New BIOSHOCK 2 Teaser Site Launches

Unless they plan a summer release like Bioshock 1. Wasn't that in August?
Yeah.

They could still put it out this fall for sure, but they've got stiff competition from a couple of guaranteed mega hits in the same genre.

Maybe they could sneak it out late September this year, that'd be awesome.

Yes I remember it well, I loved '07. Bioshock, Halo 3, COD 4, Mass Effect all came out roughly a month apart.

Might even repeat the pattern this year with the sequels.

Come on man.

I hope this game comes out this year. Another late summer release would be great. It's the perfect way to end the summer drought.

I think it'll slip to 2010. Going up again COD4-2 and Halo 3:ODST this fall might hurt sales.
I don't think they are similar at all.

The 12 year old kids who will play the shit out of COD4rehash and Halo3unecessaryexpansion are in a different market to the mature story and gameplay of bioshock.

I see it as definitely being a September/October release.

Nor do I, but they're all shooters. And Take Two are competing for people money, I wouldn't want to be up against Halo and CoD, outside of GTA they're the biggest IPs in gaming right now.

Even Assassin's Creed 2 is bound to move a few million units this xmas.

I love BioShock, I think it's the best shooter this generation, but I think part of it's success was it's release window. It could have been buried alive had it shipped a couple of months later.

Would I buy it before those other games, yes, of course. But a lot of people wouldn't.

Assassin's Creed 2, Bioshock 2, and and Modern Warfare 2 are all this year?

Jeez, all we need to have an exact repeat of '07 is to have Super Mario Galaxy 2 come out in November.

I totally agree.

The release window was perfect. Right before the big boys hit, and it got to kick off the season of big fall games. Everybody was hungry.

This has been confirmed for this year?

'07 was fucking incredible.

I can't imagine a landslide like that ever being repeated.

Alongside Half-Life 2: Episode 3, God of War 3, a new WoW expansion, Portal 2, Virtua Fighter 6, TF3, Metroid Prime 4, Halo 4, Zack and Wiki 2, Fire Emblem Wii 2, another CoH expansion, etc. :/

I doubt 2007 will ever be topped, at least for me personally. Such a great year.

Assassin's Creed 2 has all but been confirmed for early 2010, not this year. I saw somebody else mention God of War 3 but that's also not coming out until 2010 either.

Where? I thought it was confirmed for fiscal 09, which lasts till March, but it still includes this year.

EDIT: To be clear, I don't doubt you, I didn't know it was fiscal 09 till I searched earlier. I can't remember where I heard it was this xmas. But now I can only find fiscal 09, not early 2010.

Yeah, just to be more specific so people know what's in the mag. I don't consider these spoilers, but read at your own will:

You're a big daddy, the original, a renegade, and your weapon set will be completely unique. You can have your weapons out and available while using your other hand for plasmids (I assume you can mix and match now; we'll see!).

Full-body awareness is in. Like in Mirror's Edge you can look down, see your feet, etc. You're not as large as the other bid daddys, so I assume you'll move at a similar pace that you're used to.

The Big Sister is, confirmed, a little sister who came back to Rapture. She'll be a huge part of the story and the primary "bad guy."

That's the only info that I haven't seen widely available. It all looks fucking great, and I hate myself for doubting even slightly the team at work here. There's no mention as to whether or not you get "prequel" segments in the game. My bet is that you'll pick up radio shit to learn about yourself as a character. In general, it all sounds fucking fantastic. It sounds a little like you'll move from level to level by walking on the ocean floor, but that's just a guess. You'll definately be able to go out into the ocean though.

I hope that we hear more about the Meltzer guy some how. I hope he's a main character in the game or something.

A brief segment in the article described the arrival of a Big Sister. You see a glowing red light, and the Big Sister can literally jump around from one side of the room to another, hit you with her "Adam Stinger", etc. She sounds fucked up and awesome.

Time to replay BioShock.

You have nothing to fear. From the sound of things in the article, you're basically a big mistake. A big daddy who has access to plasmids, is more agile, etc. You're just like the character in the first game, really: a creation of Rapture's scientists who went wrong, and you're "smart." You're out there, taking out Big Daddys, perhaps the Big Sister. Yes, you're a big daddy, but there's a story here to tell, and being a Big Daddy -- the original -- is as good as any a device to tell it.

