New God of War 3 Screens

I don't know about Achilles, but Hercules seems like a good bet.

In the Famitsu scans that were leaked last weak, there was a guy with a lion mask, the Cestus gauntlets, and claw-mark scars on his chest. It's gotta be Hercules.

It would be really great if you can fight both Hercules and Achilles and finally determine who's the best Greek warrior.

They could really make an interesting Achilles boss fight. Achilles would be invnicible and your only chance at hurting him is attacking his heels somehow.

Hercules is the name the Romans use. In Greek mythology he's named Heracles.

And yeah, I'd like to see him in GOWIII.

I'd feel that would be a bit contrived if Kratos magically knew about his heel

But a three-way Achilles, Hercules and Kratos fight :o That would own

This is something I haven't really seen people take on, but I'd love to see that if Achilles and Hercules really go for each other as much as they do Kratos. Any time I've seen 'warring' people in a game, it's been some contrived rubbish, and they really don't treat each other like they treat you. Even in things like Motorstorm everyone will try and smash you up, and leave everyone else, it's bullshit.

Achilles would be swift and pretty much deflect every weak attack you throw or dodge the heavy ones, while you're pretty much needing to dodge everything Hercules throws at you (and I expect he'd literally be throwing big things at you)... It could make an interesting dynamic if your best bet is to really attack when they go for eachother...

The Perseus fight was one of my favourites in the series, I'd just like it a little harder

Going into classics major mode: Actually, this is a relatively insignificant myth that almost never factors into stories of Achilles. Achilles is the son that the Fates decreed would overthrow Zeus; however, Zeus found out and passed Thetis off to another man. He's the son Zeus should have had. That makes him a damn near perfect boss to fight Kratos
the son Zeus ACTUALLY had.
Essentially Achilles was just so badass he was basically immortal. The heel myth is just an offshoot that presents his immortality in a physical way that didn't come about until the first century AD.

Thanks for the historical knowledge :)

Yeah i love the fact that they gave him his invisibility from the myths. the fight reminded me of the cyborg ninja fight in metal gear solid because of the cloaking factor.

Yeah let's not release anymore footage to market the game, I'm not sure even Sony would be that fucking stupid.

I understand his sentiment, as I lack the willpower to stay away from new media of games I'm interested in, even though dong so would probably make my experience better once I play the game.

Maybe I sucked hard, but I'm sure GoW2 took longer than 10 hours for me.

10 hours is a nice length for a good action single player campaign I think.

Agreed.

GoW II took me around 12 hours the first time.

I just hope they nail the pacing, a longer game is harder to pace.

GoW II stil is the best paced SP campaign I've ever played IMO.

It was certainly an amazing experience, not sure if it's quite that good, but I haven't played it in quite a while, only have about an hour left of GoW on the Collection, so I guess I'll find out soon enough.

yeah especially if it lends itself to speedruns(unlike sigma, ugh load times/rachel missions)

It's well paced, but it's no Resident Evil 4 in that regard.

Not a bad word about RE4, but I find GoW II to be better paced. It's the only game I ever finished in one sitting.

(Partially because RE 4 has a longer campaign)

I have been playing an hour or two a night of GOW 2 on Titan mode, and I am on my second week of doing so at least. I probably have another 3-4 nights before I beat it (again)

If there is a Titan mode in GoWIII, then i hope the developers actually playtest and balance it this time around. I believe SM has gone on record admitting that Titan Mode in GowII wasn't even playtested, they just crunched some numbers in and bam.

I wonder how long Titan mode will take (if it's even called that)

Usually it's whatever force is giving you aid at the time. So, this time they should just call it Kratos Mode.

I personally figured it was just a big "fuck you" to all the people claiming that GoW was a pussified action game. They just made it obscenely difficult.

That explains protecting the translator... I couldn't get passed that point, I don't think many people have.

I always play God of War on Hard mode but the jump from Hard to Very Hard was insane. I didn't even try to attempt GoW on Very Hard (i played II before I)...i'm pretty sure i would have never made it beyond the room with the Cerebus puppies in Poseidon's Challenge.

I beat both God Mode (GoWI) and Titan Mode (GoWII). God Mode is nothing compared to Titan Mode. If GoWII tainted your perspective on Very Hard modes in GoW, it shouldn't have. That wasn't the norm.

Thanks for the heads up. I defintely try God Mode come spring break for sure.

Stratch that: I forgot GoWIII comes out during Spring Break...silly me.

OFF TOPIC I know

Opinions really.... I never did RE4 completely because it was too long IMO (and some parts felt like fillers to me... in fact, the pacing was the main problem for me along with the controls).

Personally, I think God of War 2 had pretty much the best possible pacing a game could have and only Uncharted 2 has been "on par" with that ever since.

They playtested it. They had to show people from Sony that it could be beaten. Cory Barlog's blog talked about it.

God of War II had too many bosses. Sounds weird, but it did.

There is no such thing!

Seriously though, I liked the variety in the bosses. Small bosses like Perseus were a nice diversion from mammoths like the Colussus.

I really like RE4 but I'm sure that I would love it more and would have replayed it several time if it was shorter. I haven't played it on hard mode for this very reason.

It's not that there were too many, it's that most weren't that memorable. All three boss fights of GOW1 are fucking epic. Most of the fights in GOW2 were you against another human-sized opponent.

I'm expecting GOW3 to rectify this will their emphasis on scale. :P

Speaking of God of War bosses, i really don't get why they get so much attention. I think the bosses in the series are the worst parts of the game (save Theasus (sp?) in GoWII--the way you killed him was badass).

My reasoning is that a good deal of the bosses--hydra, kraken, minotaur to be exact--never quite fight the way they should. A hydra should snatch you up, destroy the platforms, etc. The Kraken was a bigass octopus and that shit never even pursued you. And the minotaur...a monster of that size would definitely not come at you the way it did in God of War. I think the developers share my sentiment though as the problem seems to be remedied in God Of War III.

I can elaborate more if anyone wants.

I did not like the Perseus fight. It felt like something from some other game. I want to fight big bad mythical monstercreatures, and straight up Gods. Not some clown with an invisibility trick.

The hydra may not have been much of a fight, but oh boy was it a sexy spectacle. Mean, ugly and loud, that shit was something else. I thought the minotaur and the colossus of Rhodes were quite good too, but generally, I prefer the battles with advanced and/or brutal creatures like Cyclops, Cerberus, wraiths and the damned satyrs.

See it this way. These badass boss creatures probably aren't used to anyone putting up a fight, so their technique should realistically be somewhat lacking.

Some developer needs to hire me as damage control general, I'm damned good at it.
