Plastic can be melted quite easily. It's the internals that are expensive.

I really don't like either color. Not that I have use for a dsi at this point anyway. But I prefer my portables to be a little more low key. I find bright colored game systems kind of tacky.

The fact that the new 3DS XL consoles are similarly coloured (Red and Blue) could well cause confusion.

Having a handheld on the market that's under $100 is a preeeetty big deal to a large segment of consumers. The proposition for them and their children isn't so much "if the DS line was killed, they'd buy a 3DS", it's "if the DS line was killed, they wouldn't buy anything."

Man, now I kind of want a 3DS in that green color. Green's my favorite color, but it's been snubbed for a good decade now (outside of cruel teases at pre-release E3s, like the green Wii or the green, orange, and eventually-released purple OG-3DSes); hasn't been proper green Nintendo hardware since the GBC/N64 era.

Here's hoping they get around to green XLs sooner than later...

I have an older DSi (black), but I've never noticed the bad viewing angles.

I love my DSi. I got it so late into the DS' life, but it's still my go-to for DS games that I want to replay (like Pokemon), since DS games look like poopy on my 3DS XL.

Welp...maybe I'll create a thread about the DSi models instead and see if anyone can pitch in.

As for the 3DS - I'm currently using a New 3DS XL, but it's just not that great for DS games.

It's great that they play natively, but the hardware itself isn't really designed for games played in "book mode", the colours are more muted for some reason and you're either stuck with games taking up a portion of the screen in native resolution or upscaling.

Sadly the Original DS had the best D-Pad, but the screens are so bad in comparison to all later models.

My model has good horizontal viewing angles but if I tilt the system vertically the colours quickly shift which isn't great.