It's difficult to control something that's not "dumb", and so, I assume the Big Daddy you're playing as is something that maintains some of its humanity. It obviously has goals -- afterall, there's a game to beat here ;)
I'd spoiler this certain part about a character if I were you.

Do you think if you adopt a little sister she'll watch you harvest others or would she leave you?

She does it for you. If you adopt her, she'll ride on your shoulders and grab adam for you. When shes collecting, you have to protect her from splicers trying to get to her.

He's wondering about seeing other little sisters when you've already got one.

I don't remember seeing any residential areas in the 1st Bioshock aside from maybe a few main character's offices/sleeping quarters. Hopefully it makes it into a level in the sequel.

That could make for a great creepy atmosphere.

It was before you went on the bathysphere to the final area. It was optional.

I really hope this comes out this year. I just finished Bioshock for the first time and all of the news has me incredibly hyped.

The design of the Big Sister is freaking awesome. :O

You have a flashlight in this one!? Fuck yes. Hype through the roof.

I remember the apartments, but I like the idea of an underwater, bubbled suburb. Rapture was huge and it seems like there would be room for something like that. Not only would it be fun to play in such an open area like that, it would have a real zombie movie type of vibe.

You don't remember Apollo Square and Olympus Heights? They were some of my favourite levels in Bioshock.

Jesus, I just read the story on IGN. They made it sound like the game was canceled or re-named ENTIRELY.

Simultaneous release for Xbox/PS3/PC confirmed! Also multiplayer details soon!

"After the first game's staggered arrival to the market, BioShock 2 will see a "simultaneous" release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, 2K has told CVG.

We're aiming for simultaneous release on all platforms (Xbox 360, PS3 and PC)," a company spokesperson told us, with the promise of details on the sequel's illusive multiplayer mode "soon enough". It's expected to release later this year.

I hope puzzle solving wil play a fairly large part.
After all, when the Big Daddies didn't walk around with little girls, they maintained Rapture.
I could totally see places where you should have to repair a gasline, a machine or something in order to travel further. Hopefully using Plasmids.

(I still think the whole you're a
Big Daddy
is a bad idea, though:(

monkspider, are you on the TK Bioshock forums?

I found this theory there on Big Sister that is pretty much exactly the same as yours:-

The most popular theory is that she is a "cured" LS who couldn't adjust to a normal life. So she somehow returns to Rapture to rebuild it the way she remembers, so she can go back to the only lifestyle that seems "right" to her.

Since the article confirms that she has unheard-of TK powers, and since the first teaser trailer shows a girl twitching on the beach while the cityscape rises out of the sand around her, I've added a little more to the popular theory. I think that is the girl, and the city in the sand is literal--she raised it via TK because the city haunts her dreams ("Sea of Dreams"). I think she's Massha, who's parents killed themselves, so she is in foster care. Her TK has started manifesting itself, and her dreams about Rapture plus the TK is too much. She is freaking out. And she doesn't think her foster parents are capable of understanding, so she contacts the only real mother figures she knows--Tenenbaum. The doc knows she can't help Massha unless he uses her old lab, so down they go to Rapture. But the doc accidentally unleashes the girl's full TK potential, and now Massha, who has always been under the control of others, controls everything around her. She decides she doesn't want to be "fixed" and instead uses her power to restore Rapture so things can go back to the way she remembers them.

If it's not monkspider, credit to Japester at 2K forums - I like this connection to the teaser trailer.

The residential areas were optional? They were awesome.

Oh shit I just remembered it even has Sander Cohen's room and that dance couple! :lol Good times

Pc Powerplay had a 5-pager with some new screenshots. Being able to explore the ocean outside of Rapture with the suit sounds pretty awesome, and killing something with the drill pretty much coats the screen in blood.

For someone who actually had to look away during certain parts of Finding Nemo, the deep-sea stuff worries me. I hope you don't have to spend too much time outside Rapture.

I'm worried that going out into the ocean takes away from the oppressive/ominous power it should have over you.

But then I have a lot of worries about this one. I'm going to ignore most preview material from here on out, and keep my fingers crossed for the game I think Jordan Thomas can deliver.

And then I'll write a lengthy essay about it.

The pitch black depths of the ocean is the most frightening thing I know of.

When I was a kid, my grandmother took me for a submarine ride in the Cayman Islands. The submarine stopped near the edge of a cliff, and the captain told us that it was over a kilometer straight down. I could feel the black abyss looking back at me, and it scarred me for life.
