New Final Fantasy XV cam videos - Luminous Studio tools/tech + Open world exploration

Yes, but that was an extremely old video. Don't bother considering mech mounts a reality until it's seen within the current builds.

Inorigo is right though, if they kept Magitek then you can probably mount it and given the upcoming questions deals with different modes of transportation.

Golfham man. That part when Noctis and co. roll up on those sauropods gave me some Jurassic Park vibes. I can't believe I'm actually excited for a FF again

Haha yeah what happened? 3 months ago this game wasn't on my radar (despite being a huge final fantasy fan)...now I'm so hyped to buy a game just to play the XV demo.

Catoblepas's design is great. I hope we have lots of interesting monsters.

looking through this video and knowing that I can go anywhere on the world map, even those distant mountains is crazy cool.

Will this be 1080p 30fps or 60fps... going to be very interesting to see what they will do here.

1080p on PS4 will be an achievement by itself, let alone 60fps.
But 1080/rock solid 30, with some great IQ is already more than what i can desire.

it would be amazing to reach 1080p 30fps with this level of graphics I think. All the current videos suggest that it's nowhere near 1080p at the moment and you see some frame-rate deeps during combat. But I think it's still long way to go do hopefully they can reach 1080p/30fps for the final game.

Is there any chance of gamersyde getting this footage? Youtube vids look so bad even in comparison to the leak vids imo. :(

Holiday 15 in JP, Q1 16 for the west?

That is what I'm expecting. But I wouldn't mind if it came a little later as long as it meant we were getting a more polished game and we keep on getting updates like these. I'm treating this like a game that started proper development 2 years ago, rather than one that got me hyped up more than 8 years ago.

...I really don't like the effect Skyrim has had on game design. Open fields are not fun, never were. We got sick of running through them way back on Ocarina of Time.

Well I think the ideal design is to do a bit of both. Some open areas, and some more focused areas that are not completely linear. I mean Xenoblade worked because the areas were interesting artistically, but there is a fair amount of less interesting open space in parts of that game that could have been culled and redesigned into something a bit more intricate. I did appreciate the game have some smaller cave systems with branching paths to break up the bigger areas though.

doubt it bruh, Tabata showed the footage during is live show thingy and that quality is at least somewhat better than the cellphone cam footage. Next stop Jump Festa!

We're completely on the same page on this one...

yeah, cant help but love this. fantastic looking environments and creatures. something about massive non-aggressive beasts just roaming about is seriously cool to me.. i cant wait to just walk up to them and marvel at their size and animations.

also night is actually dark and scary? huge win IMO. too many devs wuss out when designing day/night cycles, making daytime and nighttime gameplay feel exactly the same (Destiny, Ass Creed etc).

hit a home run with this SE, please. just make it perfect, only release when its 100% done, no matter how much people whine to release it ASAP.. keep taking your time, you could have a masterpiece in your hands.

At TGS they said the graphics are something like 70-80% of the final quality. I'm assuming resolution & AA solutions might still be at least two of the bigger things they'll improve on, maybe draw-distance of objects and overall polish (getting rid of pop-up, making sure it runs smoothly etc.) as well. Otherwise I don't really think they have any need to improve anything else on the graphics deparment. All the character models look phenomenally good, texture-work is great, effects look swell etc. They should really just focus on making what they have now work as well as possible and look as good as possible IQ-wise.

I have no idea on the tech side of things, but based off what Tabata has said, the game has entered the stage of development where all the story, gameplay design, set-piece, voice-work scripting are (most likely) all finalised, and they're basically focused on mass-producing assets without concern because there's no way the design of the levels/cities/dungeons will change at this point.

Chances are that the engine from an asset standpoint is pretty much complete. And the finalisation of the engine from now till spring are probably more on the mechanics side of things. And game mechanics will probably be finished long before they finish building the final dungeon of the game.

(Disclaimer : unfounded guesswork, etc)

Depends if you subscribe to the train of thought regarding if Luminous is the visual aspect of it or a complete package. My personal interpretation - I'm leaning more toward Tabata commenting solely on how the game looks.

There's a lot of stuff unrelated to Episode Duscae which is done obviously.

it's a Catoblepas!

Pretty sure he's just talking about the game transferring over to Luminous?

Cheers.

Yeah have a feeling they're being clever about it now. It does seem like all the main ground work is set and crunch now.

No. If they keep the Magitek, it's not a guaranteed to be mountable. Keeping the model and animations is simple; making it a playable feature without bugs is not.

You don't think the west can dominate those sales? Also, wouldn't more consoles be bought due to this game? I doubt that in Japan, it will come out in low numbers. Wasn't there a poll that showed some Japanese were actually waiting to buy new consoles until specific games hit, which this one was one of them? I think it can happen.

