Netflix's The Witcher Teaser Trailer

It looks terrible. Too... american? Like a crappy game of thrones clone. Literally has none of the novels tone, Slavic setting, mood of everyday life being overwhelmed by the war and bad times. Characters are so unauthentic it hurts. Its almost like an american got the books transcribed to him, and he understood fraction of it and turned into a crappy modern action drama with no substance to it.

what the hell happened to Triss?

otherwise it looks promising.

and you base that on a 2 minute trailer? ok lmfao.

OK, that sold me. Not perfect but much better than I thought.

I had concerns about Yen, but she at least made me think she can pull the character off.
Cavill is still huge, that arm shot was crazy, in contrast to being wiry or coiled muscle.
Ciri actually looked young.
Some of the monster teases were bit 'hmmmm' - not sure how they're going to look in scene.

I didn't realise how off the casting was until I watched this trailer. Henry is actually the best fit for his role (should be dubbed by Mads at least though), all the others feel like they were picked at random.

Honestly, it looks like a high production value fan film. I also didnt get the feeling from this trailer that this show is about Geralt at all.

I'm getting a lot of "eh" vibes from this. It looks very generic medieval fantasy, and doesn't feel very evocative of the Witcher universe.

This image sums up my feelings towards this perfectly.

Couldn't have said it better.
Both in terms of the awful color grading, as well as environmental design, it looks like some generic classic high-fantasy LOTR'esque world. I would have expected something much more.. low-key fantasy. Dark, grey'ish colors, with a worn down, starved world.
The other obvious issues (cast, CGI) don't help much either.

It's not easy to do a TV show about a franchise that's already so established in literature and games but I think this looks really good. I'm excited and hope we will have a good show for many seasons to come. Well done.

That's exactly the point. If you want to do a fresh book adaption, fine, take some liberty with casting. But Witcher games sold millions of copies all over the world, were exceptionally well received and praised for character writing, design and VOs. You can't just shit on all of that.

I loved Witcher 3, it's probably the game I've played most this generation but I don't mind them doing their own thing in the TV series. You still have the characters, the world, different factions and a story you will feel familiar with. Give it a season, I'm sure it will grow on you eventually.

I need something after vikings and game of thrones and this looks very good.. please be good lol

I'm surprised, it looks really good. I don't really like the casting and the forced "diversity", but in the end it's about the acting. If the actors can nail the characters that will end up as a non-issue to me.

Idk, I think His Dark Materials looks waay more interesting and better, but thats isnt about a video game adaption
i'm WAY more excited for His Dark Materials. Those books are brilliant yet with The Witcher the books bored me to death. The fact is that The Witcher wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for what CD Projekt Red done with the games.

I'm excited for both TV shows and I do think Witcher will be more popular and is more likely to be "the next GoT". HDM is fantastic but there isn't as much source material to work with compared to Witcher unless they end up adapting La Belle Sauvage + Secret Commonwealth + Book of Dust 3. I think HDM is planned for 6 seasons (not 100% sure) which is concerning since there are only 3 books unless they split each book into 2 seasons or plan on adding Book Of Dust trilogy.

The good thing about both these shows is that the books are out unlike ASOIAF. Well, Secret Commonwealth isn't out but it's coming this year and I expect Pullman will get BoD3 out before GRRM gets Winds of Winter out and well before season 6 airs (if it's based on BoD3). Anyway, HDM is only based on Northern Lights/Subtle Knife/Amber Spyglass. Book Of Dust trilogy isn't confirmed to be part of this series.

Watching it again. It would have been nice if everything wasn't as grey.
Hopefully at some point someone in charge of these movies and Tv shows figures out you can make a dark and "mature" world that still has color in it

You mean you didn't see Triss?

Didn't someone make a thread a whole ago about Redheads getting nerfed or replaced. From MJ in Spiderman to the Little Mermaid.
They can add this one to the list lol.

My mental image of her is definitely the one from the games but to my knowledge she is also described as an attractive redhead in the books, right?

Looks way better than I expected after that first Geralt teaser, still , some of the actress choices are not entirely satisfying but that won't be a deal breaker on it's own..

More redhead genocide:

Looks fine. I'm interested. Hopefully the last few seasons will go better than GoT.

I forgive you for dropping Superman, Henry.

The Russian comments under the video are pretty rough...

Lots of complaining about Yen and Triss being ugly.

And some nasty comments about black people being in the show.

I don't care about being nitpicky. Yen is still hot so that works for me.

He used a potion to fight that spider!

I want to believe this is going to be awesome.

Dem Billion dollaz $$ put into work..that's for damn sure.

Netflix put their money where their mouth is. When they want something, they are throwing bank to get it. Rumor has it, they gave 100 million for the first season of House Of Cards. When it comes to big money deals like this, Netflix is doing something unheard of in the medium.

Just a taste of some of the wildest Netflix deals.

That 150 million is rumored to really be 200 million and that is JUST HER BASE SALARY, they said "to start" lol So they wanted Ms.Thursday night, they got her.

Crazy right? Then you get this

lol

Then

Then

and

They are not shy about getting content and will put up to get it. Trust me, HBO, AMC and many more likely were in talks to get Witcher series....how many of them are legit looking to REALLY fund it and pay the real price to produce that type of content?

I think this looks terrible. I watched this and then rewatched the Sword of Destiny W3 trailer and frankly, I'd rather watch that as a show.

Ummm surrrre. At this point, must just don't listen to religious fans. They see 30 seconds of something and then start to rant about the authenticity of the buttons of shirts, start complaining that the mist in the forest is not of the real density that it is in the book, subjective junk like "mood" which btw none of us are in your head, we know not of your "mood" as you can feel this way about basically anything anyone makes about The Witcher. So from what I've seen, people like this are to be ignored big time.

No show was ever going to help you bud, you've created the perfect show in your mind and even the hardcore fans will disagree with you as...guess what? They've created the um "best one" in their minds too.

When you go hard edge like this, people tend not to really take it seriously. This is season 1 of which could be several seasons and years of a show, that in 2 minutes you are trying to judge "substance". Keep in mind, we can't speak about what you see in "mood", we can on physical things. What in this is like "Game Of Thrones" that actually doesn't apply to the actual source material of both books? So to say this is like Game Of Thrones is to say the same thing about the book itself. Its beyond moot. We get it...BOTH Game Of Thrones and Witcher by default will be similar as they are in settings that are....well similar. It would be like saying Game Of Thrones show is trying to be like Lord Of The Rings film (ignores source material)

You're right. I was trying to be optimistic but that's what was bugging me. The books paint a grim, war torn world, while this looks too clean, almost like that awful Shannara adaptation (how in the balls did that mess get two seasons, they ruined every good part of the books)

"looks too clean" Based on what specifically? As in what are you seeing that must not be clean?

The people and the armor come to mind. It's all burnished, polished, not well worn and used. The Witcher took place in a land where everyone was sick and tired of the war and peasants were little more than chattel.

I dunno. Something like this a bit.

"The people" oh so everyone? So the kings, queens and all the royal families and everyone in high society had dirt all over and? So it makes sense on what I've seen on why some of those "people" don't look that way as this trailer is about the main folks in the series, many who are not that poor. The first seconds of the trailer you clearly can see some filthy people and peasants, they don't look um "clean" to me. Save it to when you can actually see "everyone" vs a 2 min trailer. It just makes no sense to nit pick such a thing.

That would be why I'm waiting to see more. We're here to discuss the trailer because that's all we have. Chill.
