New God of War 2 Screens

10 hours is short?

10 hours with little replay value is definitely short compare to other games in this genre (do I even need to give examples) are averaging 15-20 hours plus 50-100 hours replayability value

Typical American game that shows their obsession with war! But at least it has no guns, eh, Damien?

yeah at least it has no guns, but GOW still is a mediocre game compare to its peers from Japan, like DMC or NG maybe :lol

Wow, other hack-and-slash brawlers have 50-100 hours of replay value? Care to name some, because that sounds great.

Most people who considered the game too damn short are those who beat it in the 6 to 8 hour range. But I can see it taking up to 10...I guess.

Also, what the hell is up with those screens. It looks 3:3 or something, not 4:3...I don't know, but they look like squares or something. Does that website just size them all kinds of fucked up or something or am I drunk on diet coke?

This is a guess here, but I'm guessing Damien is referring NOT to "hack-and-slash brawlers" but more combo / tactical / difficult oriented games, let's say Devil May Cry 3 SE and / or Ninja Gaiden Black which have numerous bosses, carry over RPG stats, and mulitple play-forms etc.

But from all the hack-n-slashers out there (Genji, Onimusha, DW games) GoW certainly has the most replay value.

Man this game looks effin' HAWT. PS2 ftw.

drinky is not jackfrost jesus you guys are gullible

Naww...it doesn't have more replay than Onimusha. Oni 1 maybe, but 2, 3, and Dawn of Dreams kill it in the replay department.

GoW games look really good. PS2 is kicking ass late in its lifetime. Makes me think...what will PS3 games look like at the end of its lifetime...

yeah, but why would you want to replay any of the Onimusha games besides 1?

He's slamming the Revolution by saying this PS2 game looks like something you'd see on it

Sorry for killing the joke by spelling it out, but there you go

how the hell can you judge replay value anyway? If you like the game, you want to replay it. Do you have to count a bunch of inflated bullshit like unlockign worthless costumes?

Please make it longer or have better replayability than the original. I hate when games are like condoms, they let you have fun for a little while but you can't reuse them and just have to throw them away.

What if they included an online-play mode and revealed it at E3? What would you say about replayability then?

It's realtime.
Wrong, these shots are pooped out of the dev kits at mega-high resolution. They may be in-game assets, but sure as hell isn't real-time in this resolution. Notice the total absense of any form of jaggies (not to mention the aspect ratio's and picture sizes, dead giveaway)? :)

Still looks great for a Playstation 2 game and I'm sure it's fun to play.

You mean like every other official game screenshot ever released?

Maybe I should have said, God of War 1. I mean, since 2 hasn't come out, one wouldn't know how much replayability it has...

I'd think GoW2's replay value will be helped by them taking some things from DMC3's combat engine. You'll be able to switch weapons and magic on the fly now

My favorite picture is the one with the woods in the background.
Looks awesome. Im so playing this in hd on my PS3.

You could switch weapons on the fly in the original.

This is def. realtime, because it looks like you can see the polygon edges of the horses from different angles.....if you look carefully, you can see a small castle-like platform at the base of each horse's neck...actually, it looks like a castle in each horse's saddle

godwar2_23808.jpg

In this shot you are actually fighing on those platforms on the saddle of the horse....see his ears in the background?

And again, here you can see the side of the horse's neck in the background!!!

You could switch magic attacks in realtime but not the weapons.

Maybe our definitions of "on the fly" are different. In God of War, to get the Artemis blade, you just had to hit L1 and R1 at the same time.

My guess is that those giant horses are real time.

You may be fooled into thinking they are pre-rendered, because of the way the artists have worked on the game (they model it, and bake on the appropriate lighting as textures AFAIK), and so it looks much like it's CG original model in the end. That's what I gather from the making of documentary that was in the first game. I think it's awesome and resulted in some awesome graphics, so that's why I think they're real time.

This is what I meant

Gameplay:
- Some nods to DMC3 combat: single button weapon switch mid-combo now and magic attacks designed to be usable "on the go" and mid-combo as well
- 3 tiers for new types of magic attacks - eg. wind magic tier 1 is "wind harpoons", tier 2 is a "formidable whirlwind", tier 3 is an "enormous tornado". Ice magic is mentioned as well

what the fuck game has 50 - 100 hours replayability outside of fighters and shooters or multiplayer games what the hell kind of crack are you smoking

I completely forgot about that, my mistake.

no one gives a shit about mid-combo weapon switches. It's pointless.

Mid combo switches is what made DMC3's combo so great. It allows you to be alot more creative when fighting and do some amazing combo strings.

that's what separate GOW uninspired and dull battle system with DMC3 fuck awesome battle system.

oh no - the targeting system in DMC is shit and the camera is one of the worst things ever seen in a game.

this should be a ps3 launch title... the first one was so dependant on being visually awesome, that it just feels like they should only make GOW games for the best sony hardware available. It looks great obviously, but imagine what the team could do with a ps3 game.

You're even willing to derail PS2 threads with this now? That's dedication.

Anyway, on topic, this looks white hot. I really do need to finish the original GoW. Such a good game, I'm not sure what made me put it down. Might have been to replay RE4 several times over. Either way, I know what I'm doing on my day off tomorrow.

EDIT -

Haha, Jaffe did say he had a night out with the ICO team.

Just watched the clip on the 1st link.. how the FUCK is the ps2 producing those graphics, effects, and animation?

what is scary is how a game would look around the end of the ps3 life.

this is has to do with sony hardware. by time, developers know the console more and more they produce amazing visuals.

ofcourse Xbox 360 or any other console is the same. but not to the same degree as Sony consoles mainly because the other consoles are way easier to make games for.

while GOW 2 will be amazing. dont even dare to compare it to shadow of the colossus.

SoTC for LIFE >_<

i still from time to time play against some colossus for the fun of it. amazing game

can't wait to play this on PS3

Basically. Its another reason, I am happy number two is coming out for PS2. Give david and crew enough time for 3, and it should incredible.

No launch FTW!

I enjoyed the first game but I had three big problems with it:

1 - camera control, and the way that it was almost never in the right position
2 - v-sync and tearing problems
3 - inconsistent and usually unfair checkpoint positions

If they had spent a bit more time fixing those design issues then it could have been so much better. I still don't know how people could say it was better than DMC3 though...
