically confirms which characters will be playable, i.e. the 5 CPUs, the 4 CPU candidates and Pish. So no IF, Compa or any of the previous Makers
I'll miss you, 5pb.

Izawa's confirmed another new Maker character, CyberConnect2. As with Marvelous, Broccoli and Mages, if she's a full character she'll be DLC further down the line.

Finally, it looks like (1) (2) Neptunia is getting an anime in some form or another. Took me about 5 minutes to stop laughing when I read the news.

When do you guys think it'll release stateside? Any chance this year?

I've been tempted to get into this series lately?

Do you think at this point it'd be best to skip MK2 wait for the English version of V to come out?

You can skip the first game, since the second game is kinda like a reboot of sorts since it has a different theme and completely different character dynamic, of which Neptune V follows.

The site's been updated with provisional art for CyberConnect2, Mages and Falcom (looks like she's back). Falcom's new design is about on a par with her mk2 appearance (i.e. passable) and CyberConnect2 is decent enough, but Mages is just utterly superior (as expected of 5pb's parent company). Wilbell from Atelier Ayesha wishes she could look that good.

Should just mention that although I'm sticking to the website updates like glue, I'm avoiding any playthrough footage/music etc from the released game.

Well damn. The kid versions of IF and Compa (see #111 above) have now been confirmed as DLC characters. There's a scan floating around with pictures of them. That brings the current number of DLC characters to 7, assuming the 5 Makers a few posts above are all DLC.

Nice. Will I be lost playing this without mk2? Its pretty hard to find the game here. :/
I assume by "here" you mean somewhere other than the US? It's on PSN in the US, don't know about anywhere else.

That's good news to me, lol. Wasn't looking forward to all the baby characters, honestly.

I have absolutely no idea what Neptune is but those screens and art design look absolutely gorgeous. Can someone give me a primer on what this is? Turn-based JRPG? That would be my guess going purely on screenshots.

Arg I just got MK2 and really liked the fact that it "only" had 2 dlc characters.

God I hope they don't bump the price of characters from $3 to $4 like they did with Atelier Meruru. Not only does it have about twice as many as totori but having them be more expensive as well really pisses me off.

That said being a huge .hack fan I don't think I could resist getting Cyberconnect lol

I beat the game today and reviewed it if you guys are interested. I actually really liked it, compared to mk2 (too short, expects the player to play through multiple times) and the first game (pretty much an awful game). There's actually quite a lot of post-game stuff going on in here, so I'm not done with it just yet. Most notably are the post-game bosses in the colosseum which still give you a hard time even at max level. I think anyone born in the 80's will appreciate V's themes and references as it's mostly geared towards people who grew up with the Mastersystem, Megadrive, PC-Engine, and SNES, although a few references are going to get lost in translation.

I'd recommend playing through mk2 at least before attempting to tackle V since a lot of the characters talk about past events (even pointing out recycled enemies) from mk2. If you guys have any questions feel free to PM or let me know.

Wish the kid Compa and IF were playable in the game. :( Oh well, will buy.

@Elixir: Good to hear. Will definitely give it a read and it's nice to hear there's a lot of side content this time around.

Also, MarvelousAQL and MAGES ftw.

So Compile (who's based on the original Compile; not to be confused with Compa who's based on Compile Heart) has been revealed as a DLC character. There's a scan around which I can't post, but what I can post is an image of her from Mk2 since she basically looks the same. She's the one in the middle:

From a design point of view I would've preferred either of the other two, but eh.

When I say she's a DLC character, what I mean is that she's recruitable in what seems to be a DLC epilogue that's going to be released. Apparently it's going to follow on from the game's true ending and you need to be level 200+ for it. Scratch that, turns out she's recruitable before that. Also the 'epilogue' is starting to sound more just like an additional event than anything else.

Uni, Ram and Rom are also getting proper new portraits. Pretty sure they're free DLC. Edit: Actually, looks like the portraits may be part of a package that adds additional events for them as well.

Oh, nice. Will be interesting if it leads to another Neptunia game and good to hear those 3- mostly Uni -are getting a new portrait.

I prefer the one on the right. She has a cute hairstyle.

Just played the demo. It's mk2, with new characters and dungeons. Which is kinda what I wanted (better graphics would've been nice too...).

I hadn't been listening to the release media or watched any livestreams, so the music was a bit of a surprise. It's pretty cool, I hope NISA puts out the soundtrack on vinyl. :)

Thanks for the bump. Downloading now.

Never played Mk2, but plat the first one. This is a way better game than the original Neptunia, incredibly fast battle loading, faster battle pace, increased framerate (not a fixed 30, but the resolution took a nose dive, everything is blurry on the world map and battles).

I liked the Epic EX attacks, got nostalgic about the limit breaks of the old Final Fantasy.

And Arfoire is alive? lol

:O Just saw Mages had a character and she's cute as hell.

I love Mages <3

It's times like this I regret choosing a 360 over a PS3. :/

More mk2? I approve!

It's a sequel to mk2. Haven't been keeping up it seems.

Anyway, good enough demo, at least enough to get accustomed to the visual novel aspects, combat system and boss. They didn't show the user requests or Nepstation parts of the game, but I understand. There's a lot more visual novel to it than what the demo may suggest.

They should have released this shit before the game release though. Bad business practice.
