I'll believe it when I see it. I hope they surprise me, but I have my reservations.
Rather be pleasantly surprised than immensely disappointed I suppose.

Yep. The Luna topic. They have been treating her as a new character and mentioned they do rephrase fan comments and questions. Not very sure what world map there was referring to, maybe regions other than duscae?

might as well be FFXV will sell the most units on the ps4 anyway and when it comes to Japan sales xb1 are going to be 0
Those clouds definitely look like volumetric particles and aren't painted skyboxes. You can see them disperse and how the shadows change as they pass the sun.

World looks pretty empty to me. I just see a vast grassland with a bunch of mobs in it MMO-style.

I really think, the Car and Roadtrip theme, could be the big Selling Factor of this Game
Especially in the west
They can market this game as something like GTA meets Skyrim
It sold me the game, i'm usually not interested in jrpg, it's now one of my most anticipated games of 2015.

Strong FF8 style world vibes,
Yeah.
The game has a very strong sense of realism with the animations, character design, the car, the gas stations and a striking sense of fantasy with the monsters and crazy off road landscape.
Its a really great balance ,and one that totally stands out as far games ,especially JRPGs, are concerned.
It really does look like the successor of FFVIII and that makes me stupidly excited.
The Behemoth and Leviathan designs also scream FFVIII to me.
How does this look to you by comparison ?
Eh, I think this is silly.Of course it seems empty:
1) They disabled encounters and events just to show the exploration.
2) It's a field in the middle of nowhere, what do you expect to find? You have a lot of empty space in games like Xenoblade, DQVIII, all the JRPGs world maps, Skyrim etc. etc.
Did I even say every inch?
It needs to be reasonably sized, but, it doesn't need to be so large that it kind of becomes a bit pointless. Scale for the sake of showing off how big the world is.
I dunno I accept some people like realistic scale, but I personally don't like it. It was a disappointment when CD Projekt Red said Witcher 3 was going that route, and it's disappointing Versus XIII is going heavily in that direction too.
so that area shown is basically the world map? will the caves and other areas be seperate areas or actually there?
i mean, would you walk into a cave from that map shown, or would it be like old school FF where it loads a new area? im trying to say, are the areas actually there?
Everything is connected. Nomura said a long time ago that they had the old school FF-style, but it looked too weird with the visuals that they had. There's actually an old screenshot of the worldmap on some storyboard from a Square magazine from years ago.
We don't know for sure.so that area shown is basically the world map? will the caves and other areas be seperate areas or actually there?

