So was the information about the Soviets, splicer dogs, squid battles, et al, all FAKE? And are the new bits about you being a Big Daddy and such real?

Was MP confirmed? I hope not, the game defiantly doesn't need MP.
Yes. It is confirmed in new details. See post # 679

Yes. It was fake. There are scans out there that confirms some of new information. So I assume whatever else mentioned is true.

Shacknews title aside, I'm not sure what to think about the little details they provide in the article. From what it says, I'm smelling a fair amount of escort missions. Bleagh.
You're not escorting anything.
You're protecting her as she gets the Adam. You choose where and when, because she rides on your back/shoulder.

I just saw the scans and...
You're the first ever Big Daddy? What? How can it be set after if you're the first? Also does the drill mean no normal weapons? Or do you play the Big Daddy in prequel sections and a normal guy in the sequel sections?
Youre the first of renegade Big Daddies.

How long does it take to complete?

Not using the vitachambers (just reloading) I think I clocked about 19 hours first playthrough.

Definitely was searching for all of the audio tapes (which IMO is the best part of the game). Didn't get them all.

Sorry for sounding stupid but:

So, are you like, a big, fat, slow big daddy, or some agile prototype or what? I didn't particularly like the way "playing" as a big daddy in the first game was potrayed.

also, I tried to find scans, but I swear I'm looking at fan-made images or something. Anyone can PM me or?

No wait, how's possible that
the daddy can even conceive to harvest a sister?
Something's missing here.

Also, wtf,
using plasmids??
How's possible? A LOT is missing here.

That's because it was tacked on. I'm sure they wouldn't have you playing as a Big Daddy if it felt as cumbersome as it was in the first game.

Woah. Was not expecting that at all. Totally out of left field.

I think its nice that they are trying to mix things up, and not just remake the first game to look prettier. Its something thats interesting.

Does anyone know when the magazine actually hits shelfs? All the info is kinda fuzzy right now. I mean, how could you
play as a Big Daddy
and have Co-op?

I'm pretty sure there won't be co-op.

Edit: I hope the website is building to something. There's only one more update to go, right? Hopefully it's a trailer or something.

So basically everything from yesterday (the NYC thing, the Zoo section, Co-op, gene sliced dogs and Russians) was all bullshit?

Basically. Big relief, eh?
I think the Zoo level is a good idea, though.

Thank god the original rumors were fake. Sounded so dumb.

Maybe you're a prototypical Big Daddy that didn't go through all of the mind control conditioning or dumbing down. I hope we get to meet Suchong in the prequel bits.

Perhaps you are the big daddy that killed Suchong?

Well, I take it you're not playing as a "large" big daddy. I mean, based on the pics I've seen you're about the same size as a regular person -- this is a good thing, because what I worried about after hearing the news was that you'd have little agility and be, well, loud and slow.

I take it the prototypes or original big daddys weren't far off from just human size.

Being a Big Daddy seems like a disappointing way to continue the story. But then again, the story wasn't exactly meant to be continued.

This game seems to be very different in the story/atmosphere front, and that was what I enjoyed most about Bioshock.

These guys made one of the best games of all time and you people doubt them? I predict a demo that blows everyone away like the first one did :D

I'm thinking this too. It's not farfetched to expect he'll have varied skills and moves differently than the other Daddies
since he's the original, and that the ones that were produced later were dumbed down (maybe because of what happened with this one that went renegade).

Even if it's not the case, I'm sure the gameplay will be better developed
than the Big Daddy sections in the first game.

Oh god, now we're down to jounalists/critics using the old "if you can do it better, do it yourself" defense?

No bitching about hospitals cutting off the wrong foot, guys! If you can't do the surgery yourself, you're not allowed to complain!

So fucking lame.

man, this news is really confusing me.

at first blush, i don't like the idea of being a big daddy. the premise seems off. and the image on the GI cover seems too forced to me.

but, on the other hand, i applaud the devs for going in a completely different direction than the first game...

looks like i'll just have to wait till real gameplay footage comes out to get a better idea for how they're implementing all this.