Mainline FF sales on home consoles has shrunk in Japan over generations. Even if XV will be the best selling game on PS4 in Japan it will not come close enough to the highest the series had on PS1 and PS2. In that sense there a lot of sales lost that previously FF had so 10 million mark that even that even those older FF had hard time reaching will only be more difficult for XV. Also the series does not have such strong footing in the West like in the past.

That's true. We'll see, I guess. I'm not sure I have much reason to believe or assume it's out at the moment, but I'll agree on other enemy ground vehicles though like the tank from 2011. That's probably scrapped.

Let's at least hope the demo it's not a playable mess (IQ/framerate/bugs/glitches), or at least that's what i'm afraid of...

They have nearly 5 months left till the demo is out. Plenty of time to iron out what the can and they aren't going to leave it in such a state.

O_O!

Man, I knew Square said the game was going to be open but I didn't think it would be THAT open :D! Can't believe the world of the game is so beautiful with detail and yet their still is a lot to explore :'). The little touches with the animation are nice too (Noctis party members tiring out after running to long, the creatures attacking you if you get to close to them, ect).

Can't wait to see more of this....finally FFXV is going to come out :').

I love the use of Amano monster designs both modern and classic, really nice touch.

It looks freaking HUGE, ridiculously huge, and this is just one area, I can't wait to see more areas since it's been so focused on here and parts of one of the cities.

So much focus on small details, it's fantastic.

It looks like it's going to be a technical masterpiece, a real stand out technical masterpiece that will be a masterpiece for several years after.

Also, fishing, day one.

The walkthroughs they've shown so far seem to have ran pretty stable & smooth. I don't think the demo will have any bigger issues than pop-up, sub-1080p resolution + some aliasing and maybe the occasional framerate drop. Otherwise I'm hoping it's a pretty smooth experience.

Videos were of course completely forbidden, but with a French crowd there will always be someone to do it anyway. Not us though.

In one of the Versus XIII videos, didn't Noctis get into an enemy mech and use it?

I believe wild animal AI was already mentioned to be similar to that, i.e. they'll mind their own business unless you provoke them or get too close.

Yes, but that was an extremely old video. Don't bother considering mech mounts a reality until it's seen within the current builds.

Magitek was shown in the E3 2013 trailer and Tabata said that everything that was in the E3 trailer except Party Switching will be in the final game, not really a surprise to be honest.

What's the wording of what they might cover next?

I think they said nothing so far on what will be talked about next. Before we had Tabata's iPad videos to base on, but now we know nothing.

At least I think not, I don't know if they said anything on the last stream.

It might be either story, setting or towns if I had to guess, since those are still very obscure to us.

Loving everything so far! I can't wait to see how the actual field will look like when they implement npcs and monsters!

Man. The world size if anything it just making me even more apprehensive about the game. Even with monsters and a few NPCs, it still looks like the area will be more about scale than detail. I hope not all the areas are like that. I'd rather a small area with good attention to detail and a lot of stuff to do, than vast areas with just not a lot.

but but but...People LOVE classic JRPG World maps...Which didn't even look that good and barely had anything to do.

If they want to get across the journey theme, they need to give you some ground to cover, not make you feel like you're driving down the block.

Doesn't mean every inch of the map has to be filled with shiny things to distract you though.

Yah, Ni no Kuni made me realize how overated world maps are (imo).

OT: This game must have the best hair ever seen in a video game (not sure if I'm counting Tomb Raider).

If I had to guess, we might get another tech demo similar to the one just shown, and if they decide to show something else it will likely be something from Duscae again. Of all the regions it's the one they're polishing the most right now since there will be a demo very soon. The next video may be more mechanics driven as this one was exploration based. Maybe car stuff? Battling? Events? Probably stuff we're going to actually do in the demo.

Did I even say every inch?

It needs to be reasonably sized, but, it doesn't need to be so large that it kind of becomes a bit pointless. Scale for the sake of showing off how big the world is.

I dunno I accept some people like realistic scale, but I personally don't like it. It was a disappointment when CD Projekt Red said Witcher 3 was going that route, and it's disappointing Versus XIII is going heavily in that direction too.

What's the wording of what they might cover next?

Here are some questions that were to important to be answered here. These will all gradually be revealed as time goes on:
Show a city!
Show the world map!
Where is Col?
Who the hell is Luna!
More info on different ways of transportation!
Summoning info please!

Not very sure what world map there was referring to, maybe regions other than duscae?

The video we are about to show you has been made in order to give you an idea about the size of the map.

The enemies and the events are not implemented in the map.

Many exciting elements will be included in this area in the final version of the game.

This is the disclaimer of the world map video.