When i think about it, it's a good think (or a bad one) that we're so hyped for that game while basically none of the cast seems likable for now! You know what it's almost like FFXV is appreciated for now as a really old school FF. Nobody cares or have faith in characters nor story but it's all about the content, the dungeons..
Well... Opinions and all that, I like the main cast so far. Prompto will be a good comic relief if he isn't talking all the time, Ignis seems to be the smarter and more grounded member, and Gladio seems like the cool bodyguard. Those are characters that work really well around someone like Noctis.
Well I suppose if he isn't you're going to regret your usernameI seriously think Noctis has the potential to be one of the most liked FF characters, I really don't get this emo vibe from him.
Well, I think my issue with Skyrim goes far deeper than map size, but I feel like the map size was the core of it. They didn't have the resources to fully flesh it out, and so you ended up with this kind of generic world in design(in comparison to say Morrowind), full of the same looking caves, the same looking enemies and the same looking NPCs which say the exact same things to cut corners. Due to the repetition, it did feel hollow to me, even though you can argue it does have a lot of things in it. Either that happens, or the map is so large, that they just don't fill it at all and it does become pointless space that doesn't really add much(LA Noire for example).Sorry that's a pet peeve of mine.
Even games like skyrim throw shit at you every 2 steps, so afraid you'll get bored, when the effect that has on me, is that i completely lose any sense of immersion and get annoyed, by spinning in place 360 degrees, and seeing 5 allegedly super mysterious and sacred ancient caves, 40 bandits and 50 wolves.
Whatever is "reasonably sized" is sort of subjective.
Some people find Skyrim too big, i find it laughably small and cramped, to the point where when you travel from one city to another, it's supposed to be this epic journey, but feels like going to the kitchen and back.
i like the idea of an expansive map, even if a bit "empty", to convey the sense of journey, as long as it is well paced with then more meaningful stuff.
i don't want 2 hours of driving and absolutely nothing else, either.
We don't know for sure.
Some think everything is seamless, some think there will be transitions into the bigger towns (like Skyrim), but they haven't said anything so far.
From the trailers I'd guess that at least entering dungeons seems seamless.
The recent FFXV trailer feels like a road movie kind of story development different than what weve seen before. How is it in actuality?
Tabata: I wanted to offer a personal experience in FFXV, but it has naturally become a road movie kind of experience. Its a game where you go on an journey riding in a car through an extensive, seamless world. There are realistic scenes spread out, but the terrain takes a strange form and you can see a burning meteorite (astral fragment), which make it a FF-esque world.
I think youll have a lot of fun just looking at the scenery and running around. One characteristic is you can manually operate the car the party rides in or sit back and listen to Noctis and his companions chat while its driven automatically.
Their conversations arent merely simple chats, but are becoming the catalyst for the games developments.
By the way, you can also walk, but I think youll have trouble if you try only walking around because the world is so vast. (Laughs) When you are separated from the car you can also summon it on the spot, so it might be a good challenge to try out once.
The system changes a lot with each title in the FF series. What kind of game is FFXV? Roughly explaining, what will happen?
Tabata: My FFXV proposal was to write an open world style Final Fantasy. The word style is an important point. The world is spread out seamlessly, but it is unlike a typical open world RPG, its not the kind of game where no matter where you go, you progress. As this is a FF series title, youll be able to do things like level up your character and collect items while stepping into various regions in line with the story. The story has a flow where youll experience drama along the way and then finally reach a climax.
The region they've showed so far is the Duscae region. That region is about 10% of the game. What they showed will be in the demo. The demo won't let you explore everything in Duscae.Have they hinted how big the world is?
Are there oceans and travelling to different islands? I really want a "world" map like traditional FF games have had. But it's understandable if they can't reach that scale
Yeah they are sidekicks. Remember when FF had strong characters with independent goals and storyline. I mean they seem to be there to ckick ass, not tell their life. But what i mean is, why not after all. I prefer that than a bad script. There won't be a FFVI ever again anyway.
The entire world is seamless according to Tabata
Have they hinted how big the world is?

Even though its a single player game, we want you to feel like you are actually going across the continent with your companions in the car, Tabata told Kotaku. Its as if theyre real people traveling with you.
Well I suppose if he isn't you're going to regret your username![]()
It still won't be the entire world though, unless that world is tiny. old FFs managed that because you basically became the size of Godzilla when you left the city.
.
Neither really make sense, obviously you're massive, but the physical areas are wrong too. The entrance to the Ifrit cave in 8 is colossal on the map, the opening is like half the size of the Balamb, in reality it's the size of like two people side to side.I always imagined that the locations were just tiny.. but thinking about it, being a a godzilla size makes much more sense. the world map is actually the WORLD instead of each location just being tiny.
Nobody cares or have faith in characters nor story but it's all about the content, the dungeons..

When you think about it, not letting the player explore the whole world leaves more room for sequels, which we know is happening.
It all comes to the design of the world, really. "Emptiness" is just fine if you can kind of tell what areas won't have anything too meaningful and you can be quite certain that you can just enjoy the view and drive past them, but still have the occasional neat detail/treasure chest/fun enemy to fight against that rewards the people who do go there exploring, and then having some more special places with visual cues that hint "hey, maybe you should come here and explore, it's gonna be worth it" (i.e. that looks like some kind of remainders of a shrine in the distance -> you go there, turns out its some ancient shrine where people used to worship something... -> Ramuh appears -> epic fight against him ensues). From the demo area, I'd guess you can probably skip the large area with the pond in the middle unless you want to enjoy goofing around with the buffalos, try fighting them, try fishing in the pond or just enjoy the vistas, whereas I'd definitely want to explore the area near the astral shard a little more carefully, if possible.Did I even say every inch?

Technically, yes, but I'd assume the caves' entrances will be too narrow to get the car into one or the caves are located in such places where you can't really get to with a car or the caves themselves are too cramped to get too far into them with a car.cool, so it's all connected, you could technically drive the car into caves.. (unless they automatically get out or something)
considering the car seems to be making it's appearence alot, i hope they neaten it up. it looks a bit weird sometimes without reflections on the back.
Probably just about showing a detailed world map with possibly some names and somewhat confirming the scale of the game. Not very sure what world map there was referring to, maybe regions other than duscae?
I expect party member switching will happen in the sequels too.
I certainly hope so, that and Stella/Luna as the lead.

Didnt Tabata said he wants to complete the story with this one single Game, instead of doing several sequels (like nomura planned previously) ?
