New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

I know I'm probably very, very alone in this sentiment, but as someone that grew up very much in a car culture, around car "clubs" and street racing...

The hyper exotic car lineup is somewhat off putting...I would almost prefer a more normal car focus with more modifications...

Goddamn, even at 1080p it's a horrible compressed mess.
Developers shouldn't even bother because of ungrateful people like you...

At least we get to see the game for Christ's sake...the videos are PERFECTLY acceptable for getting a good feel of how the game looks...

Well phuck me that looks unexpectedly nice. damn nice.

A. very cool feature that Rushy mentioned in the IGN interview is that they're going to allow you to manually operate the McLaren P1's DRS and IPAS systems. Sim racers often times don't even allow you to control that type of functionality.

After seeing these graphics, might make the pick between this and Project cars harder. May have to get them both.

If be in mental hell if they all of the sudden decided to release a brand new Gran Turismo at the same time as well. Thank god that's not happening.

Have to disagree. It looks likt the footage was compressed mulitple times. Even 720p footage on Youtube should be able to look better than this.
If you're promoting your game or games in general i think you should investigate how to deliver the best possible quality for streaming.
This is specially aimed at IGN.

These videos are making me a believer. Whilst I prefer 60 fps eye candy like this is hard to resist. Good sense of speed coming across too.

Evo are masters of sense of speed at 30fps. The MS series was insane too. This looks really good. Also there is a lot of time for polish and Evo is known for polishing in the last few months. Its gonna look even better at release.

Motorstorm was one of the few 30FPS racing games that actually felt great to play.

I'm really pleased that DC is getting the Plus edition honestly. However the game turns out and however the PR is managed, huge swathes of Playstation 4 owners are going to get to try the game, which gives Evo and Driveclub the best chance at success. I can't wait personally, but even if you're currently unimpressed, if you have Plus you'll have a fine selection of tracks and cars to test the game fully and make your own mind up. Anyone buying the game from then can hardly complain they didn't know what they were buying into. I wonder, if Motorstorm:PR and Apocalypse had had a similar launch, if they might have been more successful?

That just sounds silly to me mate. Don't get 'that' opinion at all. ?

My point was that spilling about with eleven other players can be great no matter what the game is, nor how good it looks, or how well it plays. Even five-player Octodad would be brilliant, an all-pile-on game of Flappy Bird, two-button Micro Machines. Sports Friends.Towerfall.

Would anyone else prefer it if they dropped the 900 degree lock-to-lock steering wheel animation and opted for something more standard? It looks incredibly loose and twitchy, and i imagine it's even worse with a pad. if they made it a smaller turn to full lock, it would make the handling look and feel much tighter...like in GT.

I feel like this game shoulda been straight racer or straight SIM. I just don't know what they are going for and whatever it is, its not working

I agree to a point.

The one thing I noticed in the video which bugs me is the A.I...

They all seem to follow the same EXACT path... and when you seem to overtake a car, instead of adjusting and not hitting you, it seems to keep hitting you until it gets back into the A.I path...

Has there been any info on what the damage will be like on the cars in this game? Will there even be any? Im a sucker for realistic car damage.

With those lovely backgrounds they really need to include a free-run mode. I don't think originally that was in the plans but that may have changed.

Looking forward to this so much, have such high hopes for it. Haven't had a great amount of fun on my PS4 as yet, only really with Resogun. This game looks like it should be just my kind of racing game. Hope it plays great!

Just rewatched both and while all the AI cars do seem to attack the very same line for turns, they spread out a bit and have some personality in the straights. The AI bumped into each other, though I didn't see any aggressive overtaking among them - some did seem to make some space for the player though, if their overtaking was smooth enough - and I mean they slowed or pulled back in order to avoid colliding with the player. So the AI seems competent at least.

I don't remember if we ever got word about whether there was rubber-banding in this game or not.

One last bit: After racing plenty of Drivatars in Forza 5 I'd actually much rather have some more sedate AI drivers now (though not GT levels of sedate). What I first thought was personality and aggression when I was first starting out revealed itself as full-on chaos as I got better at the game. So, please Evo - don't feel the need to reproduce the exact behavior of the online racing gamer - because that way lies madness and destruction.

One more extra-last super bonus bit: Please Evo also provide for races with more than 2-3 laps, or let us set the lap count in the career mode ourselves. All the big circuit racing games seem to follow the same aggravating mold of putting the player in last or near last place and then asking them to get a podium finish in two laps. Its stupid, and only encourages dirty racing and bumper cars.

Looks gorgeous, the lighting, reflections and trackside detail is probably the best I've seen in a racer, the only blemish in those visuals appears to be some un-resolved shimmering on power lines.

Like the day transitions, sense of speed and environments but that is one horrible compressed video. Probably the worst I've seen in a while for next gen games.
They need to release a proper footage asap. Kind of like the hand gesture when the puff of smoke hits the windscreen.

I would really love to see what they can do with the Motorstorm IP on this generation's hardware down the line.

Think this is bad, check out their TRDE faceoff stuff. Total Fail.

I think Evolution has totally failed with the vision of this game. We heard the tracks are 5 minutes long, then what's the point of having global illumination for real time tod? No dynamic wheater, short tracks, the game seems to be missing a lot of effects...

looks very meh atm. This game is failing to capture the exciting that was present in the Motorstorm series. I mean look at these gifs

the developer failed to learn from their own past. the tracks look extreme pedestrian and boring.

Can't tell if serious. Double-especially with the bolded.

I'm guessing sarcasm, but honestly, sometimes, its hard to tell ;p

While it looks pretty, I'm disappointed that it looks like there's no destruction on the cars. Makes it feel like there bumper cars.

Looks pretty but it's a bummer to see it has Gran Turismo's car bounces where you can ride corners at full speed just by smacking into others.

Yeah, that's what annoyed me too.

DriveClub is not Motorstorm, I'm sure we will get a motorstorm sometime later on but to compare driveclub which concentrates on power cars and racing clubs against a racer which put you against the elements including wacky offroad racers is certainly not the same thing.

Yes from me on all these things too. Since they allow you to change weather/time/crowds it would be madness not to allow us to choose huge long races if we want!

And yeah I was glad to see the AI takes the driving line with a bit of mucking around, not quite as much as I would like but certainly way better than using Drivatars. Keen to see more of the AI as that's my main concern at the moment, everything else looks golden for my enjoyment.

The big deal will likely be the car list. I know some people in some circles are now interested in the game now that Ferrari is legit confirmed now.
