New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive

Because the two are completely unrelated. Completely and totally unrelated. I'm still unnerved by some of you thinking Evolution is a publisher.

How are the 2 unrelated? Their professionalism is beyond horrible. They cannot meet even the most basic of deadlines. I understand this one is not entirely on them, however their game is coming out 1 year late. Not to mention all the bizarre cryptic tweets... soon... soon again... soon again again.... within a few weeks... within a few weeks prior to e3. There's a reason this keeps happening.

Yeah!

Who do they think they are? Valve!?

So...nothing?

That's great. The fact that they can't keep such a simple promise amazes me.

I love the MotorStorm series, but no way in hell am I supporting DriveClub when it launches.

Yeah! I always base my buying decisions on the quality of pr instead of the quality of the game. It's not like I can enjoy a good game if they can't even release a video on time!

So it's Evolution's fault that Sony has been drop dropping the ball on promoting their game properly? Evo isn't in charge of showing off their videos. To say you won't support this game due to Sony's incompetence is a bit unfair to Evo.

I'd be more hyped about this IF THEY TOLD US WHAT WHEELS WE COULD USE.

I'm not buying anything on PS4 unless I get some confirmation that wheels I buy won't be utterly useless.

Not entirely on them? It's not on them at all! Rushy said in the past that Evolution doesn't control when and where new media is released. The most they can do on their own is post those little clips on Facebook like they did in the past but that still isn't going to be the HQ footage we want to see.

I don't disagree with anything being said about the marketing of this game thus far but directing your anger/annoyance at Evolution and connecting the PR with the eventual quality of the final release as if the two have even the SLIGHTEST to do with each other is where I start to laugh.

When the PS4 was announced it really felt like they'd turned the company around. Sadly we've been fooled, and they're still employing muppets instead of professionals. Wonder when I'll get my credit card information stolen again?

Better take it back before it happens again. I wouldn't take ANY chances.

That's not it. I'm just frustrated that they continue to lie to us. Not supporting a developer that does shit like this and thinks they can constantly get away with it.

Once again, it's not in Evo's hands. Sony's PR is in charge of promoting Evo's videos. So if you have to be frustrated at someone, be so at Sony. Don't take it out on Evo.

I love how Driveclub is the place for everyone to have their catharsis, ever since it was announced it's been the go-to-game for people to get their emotions out about gaming/game developers and console manufacturers.

Even just a video update has people complaining about everything from developers concentrating on graphics over frame rate to Sony as an organisation becoming arrogant again.

Holy hell, I just got a huge nostalgia rush.

I remember Blimblim talking about how PR use Youtube because it's cheap and fast + they can make profit off of traffic. He was talking about Playstation specifically, maybe even Driveclub. He tried to get raw footage but it was fruitless. I suppose Evolution could really be trying to get it out and are just as disappointed that their work is shown in imperfect youtube quality as anyone.

I do remember Rushy mentioning how Sony's PR is who chooses when/what will be shown from them. That sucks.

Before you engage in thread whining, you have to consider soony's history of empty promises concerning #DriveClub's information stream

I am aware shit happens but the amout of shit that has happend to DC in terms of broken timetables is getting a little absurd, IMO

Really isn't good enough, first we get the 4/5 5second Facebook clips which were terrible quality, to be told that we would get a full race.... That never came. Second the game gets delayed and now we are told we will have HQ footage of the same two videos, they never come.... Sony is doing a terrible job with promoting this game for Evo.

-snip
1.) cube maps - basically a 3dimensional screenshot (in the simplest case a cube) that is reflected in one layer of the reflective material.
mainly used reflection method in previous gens.

pros: not very taxing
cons: not a very accurate approximation of a reflection. cube maps have been very low res last gen, so you wouldn't necessary notice. they are becoming rather high res nowadays, what makes mismatching reflection directions very obvious.

2.) screen space reflection - imagine the reflective surface is a ingame tv with a integrated webcam that allways films the opposite angle you are watching it.

used in stuff like ingame mirrors. sometimes in fluid surfaces like puddles
pros:
-adequate simulation of directional reflections
cons:
- kinda taxing, because the game has to render more than just the players field of view but also the reflections "field of view"
- not really good on not flat surfaces, because with only one "virtual camera" you wont get the directionality right anymore. with a lot cameras it gets unbelivable taxing

3.) specular reflection - imitating the reflection of light rays of a surface with the option of incorporating the specific surface properties (as you see in PBS).

this is the closest approximation of how our sight in reality works
pros:
- perfect directional representation on any surface with any form
- reflective properties of a material can change with the viewing angle (in PBS)
cons:
- is only as good as the lighting system used in game
- the more elaborate the lighting system (extensive indirect lighting) the more taxing the reflection gets
-snip-

discalimer: i have no idea what im talking about. done a bit of CG in the late 90ies and have no knowledge on realtime graphics whatsoever.
Almost.

1. You got this right, nowadays games use convoluted versions which can be used for a proper BRDF.

2. What you describe here is most likely plane reflections.
Used for plane sufraces and rendered by placing camera other side of plane and rendering image, then use image as reflection on floor etc. (on ps2, games just rendered world upside down underneath transparent floor.)

Screen-Space Reflection works by raycasting on color and z-buffer from players view to get intersection point, usually this is used with combination with cubemaps in cases where proper intersection is impossible to find. (Seen on your Killzone pics.)

3. Specular reflection or specular component of lighting. (specular==reflection)
Usually used to describe reflection of a lightsource given by lighting model. (IE. Bling specular highlight.)

They promised a full 1080P race video directly captured from the PS4 in October...2013.

Have they released one yet that I am not aware of? I guess it's Sony's fault though, they're developing the game right.

I feel as if it's entirely intentional at this point. Like, they are straight-up trolling
us. We all know that they are aware of what goes on in this forum.

Soony/Evo are pricks lol

I'd like to believe there was a legitimate reason for the lack of trailers yesterday, maybe they were all brought down by food poisoning, internet access crapped out or they just plain forgot. (I don't know if that's a legitimate reason or just laughable if that is what happened)

Whatever the reason, I hope they at least release those trailers today...

In a vacuum it might seem like an overreaction but considering how soony has been communicating with the potential fanbase for driveclub,it's easy to see how YET ANOTHER DELAY of information is not being welcomed with open arms...

wasn't there ever only one delay? game missed its launch, got delayed, and once it was re-revealed we got a solid release date along with it.

I don't really give a toss about Sony PR.

You promise stuff then you best deliver it. Don't give dates and then backtrack with poor excuses. People have a right to be annoyed.

Next time just don't promise anything.

Yep. It's as easy as that. Don't promise stuff if you can't live up to it. Broken promises will always disappoint people. You should see the effect it has on kids when parents break their promise.

Don't.
