We've only seen like the first level. :lol

but it's not just that really, it's the whole art direction of the game. remind me of that VGcats comic with the "real is brown". i'm not saying it should be sunshine and rainbows but... geez.

See, now you're just obviously being a dick.

If this game fails--and focus group trash made by third-rate devs like this always does--what're the chances that we'll see a real (made in-house) Bionic Commando sequal in the next twenty year? Just about zero.

So no I'm not being a dick, I'm being realistic.

Oh yeah, obviously this game that has been played by no one, and is being developed by masters of the art form, is unworthy of holding so sacred a name as "Bionic Commando." We wouldn't want to use that name, "Bionic Commando." That's like building a Chik-Fil-A on Indian burial ground. Think about it; it's a military guy - a commando, if you will - who is PART MACHINE, or to use a term of the art: bionic. Thus, Bionic Commando. This is a concept so serious, revelatory and deserving of absolutely the most tender care that it's hardly worth trying. No, Capcom. Put your tens of millions of dollars and experienced development team to rest. I don't feel we are any more worthy to play such a game than you are to make it.

If you're really a fan of an under-rated Capcom game like P.N. 03, the least you could do is give this game more of a chance.

Did you just call GRIN masters developers? :lol :lol :lol

It isn't being developed by Capcom, much less being directed by Shinji Mikami. It's being developed by a crappy Swedish developer.

CapGod

Name me one mistake Capcom did this gen.

I dare you, I double dare you motherfuckers.

Farming this title out for one. There is a better then average chance that it will suck.

Dead Rising and Lost Planet are another. Personally, I would have rather they began this gen by doing what they did last gen by making some kickass action titles like Onimusha or DMC instead of B grade fare like Chaos Legion and PN03.

No new Onimusha announcement. Not releasing Basara 2 in N. America. General lack of output from the Japanese studios compared to last gen. Showing us 90% of DMC4's story a month before the game even launches.

I'm a hardcore Capcom fan but they've made plently of mistakes so far. The one good thing they did was courting the Xbox fanbase which also happens to be a pretty vocal bunch. I know I can live with the CapGod comments a lot better then the whole, 'Capcom is going the way of Sega,' and 'Capcom is being bought by :insert company of choice,' idiocy from last gen.

I still don't understand the dreadlocks if he's spossed to be the original BC guy. I would have preferred the traditional "white guy" (lack of a better term) hair cut on the bottom row, or even the Kazuya brush back look, like he had in the original (I believe). I'm just so, so, very happy they didn't go with the redneck stache and cowlick dew. Thank you Capcom (and that other company), Eddie Gordo will do just fine.

There was allegedly a good reason for the dreads, as they wanted something that'd enhance the feeling of movement as the dude swings through the world. The dreads let them do that, while avoiding a hairband style.

Holy crap man. You need some priorities in your life. You're acting as if this game killed you family.

Video Games = Serious business.

GRIN has kind of made a name for itself based on its tech though. Going back to Ballistics, that was a showcase for the Geforce 3, and GRAW for PC was one of the first games to utilize the PhysX hardware. I think they know what the game needs.

Yeah, Ballistics was one of the best looking games I'd ever seen at the time it came out. Fine gameplay too, for a futuristic-racing-in-tubes game... it got pretty hard at anything above Easy though. Oh well, it was cool, and so was the arcade version.

Between my liking that game (and thus thinking that GRIN was definitely a quality developer) and that I love Bionic Commando (though the GBC game is my favorite of the series, not the original one)this game has promise, and everything I've seen of it seems to show that it's living up to it. It's looking great... :)

The only thing I'd change is include the male or female commando choice you had in Bionic Commando: Elite Forces for GBC, but the game looks pretty good as it is.

You're either a fantastic weeaboo or looking for a tag, I can't decide.

Pointing out that a crappy Swedish developer is making the game is tantamount to acting like my family was just killed?

Holy crap you exaggerate!!111oneone11! One.

You lads getting upset and name calling because I'm criticizing a game that you think you may like. And better still, the irony is completely lost on you. :lol

This abortion they're calling Bionic Commando.
GremlinInTheMachine said:
Still looks like an abortion. Hopefully a new virulent strain of the plague will find its way into GRIN's offices before this "game" is released.

We've seen 1 level of this game and your crying how it's an "abortion". And GRIN may not be an IW or Bungie, but they know there tech and GRAW for PC was pretty well received. We've seen it in motion and it looks great. It seems to have some elements of the oringal while exapnding on it's foundation as well. Did you expect to make a 2d sprite based side scroller?

I'm just saying you are severely over reacting with your hatred when we haven't seen a lot of the game at all.

I can't believe you would type this and not realize how it applies to you.

