A lot of games for Android allow you to scale graphics. Don't think Nintendo will do that though.

Looks like it's Gen I only
Something like the main games is what I wanted
I'm just guessing by all the screenshots. We have yet to see a Pokemon outside of Gen I.Do we know this for sure? Or are they just showing off Gen I Pokemon as examples?
Well not this, I guess.Yeah but what did you expect?
Sounds like a Pokemon-themed version of Ingress. Not sure if want.

What I thought, too. Right now this sounds like they took Ingress and slapped Pokemon on it.
I need actual battles against players and battling against Pokemon to catch them to even make this worth installing on my phone. How are they gonna justify, lore wise, about being able to catch Pokemon immediately without weakening them? Are we all just extremely lucky trainers? Have we been banned from battling due to some Pokemon law?
I wonder. Will they charge for this, or will they have some pay-to-whatever hooks in it? I'm assuming it'll be free, but you pay for extra/better pokeballs.

I'd be very surprised if both of these aren't in the game. They may have simplified the catching process for standard wild Pokémon, but we do see Trainers weakening Mewtwo before catching it in the initial trailer. Maybe it's only possible for rare or high-level Pokémon.
I'm surprised Trainer-versus-Trainer battles aren't mentioned on the press release, but honestly, I think they are a lock, even if they aren't like in the core games.

I'm 100% sure it'll be F2P. They could use in game advertising and your regular freemium model. I'm sure better pokeballs will cost money (or if they want to go down that route even the pokeballs themselves could cost money, like you get 5 balls a day and have to pay if you want to catch more Pokémon) and items such as a spray that would attract more Pokémon for the next x amount of time. Stuff like that.
Free-to-play but you can purchase items.
It seems to be that way for standard wild Pokémon, but we don't know how they'll handle cases like Mewtwo. The video suggested a form of battle before players manage to catch it. Though I do agree that even for standard 'mons the lack of weakening-before-catching is a bit awkward, much like their mechanic for evolution. They're altering mechanics that are staple for the series, and they haven't communicated what their approach to "training" is, if not wild Pokémon battles.Battles against wild Pokémon is not in it. We know that :/

Yeah, sounds like Pokémon Ingress alright.
If you thought they were chucking Pokémon's battle system into a Western-developed F2P mobile spinoff, you were daft.

Yup. It's Ingress with Pokemon. How is anyone shocked or disappointed by this by now? Ever since it's been announced they've described it exactly like they describe Ingress.
Hell, I bet the Wild Pokemon will just be where Ingress portals are that aren't "big" enough to be Gyms are right now.
Well... It certainly is what it is. Seems like a game that will get a lot of press initially and then sort of just drop off as people forget about it, like the TCG games on PC and iPad.
then they better let you move those pokemon to the 3ds/NX console
I wasn't expecting the Pokémon battle system.
I was expecting A battle system.
It makes sense. The only way to get people go back to locations they have already gone is to bring pokemons in generations. If every single pokemon were available from the beginning, you might go to the mountains, catch them all, and never return. They might even be sold as expansion packs.Do we know this for sure? Or are they just showing off Gen I Pokemon as examples?
Wait so you don't even get to battle anything?? Wow...
Basically like a superbowl quality commercial for a tamogachi like app that encourages you to exercise. Oh well. :/
We have Pokemon Sun and Moon to look forward to still I guess.
Mr. Masuda: Thank you, John! I'm Junichi Masuda from GAME FREAK, where I work as a game director.
I've joined this project to help with the setting, game design, and music. The day has finally come for Pokémon to make their appearance on Earth! Pokémon live in all manner of places around the world. Players will search for them, catch them with Poké Balls and use them to battle each other. We're making a game that has depth within its simplicity, and hope it will be a game that's enjoyable by players of a wide range of ages. In my mind, Pokémon are mysterious creatures that aren't like pets, but are closer to humans and can be our friends. What kind of powers might these Pokémon have? Where would they live? I'm hard at work alongside Niantic to bring out the untapped possibilities of Pokémon, and in order to do so, we're not limiting ourselves to adhering to the traditional conventions of Pokémon.
+Catching the same Pokemon over and over to evolve them. Ewwww
Yes, you do get to battle. 100% guarantee.
SMH guys, put some trust that TPC knows what they're doing.
Yes, there will be battles. Players will be encouraged to join one of three teams in order to compete over the ownership and prestige of Gyms. They will do this by placing their captured Pokémon in a friendly Gym or by battling with an opponents Pokémon in another teams Gym. Gyms - just like PokéStops - are also found at real world locations.
And that phrase can be used to describe the gyms. Niantic's site says this
I believe if there was actual player to player battling, they would have said so.
Trades aren't mentioned either. They may not be ready to show some of the mechanics, but I'm sure they have an approach to each element of the 'catch, trade, battle' formula. Nothing suggests that Gym Battles are automatic either. I'm sure there is a battle system that can be scaled to PvP as well. It's likely going to be simplistic, but it'll be there.
