Trailer
The trailer is not necessarily new, however many people didn't know about this and how it's being funded by questionable organizations. Also they are already planning to push this in the kids section from what I heard.
We need to have people in different states make movie industries, Hollywood has to be cut down to size and Atlanta is just Hollywodd light.
I can't believe this thread is still going,
AND the direction some of the posts have turned.
#BeBetter people.
I am going to preface this with, look, I don't hate you
Afro Republican
. I severely dislike people who post
SPIN and/or factually untrue things. It happens everywhere, but I honestly want
NeoGAF to be better than that. I don't care if the fake thing leans RIGHT or LEFT, if it's fake/false, cut that shit out. It makes everyone look bad & eventually not believe anything, true or not. Also, I am not GAY/Trans/Former/Otherkin/Enby/Spirtwalker/GI JOE/Drag/or any of the other letters. I'm a straight white male gamer (oh noes), for whatever that is worth. Also, I don't work for Netflix, and am not (as far as I am aware) a shill.
Let's look at the this thread and dissect it.
#1.
Title: "Netflix to order two seasons of "AJ and the Queen" Netflix agenda show, starring a Drag Queen and underaged kid."
Okay this is a bit of a yikes moment, but I looked (and looked) and could not find an article confirming a 2nd season of AJ and the Queen. When I Googled the title, this thread is the only thing that came up. Do you have a secret source that confirmed a 2nd season before any of the trades? To be fair, almost every website that DOES talk about this show mentiones it is VERY likely to get a 2nd season, but Netflix usually announces that kind of thing in the Spring.
See:
Screenrant.com
Netflix has yet to renew
AJ and the Queen, so there is no official indication of an upcoming season 2. However, given that the show only debuted in January 2020, there is still ample time for such an announcement.
Netflix typically uses viewing figures in order to determine its renewal decisions, as well as critical reception. News about
AJ and the Queen season 2 will likely be announced in February or March 2020.
Okay.
The 2nd point is kind of pedantic, but you lead with "Netflix to order..", and you posted this thread *3* days after Season 1 premiered. Well, are they ordering? It seems like they already ordered (and a while ago at that) since the show is already on Netflix. So, not a great start, were you trying to make a point with the phrasing/lies, or was it misinformation/fake news? I am honestly curious as I can't come up with a rational reason why these simple errors would be the lead-off for your topic.
#2. The OP.
#2A. "The trailer is not necessarily new".
Fair enough, the trailer linked was posted on December 4th, 2019. I think this is still in the realm of new-enough, but isn't BRAND NEW. Looks like the first official video I can find on YouTube was posted on November 19th, 2019. Point,

#2B. "however many people didn't know about this and how it's being funded by questionable organizations."
UH OH. Scary wording really sucks in the reader and gets us to perk up. QUESTIONABLE?! ORGANIZATIONS?! (Aside, If I am being honest, using
"questionable" in this way really reads like a left-wing post, are they
"problematic" too?) Anyway, I decided to do 5 minutes of basic research to uncover these (sinister) questionable (and despicable) organization behind AJ and the Queen.
Exhibit #1: The n(ever) infallible:
Wikipedia
On May 11, 2018, it was announced that
Netflix had given the production a series order for a first season consisting of ten episodes. The series is set to be written and executive produced by
RuPaul and
Michael Patrick King both of whom also created the show. Production companies involved with the series include MPK Productions and
Warner Bros. Television.
GASP! My pearls! Netflix! Well, okay, it's ON Netflix, so it makes sense for them to be associated with it, _I_guess_. Questionable? Maybe? It's Netflix. Do they have Gay/Weird/Whatever content? Yeah. Does the network the show is being shown on really come to mind when thinking
"funded by questionable organizations"? Not really.
Production companies? I am not sure these even qualify as the comment was "funded by", but whatever, let us dig in.
MPK Productions. Hmm. MPK? Murder Pedo Kill? Mime Potato Krill? Oh, it's
Michael
Patrick
King's own company. Okay. BUT WHO IS MICHAEL PATRICK KING! Well, he's gay. (
Wikipedia) He's worked on a bunch of gay shows over the years (Sex and the City, Will & Grace, uhhh 2 Broke Girls?), but I couldn't find anything linking him to Gay Extremists or Pedo-anything. I suppose for some people, simply being gay is enough to make him a "questionable organization", but, and I am being
really honest here, me telling you that a gay man was behind a Drag Queen TV show should really not come as any kind of shock. Not really.
The other one? Warner Bros. Television. THOSE FUCKERS. They only gave The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. 1 season. ONE SEASON. That's enough for me to call them a
questionable AS FUCK
organization. Point,
Afro Republican
.
Exhibit #2:
IMDB
Basically the same info. They did get animals from "Good Dog Animals", so maybe it's really funded by Furrykin or something.
