New Dragon Quest X Screenshots, Player Housing Shown

You will be able to play with one system with the another; however, I don't see why one should hold the other back. It has been brought up before, but I still not sure!

IF servers are shared, then the Wii U version will definately be held back by the Wii version since both versions of the game have to be able to run on the same server. Since the Wii will be very underpowered compared to the Wii U; it means the Wii U version of the game will not be able to use all its power to make the game look better.

Same thing happaned with FFXI with the ps2 vs. PC

Dragon Quest 8?
in DQVIII, the environment (specially plants, bushes, etc) was less realistic and the characters less cartoony, the gap was lower.

in DQX though, it is just as if the characters are from one game, and environment from another.

I must go to sleep I guess 1:30 AM :(

TBH, I know about technical details less than a pigeon, but if it had happened with XI before, then...

We haven't missed out on a mainline DQ game in the states since the days of the Super Famicom.

Wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo themselves were going to publish X outside of Japan. I think it actually has a better chance of coming outside Japan on a Nintendo system than on anything else considering the way Nintendo markets third party games.

Stop being dumb.

I think he means the Wii version will be skipped in favor of the Wii U version, which makes sense. I can't imagine a hardcore JRPG that requires monthly fees being successful at all with what remains of the NA Wii audience. Hopefully they really improve the visuals on the U though.

This doesn't look very good, the characters look really out of place with their surroundings. Also...is the combat turn based, would really suck to do group quest/dungeons if so.

Not trying to be a hater, but those screens are not really helping the game, imho.

Why does everyone still assume the game will have a subscription fee in NA/PAL regions? It's certainly possible, but I don't think it's necessarily a given.

The screens are a letdown, but I'm still going to have fun playing with friends, I think.

I just got Dragon Quest VI and IX. I'm pretty excited about Dragon Quest X. I'm happy it is coming to the Wii.

Wish they'd announce their plans for the US already.
Pretty much if they pull a MHTri sort of deal and make it free over here then I'm probably in for my first MMO, otherwise this game pretty much doesn't exist to me.

Well, with a properly designed client-server setup, there's not really any reason that this needs to be the case. The client rendering should be pretty much independent of what's actually going on in the server. FFXI has mechanics that are dependent on the timing of what's being rendered. For example, if your framerate increases, you actually run faster. As a result, FFXI on PC is still capped at 30fps.

There's also the issue of general stubbornness -- the whole "everyone should have the same experience" deal. Even taking into account stuff like the framerate cap, there's no reason that the PC version couldn't have much higher resolution textures than the console versions. They have softened on this in the past year or so, and the PC and Xbox 360 versions have indeed gotten improvements in this regard.

Of course, this all hinges on whether or not Square Enix actually learns from the past. Given what happened with FF14, it's easy to be a little skeptical.

The Wii is capable of better graphics, but like many Wii games, it'll probably look better in motion. There seems to be no lighting and shadows at all, except for the horrendous blob shadows. I think the art style is also holding it back.

Sharing the same servers won't be an issue with regards to graphics. Yes, the WiiU version has to share the same collision maps to ensure integrity is preserved, but they could still swap in higher quality models and textures and add extra stuff such as foliage and better lighting. None of that is handled by the server, but the game itself. As long as the game logic is the same, it's perfectly fine.

Though, because they must share the same collision maps, sparse areas will continue to look sparse, no matter how higher quality the models and textures are, since they can't just plop down trees or rocks or other terrain objects that won't be present in the Wii version...

The shadows really have me scratching my head. In general the lighting is incredibly bad in everything they've shown so far.
I'm happy it is coming to the Wii.
I don't mean to undermine your opinion in any way, but why?

They are about 7 years late on this MMO. This would have been neat and (sorta) interesting on the GC. What the hell does this game even offer that hasn't been done x10 in other MMOs?

Not bad, I needed a new rpg for my DS.

I don't know how anyone can look at those house screenshots and think they looks good by any standard (maybe back in the 1999/2000 PS1/DC era, but even then).

Question: I'm sure this has been discussed, but how is this game being received on forums in Japan?

As for me
The good is that there will be a story and end
The bad Square Enix way of handling the games propaganda
The ugly is its an MMO :(

God this looks horrible :( Hopefully a PC version would look better?

Is the west even gonna get this? Who would pay a monthly fee for an online DQ over here anyway?

I hope the next DQ is single player and looks on par with something like Ni no kuni.

What incredibly low standards.
If you don't know what makes Dragon Quest RPG's different from other RPG's, then you probably won't understand this either.

EDIT: Sorry if that sounds mean, but insinuating that it is low standards for someone to desire a new mainline game in a very solid series is insulting.