There are some gameplay screenshots around. It looks just like Bioshock.

Well, that's no surprise, right? Isn't this using the same engine as the first?

I think he meant more in terms of gaining insight as to the narrative based on footage.

I need to see it in action. how is movement affected (if at all)? what are standard missions like in the game?

and, of course, what's the pacing and vibe? yes, i did read that it's supposed to be scarier than the first but let's see how they accomplish that.

edit. yeah, what Falvius said :)

Being a Big Daddy is not even the story, it’s the premise.

Story-wise, a lot is going to depend on how they’re going to explain why you’re a rogue Daddy, and why the Big Sister is now the evil ruler of Rapture. It could be brilliant, but it could also turn out cheesy as fuck. Without Ken Levine, who knows what they’ve come up with.

So you're a Big Daddy throughout the whole game or are there 2 main characters (one being the detective who's investigating the little girl kidnappings)?

You're a Big Daddy throughout the whole game, from what we can tell.

And I just found out that Dr. Tenebaum IS involved in this game.

well, considering who the new director is, I don't think that'll be something to worry about.

The former. Soviets, bipedal robots, giant enemy squids... All bullshit.

The website has been updated again. Mark Meltzer is planning on a stake out near St. Johns in New Brunswick, based on the Big Sister's recent pattern of abductions. Judging from this, it looks like the website will be updated one more time.

I'm not too impressed by the new info. Playing as a renegade Big Daddy sounds so clichéd. I'd like to see them focus on the angle of people from the real-world discovering and exploring rapture which the viral site hints at. Battling this Big Sister could be good though, she sounds like Nemesis from RE3, a constant threat which could attack at any time.

Also the harvest/adopting mechanic sounds a little strange, once you get a Little Sister, can you keep adopting them, are you limited to one at a time or can you have an army of little sisters following you around?

I'm not going to get too excited about this just yet.

All of this Bioshock 2 news has spurred be to do a second playthrough of Bioshock. This time I'll be playing with V-Sync off. The game is so much smoother without it!

I finally got the mag :D

So far, things are looking really good. I was, at first, hesitant about being a Big Daddy, but their approach to it is really awesome, and they know the pitfalls associated with being the character in question.

I like the fact that you can now combine your plasmids with your weapons, as opposed to the "one or the other" paradigm. It'll add for extra depth in combat. Plus, the choice to focus on new and innovative weapons that are suited to the Daddy as opposed to the typical shotgun, pistol, etc will be interesting to say the very least.

One thing I wanted desperately wanted was more agility and speed than we saw from the "impersonation" in the last game, and I think we got it. The prototype Big Daddy you play is "less bulky" than the ones you see, so the balance there should be spot on. I also wanted full-body awareness; according to the article, we've got it.

The example in the article concerning a run-in with the Big Sister sounded harrowing and fast-paced. I can't wait to see something like that in action.

Overall, I'm 99.8% satisfied with the direction they're going in. The last .2 percent remains as simply unknowns (multiplayer, etc). Their focus, though, is on the SP experience, and that's exactly the way it should be. Jordan, as expected, knows what's up, and BioShock 2 should be no less than a very, very unique adventure back into Rapture. Can't wait for more info :D

Sweet, and this is all nice to hear, but this got my attention. You can combine plasmids with weapons? Sounds awesome. So there will be regular weapons like the shotgun and such or will there be special weapons like a Big Daddy version of the shotgun?

Did they say anything about how much you can manipulate your environment?

Since the Lost Planet 2 reveal all other reveals are weak sauce anyway.

I hope we get a gameplay video from GDC.

BioShock is leagues ahead of Lost Planet. I don't know whats so special about Lost Planet ?

I saw the "scans" (photos of the mag taken by a drunk, blind man with a mobile phone-camera from 1997) and from what I could tell it looks great.

I figure he would not be like the regular big daddies,I bet he can talk as well.