#2C. "Also they are already planning to push this in the kids section from what I heard."
OH SHIT. This is where it gets good. Netflix is basically acting like a drug dealer pushing Drag Queens on unsuspecting children. Those fuckers!
Maury: You said this is going to be pushed into the Kids section of Netflix... our lie detector determined that was a lie.
I booted up my (questionable) Netflix (justrightnow) and toggled over the Kids section and there was no mention (not even a sequined whiff) of AJ and the Queen. Upon toggling back over to evil adult mode, I searched and it was right there. It seems like (questionable) Netflix rated this show TV-14, noting
"Parents Strongly Cautioned. May be unsuitable for children aged 14 and younger." Well, hmm. (questionable) Netflix Kids only seems to show content that is G & PG (for movies) or up to TV-Y-7 (for TV). So a TV-14 show couldn't even possibly show up on (questionable) Netflix Kids. Damn.
BUT! (you say, convincingly) maybe they're really aiming to salaciously convert kids watching REGULAR (questionable) Netflix (like the heathens they are). Okay, fair enough. So I toggled over to regular evil adult mode. Here is where,
MAYBE, I'll give
Afro Republican
half a point, and really this is only because I can't PROVE it won't/can't happen. So in evil adult mode, you can search for content in a number of different ways. One is to search by genre, of which, KIDS is a choice. However, this also seems to be beholdened to the "PG or "TV-Y-7" restrictions. I did not see nary an AJ nor a Queen while perusing. There are also subcategories where (questionable) Netflix seems to sort shows. Examples of these are "Kids' TV for ages 3 to 4", "Kids' TV for ages 11 to 12", "Kids' TV for turning kids gay", etc. I'm just kidding about the last one. Or am I? (
Yes, I am). There does NOT appear to be a subcategory for "Kids' TV for ages 14 to 15" or 14+ or anything. Kids' content seems to end at 12/PG/TV-7-Y.
And.. just like that, (questionable) Netflix throws another one at me. "Watch Together for Older Kids". AH-HA! Wait, no, just more of the same, just PG-rated stuff that seems geared for teenagers. Damn.
I don't have the ability (or time or energy) to literally track down all of (questionable) Netflix's algorithms for spitting this stuff out, but honestly from every single thing I've seen, there isn't a way for them to
"push this in the kids section". Also, where did you HEARD this from? The same person who informed you about the show getting green-lit for season 2 already? If so, that'd be a hell of a source, and I'd very much like to get confirmation. Without confirmation, however, I don't think it amounts to a hill of beans. At one point NeoGAF had a strict policy on "fake/unverified" insiders (mostly gaming shit), so I am not sure if that'd apply here.
#2D. "We need to have people in different states make movie industries, Hollywood has to be cut down to size and Atlanta is just Hollywodd light."
No argument here. I think all sides should have a voice, and entertainment content should be made for whatever market will pay for it. Though, to be fair, a lot of movie production stuff is moving out of CA/Hollywood simply due to the cost.
#3. Other Notes.
#3A. I did not realize the kid in this is a little girl. Color me surprised. I watched the trailer again and, yeah it's more obvious, but I thought for sure it was a little boy upon first viewing. This doesn't really change anything, just an interesting observation. I suppose the "Gay man traveling with little girl" aspect is a bit less weird than "Gay man traveling with a little boy", if only due to traditional preconceptions.
#3B. RuPaul is GAY! GAY GAY GAY! SO GAY! He is so gay even his character in this is gay! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Okay. I understand and acknowledge that alone is enough to turn some people off (and others... on, bazinga), but I don't know that it's a reason to twist the premise into immediately trying to turn the kids (and frogs) gay. If it is content you don't like or agree with, absolutely do not watch it. Don't be a dick though and just complain and complain into the void forever. I don't like anything Harry Potter-related. I never did. I just avoid it. I don't go around looking up Harry Potter articles to bitch & moan about.
#3C. It's not a kids show. See:
Entertainment Weekly
“This show isn’t about a drag queen in a kids show. This is about a kid in a drag queen’s show. It’s edgy, and it has some dark themes in there,”
RuPaul previously told Vanity Fair about the series. “It was something I was eager to explore. To prove to myself that I’m not dead inside. I proved to myself that I could pull those emotions up. It’s intoxicating.”
So this is more like a
Leon: The Professional (
Drag Queen) or (
Ride the)
Poltergeist or
The Road (
to GAAAAAAAAY) or any number of other ADULT movies/shows with ADULT content that feature child/kid actors.
In summation, this is an OP posted in bad faith (lol). Almost none of the facts are true, and it just seems to push the narrative of "Drag, EWWW!" which, personally, I think is an okay opinion to have, but isn't really productive, and is even less so when backed up with made up facts presented as truth.