And where the hell is the irony in people being upset that you're harshing on a game they might like?

I don't like the dreads. I haven't listened to the podcast (I never listen to podcasts about a particular game or from a single gaming company) so I'm not sure if it's customizable, but I really hope so.

Besides that, this is one of my top 5 most anticipated titles coming up. With this, SFIV, RE5, and DMC4 among other things, how can anyone deny that Capcom's on fire?

The only thing that saddens me is that we'll likely not get the NES version on VC. I'd expect that to show up as bonus content or XBL instead. The classic controller is the only current one that I"d even want to touch that with.

Junk developer + extensive focus group testing + ugly art direciton + extreme deviation from source material + likely the franchise's last shot at being revived = Abortion

My position is fully justified. You guys see it as just another possibly okay game coming down the pipeline. I know it's the likely death of the Bionic Command franchise. That's the critical difference.

Now then if you'll excuse me, I need to find a goat and a voodoo priestess. Mr. Judd and I have some unfinished business.

Have you ever even PLAYED one of GRIN's games or are you just insulting them because the game isn't being made internally by Capcom? It sure sounds like it's the latter... calling GRIN a "junk" developer is ridiculous.

I was referring to your vehement disgust with a game you haven't played. Easily as silly as people's distaste for your disgust with a game you haven't played, but since you were the first offender, I hardly see what license you have to cackle about "irony."

Hahahaha. Yes, the game industry certainly doesn't have a crippling addiction to creating sequels and remakes of just about any old trash it can dig up! At worst, we wouldn't see another Bionic Commando for another 10-15 years, though I think the concept and gameplay videos have been appealing as hell so far, enough to sell the title beyond the crowd who are even aware of the original. I have no idea why you're putting the original game on such a pedestal anyway, especially its almost non-existent aesthetic.

Frankly I'll take GRINs effort instead of what Capcom would have done otherwise: a messy XBLA port of the NES game with 90s-era emulation filtering and dodgy controls. It's fairly obvious now that Capcom JPN wants to push only a few of its modern brands and spend the rest of their efforts on new IP. Look at the (well-documented)uphill struggle to get older titles like Megaman Legends onto anything other than cellphones, and the work it took to greenlight Street Fighter IV. Capcom of America have done a fine job in getting this title off the ground, as well as their work on western-centric titles like Harvey Birdman and their work with Udon on Street Fighter. But hey, keep crying about how GRIN will bury the franchise whenever the bloody owners of the IP were content to bury it.

Ha, ha, ha! I supouse you're joking. If not you can also go out and look for the chainshawed Mikami's head. Stop trolling, please.

For everyone who asked, Bionic Commando isn't using Lost Planet engine. Lost Planet used Capcom's multiplatform MT framework engine (same as Dead Rising or Devil May Cry 4). It's being developed by Grin, but they are assisted by Capcom of Japan (designers, R&D and producers like Keiji Inafune). Bionic Commando is using a new multiplatform engine made by Grin (helped by Capcom).

Meh, I'm not impressed so far. I loved the original Bionic Commando, but I don't see the appeal of this generic looking action game just yet.

Probably one of my most anticipated games of this year. My only concern is that it doesn't live up to the quality of the past game, which is, like somebody already mentioned, the best platformer ever after Mario. I don't trust the developer of this, I'd rather have the Japanese branch handle the game. The IP is great though, and I hope they still keep the awesome platforming instead of turning it into another generic shooter.

GRAW on PC is a much better game than P.N. 03. You are just being an idiot, seriously.

Ok, I give up. What the hell does that say? I like megatons.

Yeah, I know, waiting sucks, but at least having something to look forward to is good, right? Ben Judd, producer of Bionic Commando, has recently stated in an email that January will be the month that they speak of their big self proclaimed “megaton” announcement for Bionic Commando. The only clue to what this announcement will be is that he states that “Fans of the series are sure to love this!”.

Start your guessing engines. Xbox Live Arcade/PlayStation Network remake of the original (Capcom sure love their HD remixes!)? Or maybe a Nathan “Rad” Spencer plushie toy including working grappling hook for all pre-orders? Who can say, although my guess is on the later (ok, not really).

As promised, there is more. You can now check out the fully functional Bionic Commando community website, and also pick up their “Top Secret: The Bionic Commando Podcast”...podcast.

Anyway, as soon as we know more on this “megaton” announcement we’ll let you know!

They have a poll up on the Bionic Commando website about what the megaton is -- I'm going with a Wii version of the game.

This IS Capcom, right?

That makes sense. People really need to look beyond the hair.

A Wii version would definitely be interesting. Something like Samus' grappling hook from Metroid Prime Corruption, only more evolved.

Any word on when this "megaton" is to be revealed?
