New Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay - "Officer Down"

Perhaps not but the basic layer will be there and I guess they will use compute instead of Jaguar cores. I don't know for sure about the avanced GPU Physx effects, usually they require CUDA (so Geforce exclusive) but who knows, that could change. I'm not disputing the fact that GPU Physx makes a difference.

I guess we will see that when Nvidia will start promoting Arkham Knight and bundle it with their 960 / 970 / 980 / Titan X cards.

The face and eye effects wouldn't necessarily require re-authoring by artists. The shader could simply fall back to something else on PS4, I'll grant you that it's the msot likely one to be included on all platforms though (or at least PS4).

The nvidia effects in all the Batman Arkham games has been a pretty amazing showcase. I'd expect the same in this new one, but I have no idea what to expect from the features outside of the big improvements using physx in prior games.

Face works and turbulence sound like fun additions but I have no idea what they would end up looking like

Yeah I suspect Batman games have been heavily tipping the scale in Nvidia's favor in regards to overall GPU marketshare. No wonder Rocksteady and Nvidia have such a good relationship (Nvidia's deep pockets surely must help).
Regarding rain effects do you read german ?

Google translate tells me rain in this game flows differently depending on the physical properties of surfaces. I immediately assumed this is what rain effects were.

Well we are still taking about two sets of assets. That's expensive so Rocksteady could only implement such a tech if they could recoup the investment on three platforms.
If Nvidia pays for everything then my theory does not hold up to scrutiny.

so an evolution of the tech used in Arkham Origins? Sounds good.

Batman games always get me giddy because of the physx. I can't be the only idiot that ran in circles in the dust clouds in Origin.

I've watched this footage four times now. Safe to say I'm fucking hyped for this. Love this series so much.

Really?!

Guide lines which show where the enemy will take a turn during a chase on the streets?

What's the point of that? A car chase is all about unpredictability vs the attempt to correctly asses the next move in order to catch the runaway!

The game looks great and fun to play, but this one thing is really annoying to see.

Yeah, I agree. I hate hand-holding like this in games. Hopefully we can turn that shit off.

audio at the start feels like it's been put through a radio filter, no weight to it and no atmospheric sfx just some strings.

where's the sound of rain?!

I'm in on day one, but I really hope that someone mods Batman's model to look more like the Origins version. It seems like Rocksteady used Clint Howard as a model for Bruce in this game, and while I'm all for the dude getting more work, it just looks a little off to me.

Yeah it seems that way, but the translation leaves much to be desired:

"but eventually for exactly these delicacies you have an expensive gaming PC and not just noodling on the PS4 or Xbox One."

They seem to suggest these are all PC exclusive features, but things might have changed since then.

Wish my wife was nearby to give me a proper German translation though. It looks like rain will accumulate into puddles, will interact with surfaces differently depending on the material and the angle of the surface. Slowly for skin, faster for say batman's cape. PRetty cool tech, you gotta hand it to Nvidia, AMD certainly isn't making it easy for devs to produce stuff like this, and eventually, even fi not now, it shoudl trickle down to consoles, even if it's at lower settings.

So, the new gritty direction Rocksteady wanted to go is to have Batman indiscriminately breaking the hands of immobilized thugs who are already at his mercy?

Yes, Rocksteady, Batman breaking the hand of a guy who already gave him the information he needed sounds just like something the Caped Crusader would do.

I don't remember Origins featuring rain tech, unless you are referring to something else.
I also very much appreciate Nvidia's involvement in previous entries of the series.

Sound is something that is grossly, grossly overlooked by developers these days. It's just as important as visuals imo. Especially for building atmosphere or depth to a game world, or portraying a certain tone.

Lots of shimmering, but daammmmn, the gameplay looks absolutely amazing.

Are there custom suits in the game? Cause i'm not a big fan of the suit right now.

Yes, Rocksteady, Batman breaking the hand of a guy who already gave him the information he needed sounds just like something the Caped Crusader would do.

He always did that in previous games though. He would ask the guy a quesiton, he would answer, and then he'd knock him out with an elbow to the ehad.

Video game Batman is a thug, for sure, nothing like the cartoons. But that's ok, I've made my peace with it.

Many different versions of Batman bro. He is more and less brutal depending on which creative team. It is the norm with such a long-running character, get used to it.

Origins brought over the cool fog/smoke effects, but the impressive new tech there was the snow turbulence (holy shit the number of snow particles in some places were unreal!), and how it affected his cape while glding/movign around, and of course the snow tessellation stuff.

I loved climbing up on something after beating a bunch of criminals about, to look at the deformed snow! You could see the way the battle evolved written in the footprints and depressions of the snow.

Really neat, immersive touch.

Damn it, now I want to re-install.

was thinking about the snow and how they interacted with batman's cape when he glides.

What the hell? Why don't they get the comic book writers to do this?
Batman can beat up mooks in game-play but the story beats should be Morrison grade!

Writing good comics doesn't necessarily translate into being good at writing video games. We just need better video game writers who are allowed more control over the game's overall pacing.

Yeah I don't know what that means either, but if we are assuming taking into account past Gameworks games then nearly every of those features will be exclusive to PC. But I don't see why Nvidia would support consoles with Gameworks if devs didn't want to add those stuff to console versions as well. Makes no sense so it seems likely to me that faceworks and rain effects will be on all platforms (and the basic Physx).

Don't be too hard on AMD, they don't have as much ressources as Nvidia but their partnerships are still fruitful.

as thinking about the snow and how they interacted with batman's cape when he glides.
Alright I see what you mean now. Indeed the snow flakes reacted to wind, geometry, and batman's force field.

The snow deformation was on consoles but they improved the tech using tessellation on PC. Turbulence will most likely be used for Batman's car smoke, like Project CARS.

Yeah, Paul Dini wrote the first two games and we all know how well that worked out...

Game stories need people like Druckman who have a good understanding of game development as well as writing talent.

Oh I found a video of the Nvidia Turbulence effects that will be in Batman Arkham Knight

Neat! I'm still waiting for games to fully incorporate nvidia flex rather bthan pieces of it, or at least something equivalent. That stuff looks amazing. Here's a video of some of the features

Friggin awesome, I cant wait! If I had to nitpick tho the game definitely looks a bit more rough from the previous gameplay stuff that we've seen.

I thought "Even the odds" meant he was going to call in Nightwing or Robin, not the Batmobile. :(

The game needs to hurry up and release.

Man, you can tell the engine is showing its age. Despite that, I think it still looks great, although I am not accustomed to seeing that standard batman floaty combat with these new polished graphics. If anything, it takes me out of the experience.

Batman is prophet , not exactly thrilled with the writing calibre but hopefully they can pull off a decent story.

I am quite underwhelmed...

After 3 games using the exact same core gameplay...

Here it is, exactly the same old thing, with some fancy camera effect (that might not make it to full game or outside of scripted events).

Looks virtually the same to me, and sure it can be fun, but I already feel like I played the game.

The graphics are also very disappointing minus the batmobile. But that's my fault cause I played the past games on PC maxed out, so I guess i shouldn't have expected too much... But still :/ ...

I'll still buy it, and I know i'm probably alone thinking that, but i'm a little disappointed.

Whaaaaaa
How can you not like Conroy?

In my childhood I watched TAS in Spanish. I have no nostalgia for Conroy. He's better in the cartoons though.

I love how batman keeps using the baseball bat he takes during combat.

In the previous games he'll disarm and use weapons for one move, but he just goes to town here.

I'm going to spend a stupid amount of time playing the combat challenge maps.

Edit: Actually can somebody make a gif of that part. Pretty please.
